+Mateo Gonzalez Not proper to use the term "patriarchy" but to say they know that worldwide oppression solely on women and many other claims they make are false is more proper. To list out line after line of the most cliche shit they throw at everyone. "Pay wage gap" and their actual drive and goal - to have women get paid more simply because they're women regardless of job. Say for example a woman who works at Popeyes will make more than a Nuclear Physicist or neuro-surgeon would.

Eh, I would have left out Egoraptor. His thoughts on Zelda (or games in general) are as about as brainless as Kotaku's.
@DocSwood
@DocSwood 9 жыл бұрын
ehh, i wouldn't be that harsh at least he made his opinion by actually playing the game, not like Kotaku who sees a female and freaks out even though his Ocarina of Time views are a bit to ... not wrong, but he forgets that, the way he judges it, by modern 3d standards are (partially) only there, because OoT did them, was it perfect no, but it was groundbreaking in its own and that makes it special but i have to agree with him, the 2d's are my favs too it's the same with his others, i think he was spot on with Mega Man X, but i also disagree with his Super Castlevania views in addition, the fact that he put effort in, already means he's got more brain than Kotaku, noone has less, well maybe Vox ;)

CrazyP There's no problem with liking the 2D Zeldas. I mean, A Link Between Worlds is my favorite Zelda title in years. The problem is that Egoraptor's Zelda video in particular came across (at least to me) as an obnoxious attempt to be as much of an in-your-face 80s/early-90s kid as possible. He does bring up legitimate issues with the 3D Zeldas, but in terms of the actual substance of his review, it was full of tons of cherry-picked bullshit, moments of embarrassingly incorrect research/information, and blatant contradictions of previous statements he's made about general game design as well as current statements made about Zelda. Basically, Ego has an obvious bias for the 2D Zelda titles, and as a result his video is not even close to being a fair evaluation of 2D/3D Zelda titles.

Uh, let's see. 'WTF is' by Totalbiscuit's ok for honest first impressions from another perspective (seriously, he outright stated that he didn't enjoy Dragon Age: Inquisition that much even after around 56 hours of gameplay). Angry Reviews by AngryJoeShow are really great (my personal favourite), although they tend to be very thorough, thus take a lot of time and often skip over some major releases). You should check them out.

I was, I believe 8 or so when I got a Super Nintendo, already owned a NES and a GB, only thing we really had 20 years ago to give us an idea if we wanted a game or not was nintendo power magazines, that or looking at the boxes at toy shops. The only other option was yep, asking people, or trading/borrowing. 30 years old, I still bring all of them out to use.

Rex Warden We have youtube now, checking out a game is easy peasy. Other then that we have companies we end up trusting.
@DecoyBlackMage
@DecoyBlackMage 9 жыл бұрын
Rex Warden Erm I cannot really agree fully with this, sure there are examples of people who have had their negative reviews taken down, but generally that creates bigger negative reviews towards a product so it does not happen that often, and youtube is just one site, we have blip and others as well to look at. Also a lot of video producers put a lot of effort into their videos, and if they earn money from their work, then I do not see the issue. And no one is pro at a game they just start playing, no one, ever, and many lets players start from zero on a game, and generally are pretty good later on. As for the people who act a bit with their videos, they clearly have a fan base that enjoys it, so let them do what they want.

You know what, I agree. Skyward sword was an experience that is over. Since you would know the story, then you would look forward to the exploration the next playthrough, however it is very linear so it is hard to enjoy it more than the first run through. Also I do agree that because the game was linear, It is not the very best Zelda game. I do disagree with you about motion plus. I really thought it added a little more complexity to battles by striking them in the right spot as well as timing it right. This is fucking awful. Why don't you let Jeff Gerstmann speak for himself on the state of video games journalism, what need was there to imitate him? Also Gamespot gave Skyward Sword just an above average review, why do you assume there was pressure from Nintendo, wouldn't their score actually fit the average the game got? Is it honestly not possible that over awarding average games before given a period of longer reflection is not a natural reaction by reviewers and fans alike. Jeff has said the most ire he has received from his reviews were for Twilight Princess and Super Mario Sunshine, giving them an 8.8 and 8.0 respectively, When fans and management expected him to praise those average games at the same level as the rest of the media. If you had done your research, you would know Gamespot is under CBS Interactive, who have their own CEO, and you would know their last editor in chief (Justin Clavert) was let go recently, and that media sites can function perfectly fine without having a single editor in chief. by having different editors handling review and video content for example.

A.) If you're going to impersonate someone, do a better job. B.) Things clearly *have* changed at GameSpot/CBSi, or else Ryan and crew would never have returned. C.) "I gave a game a bad review, it was a really popular game, I got fired over it". Are you joking? It was over ad dollars and insubordination, not because Kane and Lynch 2 was a popular game. D.) MW:AW was Jeff's game of the year. So you're saying he's on the take now too? Why are you even pretending to be Jeff speaking for GameSpot anyways? Can't get your Irish accent up to snuff? E.) Where the fuck does it say Jeff is editor in chief for GameSpot? Really? F.) Speak to your audience like they're adults. Your whiney, snarky tone doesn't do this video any fucking good.

SlyBiffrons Yeah, I respect his opinion that he didn't like SS, but my problem with that video is that he gave no credible reasons as to why. Just complained about some things about the game that seem dumb but were nitpicks. And the thing about the wiimote is completely 100% subjective as I and several of my friends had no problems with it. I don't have a problem with his opinion. More the manner in how it was explained and then people taking it as fact when its just an opinion. They're many reasons SS is my joint second favorite Zelda along with WW after TP but I won't go over them. I respect Egoraptor more than I originally did after that video since hes come out and tweeted about how he wasn't that pleased with it. But I think its apparent though that a majority of "zelda fans" (if you can even call half of them that?) like the game. I can't say about the review scores as I don't know what influence they were given but it seems unlikely Nintendo would be the sort of company to pay for reviews as they don't have many advertisements up as much as other major games to be honest (CoD AW a 9.1/10 by IGN? Cmon). I don't use point systems when reviewing a game but if I had to give SS a score, it would probably be a 9. Its not a 10 but its still a great game imo.
@BifronsCandle
@BifronsCandle 9 жыл бұрын
***** It's not so much that Nintendo pays reviewers for higher scores, it's just that SS also is helped by the Zelda name and style itself. Which is a fair point but doesn't necessarily detract from the game's quality. Subjectivity is the key word here. Arin was around to play the original Zelda at its release when people were sharing notes and to him that was the best one. To me, it's pretty dated. I've met a few people who loved SS sword by virtue of the fact that it was the first Zelda they've played. Same thing for Twilight Princess or, an outside example, Final Fantasy 7.

SlyBiffrons True, nostalgia is a VERY strong emotional force. Heck its one thats allowed me to still find enjoyment out of SW Episode 1 and 2 despite me knowing that they're very floored movies. Its the same for many people. But I don't think it makes an opinion wrong or deluded. I think opinions are much more relevant especially for new IPs as they usually have no nostalgia relation unless they are heavily influenced by other games. And yeah, to me Zelda 1's design and progression maybe what we see in games like Bloodborne or Dark Souls now, but I don't think that makes it any better than newer Zeldas, just different. Series evolve and change. FF went from a turn based simple JRPG in FF1 to a fast paced action JRPG in a giant 3D openworld FFXV (which was brilliant from the demo I played). RE went from a clunky controlled rather confined survival horror game with chilling atmosphere, to a action heavy co-op third person shooter that takes place around the globe. Zelda has gone through changes too and its totally subjective whether thats a good or bad thing. And my first 2D Zelda (and Zelda in general) I beat was LA, yet I think MC and ALBW are better, and my first 3D Zelda I beat was OoT and although I will always love it, WW, SS and TP were all superior games to me. MM I need to replay as I had a sour experience with it first time round and I heard the 3DS version fixed a lot of problems I had with the game as a game I could enjoy. I think whatever game you play at whatever time doesn't make your opinion any more valid or true. If you're a Zelda fan since day one, or just picked up Hyrule Warriors as your first Zelda experience, its all subjective on how you view the series. Unless Nintendo puts some law book out saying whats good and whats not in Zelda, theres no right or wrong to be honest.

This is completely ridiculous. Also as someone who hasn't played a call of duty game for a good long while, when I played advanced warfare it was a great well put together game that felt like a nice change of pace from previous titles, sledge hammer did a fantastic job. Also video game reviews reflect the opinion of the reviewer and nothing else. This is why games like The Evil within got mixed reviews all over the place. Also why people flipped out when Destructoid gave shadow of morodor a 6 and when polygon gave the last of us a 7.5. The people who reviewed those games simple did not enjoy them as much as others. I'm a huge zelda fan, skyward sword is not perfect and the criticism is completely warranted but guess what, I love skyward sword and I'll never forget staying up all night to play it. People need to understand that every single reviewer as well as every single person reading a review has different tastes in video games and are going to experience things differently. Also Jeff Gertsman founded GiantBomb on this entire notion. Everyone on that site has completely different views and opinions on various games and they have open discussions about it. Brad loves destiny while jeff despises it and they both have articulate reasons as to why. Reviewers give the game whatever the hell they want, paid reviews are a thing of the past dude. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zobdc5uqpr6ihbc here are three completely different people from gamespot, discussing their own different opinions on zelda. For me personally, if a game I am interested in is coming out, I am going to buy it and play it regardless of review scores, if i don't like it then I don't like it, the end.

Usually I agree with videos like this but Gamespot is one of the harshest and most critical web sites out there, Unlike sites like escapist where it rains 10's while the background of the review is covered with ads for the game getting 10's, GameSpot rarely gives out a 10, maybe twice a year. It's actually impressive how often they destroy hyped games in their reviews.

I thought Skyward Sword was honestly really good though. The rest of this though I agree with pretty much, I despise how game review sites pull stuff like this. I honestly find myself not even using game review sites anymore, and pretty much just doing my own research on the game. I find that usually works out for myself personally. Thank you for truthfully going into a topic like this, it's always long bothered me how review sites, businesses, ETC, can just be bought off and won't give honest input on the product they're discussing.

+Eduardo Ferreira Does it deserve a perfect score? No. But I'd consider it somewhere above a 9. The real reason Skyward Sword got a perfect score had nothing to do with ad revenue and more to do with Miyamoto publicly betting his career on the line. The review on Gamespot about Skyward Sword on the other hand was poorly reviewed thanks to the reviewer's incompetence with the controls. Regardless of the score, it was otherwise a pretty good review.

I'm not sure if this individual knows anything about what he's saying, it really only takes a few minutes of active research to disprove everything he says in this video. I can't help but think his opinion just comes from willful ignorance. It's irresponsible that he's putting this out there as factual. Using a games review score as evidence supporting your case is just idiotic, and thats being forgiving honestly. If you want to draw connections between the ethics of game journalism and money you should present your argument with more salient points. Beyond the obvious fact that you yourself have never actually been involved in gaming publication, what else have you presented in this video that should give me cause to believe anything you've said? Fundamentally I dont agree with it because its never been proven to happen in american games journalism (Famitsu is a different case and a different culture) beyond a few outliers which don't represent the whole in anyway. It would be like saying, "Well this game is bad so all games must also be bad!" its just shallow. So your drawing connections where there are none. Whats somewhat ironic about this whole thing is that your venue of choice, youtube, has very actively seen this happen. KZbinrs are considered hobbyists and thus have no legal obligation to disclose if they have in fact taken money or commodity to cover games, which in many cases they do. So the problem is not with games journalists, its fundamentally with the companies creating games and those who would give succor to them. This video comes off as pandering at best. Im more than open to discussion though, so if anyone is willing to provide evidence and an actual argument for me I'd be very interested in hearing it. Also slandering another persons character especially Jeff Gerstmann's is pathetic. yours is the lowest form of arguing. It's doubly funny considering he is arguably the most respectable games pundit out there, not only for his transparency into his line of work, but also for his integrity for the exact Kane & Lynch review you cite.
