I like how they're constantly noticing how easy it would be for all these guns to get dirty, causing jams and such. That's actually an in-game mechanic: the more you use a weapon, the dirtier it gets, causing it to jam and overheat more often. When you get back to a safe camp area, you can clean the weapon to get rid of that problem, at least until you gunk it up again, so the devs were very aware of that. The larger magazines in fact were often more prone to jams, because of that problem, while the smaller ones tended to be more reliable because they were actual military style magazines, as opposed to, say, a metal tin that was "roughly" the right size for bullets that someone put a spring in and prayed that it worked. Also, about the air gun, yes the weapon damage is dependent on the air pressure. If the air pressure is in the yellow you're going to be doing crap damage, while if you pump it into the green you're going to be doing enough damage to reliably kill as long as you're getting head shots with it. You can over-pump it into the red to boost the damage, but the seals aren't quite good enough, so it'll slowly leak air pressure until it goes back into the green, so you only do that right before you're ready to fire on your targets. And you were correct again, it's used as a budget weapon, or a stealth weapon. It's very quite do to no igniting ammo or anything, and the ammo is much cheaper to get (you just need a minimal amount of scrap metal to make the ammo, while normal bullets require a little more scrap + chemicals to make the powder, if I recall). I mostly used it as a stealth close/medium range sniper rifle type thing, or if you were running low on ammo on low threat enemies, so you could save your real ammo for dangerous situations.
@lttarzanman64522 жыл бұрын
Actually, they're taking about the guns getting dirty from debris rather than just fowling from use. Carbon buildup from usage would stop a gun, but not that quickly. For example, I own an AK I've never cleaned once, but it's never jammed on me. I don't often go crawling though mud pits with it, though. If mud ever gets into the trigger or the lockup, I'm certain it'll stop. The jamming mechanic should happen when you get into mud or something, not just after use.
@kedolan49922 жыл бұрын
@@lttarzanman6452 I agree, it's not perfectly realistic, but it's hard to actually simulate that level of "how dirty, exactly, is the nuclear apocalypse, and how quickly would home-made guns jam in it?" Considering most of the guns in Metro are either literally homemade, or guns that survived an actual nuclear apocalypse, with no replacement parts or even cleaning supplies being made, I think it works as a mechanic. Also keep in mind you're firing normal, good ammunition, while the ammo they're using in the Metro games are homemade, and not the kind of homemade we can currently do. After all, with no industry left since everything above ground was gone, who's even making the gunpowder? It's probably dirty as hell, compared to modern ammo.

But also it's really hard to pull actually, the cocking lever in the stock makes it much easier, but I still usually sort of brace it against my knee. When kids from the family want to shoot it I always tell them "Only if you can load it." And it usually filters out the ones too young to use it even with me watching over. I also made myself a makeshift foregrip because it's just really top heavy, and if you hold it just as it is in the front you're risking getting your fingers struck by the string which shouldn't kill you, but I can tell you it hurts like a bitch. I loved the "You can take a buffalo with an Air rifle, but that's about it." As if the buffalo is easier to kill than a human.
@kedolan49923 жыл бұрын
I think he was going more for the "A" buffalo part. As in, you're good for 1-2 shots, but after that you're going to be out of compressed air/the pressure would be too low. At least that's what I think he was getting at, since he mentioned you'd need a big ass tank of compressed gas.
@ralcogaming76742 жыл бұрын
@@kedolan4992 tichar defeats that criticism with a manual air pump though, the tichar functions similarly to old pump up bb guns where you compress the air rather than using a removable tank. And there's also leakage issues with the base model that have to be fixed with upgrades so you can retain air pressure.

If you like M.E.T.R.O., you might also dig S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1:22 Of course, gotta have the snapping shut of the revolver's cylinder. So Hollywood. 7:04 The cross-thumb technique is only useful with single-action revolvers or while firing double-actions with exposed hammers single-action style. 11:40 AK-74. 5.45 is the standard caliber in the world of M.E.T.R.O. 13:54 The Vz.58 has that. It also comes in two different calibers IRL, so a 5.45 version wouldn't be farfetched at all. 14:09 In M.E.T.R.O. 2033, it was an AK-74M. 14:56 Snorks in a game other than S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?! 15:19 The trend in games (more like a trope) is to have all reload animations based on emergency reloads. Of course, no one seems to understand that they're called "emergency" reloads for a reason. 16:23 The German word for that is "vierling." A triple-barrel one would be a "drilling." The more common types are combination guns, but since they're custom made, they could also be all shotgun barrels or all rifle barrels. 17:51 Yes. In the early 1900s, there were big-bore air guns that could be used to take big game. In the world of M.E.T.R.O., they use 15mm ball bearings which are comparable in size to 20-gauge slugs (15.6mm). 21:38 I have one of those. They're not meant to be used as weapons. They're just for recreational target shooting. The crossbow from Resident Evil 2 was based on one of those. It doesn't look right, though, because it looks like a standard-size crossbow, so the charging handle looks like it should be acting as stock. Of course, the problem with that is that it's not meant to be used that way.

Fun fact: the metro revolver is based on the Nagant Revolver. The difference is it’s chambered in .44 mag instead of .357 this is this way because they need the stopping power to kill the mutants. The Tikhar rifle is a full auto airgun that requires you to pump it in order to make it do lethal damage. Also fun fact: The main character of the metro games is part of the Spartan Order. They’re literally the remnants of Spetsnaz, and Russian Airborne. They’re a Small faction that kicks ass and takes whatever they need.

For the air gun (Tikhar is its name), the pump action to add air back in is used for the velocity of the beads that are fired. Thus, adding range that is lost over time and the speed in which said projectiles hit something. Also adding that this thing is church mouse quiet. Even with your suppressed firearms, the air gun makes almost no noise. I have this game and its two remastered prequels on XBOX One and can attest. Anyone else that's played this game, regardless of platform, can also attest.

Fun fact about revolvers and the gap between Barrel and cylinder, Which is also the reason you don't see all too many suppressed revolvers.. Nagant m1895, though it had a real stiff trigger.. However, that's because prior to firing the cylinder presses up against the barrel really hard forming a tight enough seal to allow it to be surpressed effectively.

Iirc the Metro revolver was based off the M1895 Nagant revolver, which had a self sealing breech. This was caused by the timing gears actuating the cylinder forwards onto a barrel lug whenever the cylinder bore lined up, and closed off the cylinder gap completely each time the revolver was fired. It's also why the Nagant revolver is the only revolver that can feasibly be fitted with a suppressor.

Fun fact. The spear guns from the 1910s to the 1940s was a martini Henry rifle design that used a blank powder shot covered with a wax covered paper cap. You loaded the round then put in the spear. I know this becuse I got to fire one.:) It was so cool.^^ It was a model from 1911 and was used on schooners and fishing ships on the Massachusetts cape to fire rope to tether there ship or for men to hold onto if the ship was sinking.
