Harry Potter vs. LOTR: The LOTR movies were better made indeed, but the Harry Potter story was better, because people could identify themselves more with its characters. LOTR is more of a classic fairytale, while Harry Potter is a more modern/closer to the real world story, not to mention, much more tragic. Source: I've read both series.

LOTR has a complete world outside the main story. Tolkien spent a great deal of time world building, developing characters, making sure that each character that was important grew. He created a last world with sub plots and missions, he peaked in to desires and the faults of man. J.K Rowling is a good author but by her own admission her work borrows from Tolkien on top of that. The Harry Potter series has plenty of plot holes. Admittedly the story is well told for harry potter but compared to LOTR Harry Potter is in its infancy. That being said the Characters of Harry Potter, for the most part are forgettable outside the main cast where as almost every LOTR character brings something new and unique to the table.

lemonfreak92 I mean you are looking at it strictly form a biased lens then. Over all tolkien's literary work is much wider and far better then rowling when you compare HP to the LOTR universe. HP is boggled by inconsistencies and filled with random attempts at sub plot. As far as world building the world is barley developed there is nothing there past the main characters honestly. She really does not set up an expansive wizarding world the only reason places exist are for the benefit of oh this is a place they visit a lot or to get somewhere. Where as in LOTR places exist because they fuel their own stories because the world is an expansive place. Infact Tolkien to this day is the only author to create a complete language, elvish. Elvish is a complete language, it has syntax, grammar, rules on making new words, rules on different uses of a word etc.

Gandalf would kerb-stomp Dumbledore and make him his Dumblewhore. Dumbledore is cool and all, helping defeat Voldemort, getting the best wand and all that. But Gandalf has lived for 2000 years, took death like it was nothing more than small breeze, defeated evil forever, is the equivalent of a god (Maiar), has pimpin' clothes and owns the king of horses. People can argue that they're even but honestly Gandalf would rape Dumbledore and make him run back to his little sister. You don't even see Gandalf's full extent of his power. Like the Greek gods in the Percy Jackson series, if you saw his full power you'd probably melt away from the awesomeness. Also Tolkien was a better writer, you can see the difference in quality if you compare the Harry Potter books to the LOTR books (Which by the way are both even as there are in fact a total of 6 books in LOTR, 2 in each 1).

Gandalf is much older than 2000 years (something like 50 000), it's just that he came to middle earth 2000 years before lotr. The Istari never show their power because they should only give advice to the men. The Istari are Maya just like Sauron, so you can imagine 'how mighty they could be'.

To be honest, you don't see all of Dumbledore's abilities either, because it states in the book that at even a young age, when he took his OWLs and was at Hogwarts, that he done things no one has ever seen or done before. However, one could be better than the other in certain situations for example, being a head teacher, Dumbledore would win because he has experience and Gandalf could be better than Dumbledore at something else.

When I first opened this video, I fully expected that Gandalf would win. Dumbledore's nice, but Gandalf's epic. Gandalf started okay, though "Death makes you die, it just makes my brights brighter" was the only line that actually felt both awesome and clever. Then comes Dumbledore, knocks his ass off back to Gandalf the Gray (HOW CAN HE DO THAT!) and then points out how he has wizard allies, while Gandalf has hobbits. I fully expected Gandalf to point out how he actually hangs out with kings, or how he was sent by Valar (Gods) while Dumbledore is just an ordinary human or at least do something to prove turning him back to Gandalf the Gray didn't hurt him or his powers in any way. And he did nothing like that. Imo both of them have mostly references that make no sense and seem to just be dropping random words for the sake of dropping random words. But I'm disappointed at how Gandalf seemed to forget most of the things that make him such a great wizard. "They call me Headmaster, you're nothing!" Gandalf is definitely not "nothing", but that doesn't show in his rap. And that's why he lost.

First of all, Gandalf's references actually made sensible puns, Dumbledore's did not. About the whole knocked back to Gandalf the Grey thing, was this canon? Obviously not and I sincerely doubt the real Dumbledore would be able to do that. And about the whole wizard ally thing; there's only five wizards in Middle-Earth and those are Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast the Brown and the two blue wizards err... Would you believe I've quite forgotten their names. I'd say being one of only five wizards of outright legendary status is much more prestigious than being one of literally millions, even if you are among the strongest. And the whole hobbit thing, I think the ability to find strength in the most unlikely of places is a very admirable ability. Gandalf is allies with kings, elves, dwarves, other wizards and other people that are much more prestigious than hobbits but not a single one of them would have been able to do what Frodo or Bilbo did in that situation. Gandalf knew exactly what person he needed for the mission and they succeeded where kings and wizards would have failed. That is an amazing ability, but does he brag? No, he doesn't. I'm a Harry Potter fan and I really like Dumbledore, but Gandalf is a much more interesting character and his raps in this were vastly superior.

He is a wizard not a maiar. He was sent to earth as a WIZARD. Dumbledore can apparate without a staff or a wand quietly or loudly. He also has much more powerful spells in his arsenal. Dumbledore can summon fiendfire, which if you saw, destroyed the room of requirement (look it up). Dumbledore has the elder wand which if you saw what Gridlwald did with the blu flames is really cool. Anyway just letting you know that Dumbledore never got a chance to prove himself. Gandalf got to fight a balrog of Morgoth, while killing each other. Gandalf had to have the Foehammer sword to beat that thing and I dont think the sword will do anything against literally alive fire. So there, I'm not trying to be an asshole nerd, this is a fun rap battle after all 😎 :)

After Gandalf becomes "Gandalf the White" he is immortal and invincible, since Ilúvatar (God) himself gave him strength, from the moment he returns as The White he can no longer lose to anything, that's a misunderstanding from the movies, Gandalf the White has no rival, there is nothing stronger than him and possibly there never will be as Gandalf the White is the representation of God's will. We never saw Gandalf's power because his mission was to guide and warn the inhabitants of Middle-earth, his power was to guide and only that. If he showed his power, the world itself would probably be destroyed, just as the Ainur feared before the First era. And yes, Gandalf also wins the batlle rap.
