Many video games explore alternate history. But when they start getting into the Kennedy assassination, you know it's gonna get weird. There are a few different games that have toyed with this particular moment in history and, strangely enough, the one that recreates it exactly is also the one that's fueled the most conspiracy theories about who really killed JFK.

My favorite JFK theory is easily the Oops, My Bad theory. Oswald missed his shots, startled one of the security behind Kennedy who was incredibly hungover, and the agent misfired when drawing his weapon, executing the president. No grand theory, no real second shooter- of course there was a coverup. This would be the most embarrassing fuckup of all modern american politics

When you said "even a resurrected Oswald probably couldn't recreate that shot in JFK Reloaded, because he's not a Kennedy assassinating robot", it made me wonder. Why has nobody created an Aimbot for JFK Reloaded to prove that the Warren Commission's version of events (or a modern version with a modern understanding of ballistics) was at least technically possible, given the barest simulation of real world physics?

Probably because it's a very small, short, old game that touches on a subject barely anyone who would describe themselves as a gamer would have experienced. But even so, would it be moral to suggest it could be done, but only via AI assistance? To many, I'm sure that would just fan the flames more.
@jaspermooren5883
@jaspermooren5883 Жыл бұрын
@@Ghiaman1334Well perfect recreation is almost never possible. I do archery and if I take a very long shot on a target and then try to shoot in the exact same spot again, I could try for hours and never succeed. That is because the statistical likelihood of ANY unlikely event to happen is very like, you just don't know which one. But if you suddenly make a very specific very unlikely event the goal, it becomes increadibly unlikely that you can recreate it. So no, it would make a lot of sense. If it was near impossible to kill Kennedy from even close to that spot in a somewhat similar way, than it would have been something to stir the flames over. But just killing Kennedy somewhere on the road is not that hard in the game.
@kinyutaka

@@jaspermooren5883 This is the real answer. JFK Reloaded is never going to have a perfectly scored round because perfectly matching a shot is next to impossible. If you put Oswald back in that Depository and had him shoot again, the shots wouldn't be the same. But that doesn't mean he didn't do it.

The version of JFK Reloaded that we have is not an 'intended for release' version. The dev put it out as a progress report of development and abandoned the project soon after. JFK Reloaded was interesting: I had played a few First person shoot 'em up games at the time and found it was relatively easy to take out JFK as his car moved along the part of the road where he was assassinated. It's easier to hit a target that moves along the line of sight rather than perpendicular, and obviously when it's close enough to see the target. Oswald, as a qualified shooter, would know this even before entering the book depository. It's called experience. If anything it reinforces the story about Oswald just because the Physics adds up.

I remember when I played Black Ops, at the same time I was reading John Pilger's Heroes, a retrospective of a career of journalism focusing on class, and it's chapters about Vietnam and Cambodia. There's a bit where he talks about interviewing some stoned GI's who were in trouble for "fragging" an officer's tent (COD will fail you for that kind of friendly fire). I remember playing the level set in Khe Sanh, which was wave defense against hundred of enemies and a bunch of tanks, making you the defensive, outnumbered underdog, and a later level set in Cambodia with you stealing an attack chopper and blowing up a bunch of villages. No mention on the years of bombs the US dropped on Cambodia. Black Ops is so over the top and silly, but I do remember thinking that for some young people, this might be one of their only reference points to the Cold War and that part of history. There's a Kowloon Walled City level, and the KWC doesn't exist anymore. I also remember doing reading on Chevaliette D'eon, and how her true history was way more fascinating than the joke Unity made her out to be. And she was a rare case of a trans person whose story survived in some form to this day. And I wouldn't have even known about her if I hadn't wanted to know more about this side quest character, who is just a cheap gag of a female character model with a male VA. Great video, and super interesting to learn about synthetic memory. Also Jacob Geller's "Cultural Legacy of the Headshot" is another great vid that includes JFK Reloaded.

I'm studying history and one part I'd like to add as to why conspiracy theories regarding the deaths of famous/powerful people (not only JFK or politicians) are so incredibly popular, is that it's really, REALLY hard for people to imagine how something relatively small or mundane can kill such a famous and (perceived) all-powerful person. Sure, a gunshot by itself is neither small or mundane in everyday life, but the thought that someone could've killed the "most powerful man in the world" just by pulling a trigger is, in a way, so bizarre. The fact, that people, who are widely regarded as "larger than life", can be killed by something, that is very much part of "life" just seems "nonsensical". This is good to remember, when watching true crime about famous people's deaths too btw. Yes, a cover-up is possible, but also it's possible that the person just fucked up and had an accident, or that someone just killed them.

I think media that makes you think and doubt offical historical narratives are extremely important, especially regarding recent events. To this day there are still extremely high profile cases that have completely bogus official explanations. There was a specific case of witness elimination in my country, the Pesseghini case, in which the entire family of a policeman was murdered and the police pinned their 6 year old child as the perpetrator who conveniently commited suicide right after the deed. All perfectly fired shots to the head and dozens of witness reports completely ignored by the police because they contradict their official story. At the time they went as far as saying the kid had motive because he played Assassin's Creed, since it is a game where you take lives.

I tend to enjoy alt history games. Some of the assassins creed stuff is fun (or C&C Red Alert), and ultimately some of the less ridiculous stuff you end up searching whether it really happened or not and learning some often weird history.

I believe that expecting all three shots to be Oswald is unfair. I support the theory that one shot was the secret service agent who trips and hits his body into the car. Because history is full of dumb stupid things

The old British Sci-Fi show Red Dwarf has a great episode where the characters end up time traveling and accidentally prevent JFK's assassination. But that creates an even worse timeline than the one we know. So they take JFK back in time *again* and he becomes the second shooter on the grassy knoll, killing himself for the common good.

Are the graphics a bit off in this video? Like theres no background and some graphics seem to be missing (audio cues at the beginning like game titles should be popping up but dont)?

Played JFK Reloaded ages back. It's relatively easy to get very close to Harvey's shots with a little practice, even if you don't get them exactly. It's also possible to flip the car by making the driver panic and kill everyone.

Should have left the tripod hit shot from the bloopers in tbh. In less lighthearted omissions, there were subsequent official inquiries that cast real doubts on the conclusion that Oswald was the only shooter. Like, unequivocally stating that that conclusion was wrong and that there was more than one. The conspiracy theories that spring around the JFK assassination are definitely just wild, but specifically with regards to Oswald being the sole gunman that day, there's definitely *something* going on there that's out of line with the Warren report.

Do some basic research on the Zapruder Film and you'll find it wasn't seen by the public until six years after the assassination, in 1969, for Claw Shaw's trial. First television broadcast in 1970. First network broadcast in 1975. Before then, there were stills available in Life magazine articles. There would have been no home recording devices available then for home viewers to be able to watch it again. Where were all of these public citizens seeing the Zapruder Film the way it's phrased in the video? Oliver Stone's film is probably the place where the most people have seen it, and that came out in 1991. The whole premise that JFK's assassination is "different" in history because it was so widely available for the public to see is pretty shaky when you realize that until the film was available to watch on the internet, it wasn't widely available to see anywhere, and in fact was highly litigated on when it came to rights. This video comes across like you want to take advantage of all the conspiracy theory clicks on KZbin without getting your hands too dirty by actually digging deep enough into the JFK assassination to understand it. Yeah, we get that believing whole-hog in conspiracy theories without critical thinking and research isn't a great idea, but at least the believers do basic reading on the subject. The above paragraph is all information you can get from one wikipedia article.
