@@efferger Its an ironical innuendo, because the impalement is pushing a sharp object through her. The real assistance is avoiding the impalement but selling the risk altogether otherwise it would devalue the performance but he refers to her as an assistant in "matters of impalement".

This is one of the greatest films ever made. It is a shame and a sin that the political will of the Academy shut it out at the Oscars. This should have received at least five. Who is talking about Chicago twenty years later?

"That's a wound." after deflecting a knife mid-air, with his own knife. A different level of man, experienced, skilled, but also knew the power of perception. Didn't even kill Amsterdam, only wanted to make an example...why? Out of respect for Priest Vallon, who was not his friend, but his adversary. It was out of respect for a dead man, and his own guilt. Bill had honor in his own mind - but he had lost it when he hoodwinked the Priest in open battle by throwing a stray in his direction to distract him, sidestabbing him in the confusion, and again with Monk with his back turned...because he knew he couldn't take either The Priest or Monk in a fair fight.

"Equal combat" my ass. Bill was absolutely a villain. He ruled with fear and was quite the coward himself, not to mention he pretty well stabbed Priest in the back without actually showing down with him. And how about throwing an axe into Monk McGinn after he'd turned his back to him? So tell me, how was Amsterdam not a hero? Butcher had built up quite the power rep and the only way to really take him down was from the inside.

Hes such a dick! He got her pregnant at 12, too young to be having babies. They allude to the fact there was a complication that meant her or the baby and HE cut it out of her. Toss her away cause of the massive scar. She'd fixed him up after he was shot, fixed and mended his waistcoat, and he pulls this? What a massively dick move! She didnt do anything, and he didnt even know weither or not she knew who Vallon was.
