Secondly, this band has a crazy history with each other. Band members were dating each other and broke up with each other, one guy was going through a divorce. They all basically wrote hate songs about each other and the band performed them every night. The hardest thing to do is channel all your emotion into your art and in the face of everyone you're pissed at. I watched a Bon Jovi interview years ago and he talked about the best time to write a song is when you're at your worst. It takes a lot of balls to stay in a band you're on the outs with. They stuck it out and made history. That's fire.

Fleetwood Mac is a combination of the names of the 2 original members of the band. Drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie.
@tomroome41182 ай бұрын
Bob Brunning was the first bassist as McVie was still under contract with John Mayall.
@airbrushaaron6662 ай бұрын
@tomroome4118 The band's founder, Peter Green, came up with the name as an instrumental track title after recording with Fleetwood and McVie in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Green later suggested forming a new band with Fleetwood, and named it after the rhythm section to entice McVie to join. When Peter Green left the Bluesbreakers in 1967, he decided to form his own group, naming it Fleetwood Mac after the rhythm section he wanted for the band - Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Fleetwood joined up straight away, and slide guitar player Jeremy Spencer was recruited, but McVie preferred to stay with the Bluesbreakers, where he was earning a regular wage. In the meantime, Green hired Brunning on a temporary basis, hoping that McVie would change his mind. During this period, Brunning played with Fleetwood Mac at the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival. After a few weeks McVie did change his mind, claiming that Bluesbreakers leader John Mayall was turning too far in the direction of jazz for his liking; hence, McVie joined, and Brunning stood down.

John McVie wasn’t originally part of the fledgling Fleetwood Mac at the very, very beginning back in England, but Mick was so determined to “steal” McVie from another band, he put “Mac” in the band name as a , “See man, I want you to be our bassist so bad, I put you in the name!”… and it worked 😂

(RIP Christy) Please keep going with them! Mick Fleetwood (drums and who is quite the character), John McVee and Christy McVee are from Britain and Mick and John came to America to find a new lead guitar and discovered Lindsey. After a few releases and a couple of albums,Mick was looking for new members to replace a couple of them they'd lost. He heard Lindsay Buckingham's guitar playing and loved it wanting him to join, but he would not join without his girlfriend and partner singer Stevie Nicks, and when they first came to meet the band and see how well they meshed, they all hit it off great, and Stevie and Christine were BFF's right away. Taking turns on singing various songs and writing in particular. Christine passed fairly recently, and we miss her much. Stevie's first name is actually Stephanie. She wasn't able to pronounce Stephanie when she was a little girl. She always said it as "Stevie" and it stuck. Another interesting bit about Stevie was that her grandfather was a country western singer/performer in the 1940's and 50's. He would travel around to fairs, festivals and small venues near their hometown of Tucson, Arizona and perform. Stevie learned how to sing and play guitar sitting at her grandfather's knee. So she came from a musical (at least as far as her granddad) background. I personally have always loved Stevie's voice. I think it's beautiful.

Much respect Krizz. Awesome to see you getting the lads on and exposing them to sounds they would likely never come across by themselves. If you like the 70's Soft Rock vibe then I would love to recommend a genre you may not have even come across yourself - "Aussie Pub Rock". This is a sound which started in the 70's went through the 80's and into the 90's. It's not completely dead but very uncommon now. We're talking bands such as Cold Chisel, Rose tattoo, Midnight Oil, Icehouse, Little River Band (LRB) just to name a few. And many of the members of these bands also went on to have successful solo careers - John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss. John & Jimmy (affectionate called "Farnzie & Barnzie" by fans) even did a colab album of songs with a blues feel to it. The thing with Jimmy is it is hard to believe someone who has such a poweful rough scream (watch "Working Class Man") can also control that weapon to do such a delicate ballard in "Stone Cold". Here's a list of what could be considered a primer for Aussie Pub Rock and individuals' solo careers. The group is named after John McVie (bass) and drummer Mick Fleetwood. Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham were a duo who joined the band. Christine McVie is on piano and was married to John. The group has had a lot of inner turmoil. Lindsey & Stevie began to fall apart at the same time John & Christine did and the music they made became their biggest selling - RUMOURS. Many of the songs are written about their relationships within the band. All that resentment, anger & sadness became fuel for incredible writing.

Mick Fleetwood and Peter MacVie ("vee"), the bassist, combined their names to make Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood had his "drum face" like guitar players have a "guitar face" and quite often played with his mouth open but, he wasn't yawning. He was just deep into the groove. Fleetwood was a terrific drummer who could play as complex as you like but, also understood the importance of keeping a simple, steady rhythm and letting it support the song and not overpower it. So many "good" drummers do not have the ability/discipline to just play this simple of a beat for an extended period of time. They try to add fills and break from the main beat because they're either bored, incapable or just too undisciplined and having a drummer that actually gives the song what it *needs* rather than what you *think* it needs is a real rarity. 😊

There are other absolutely amazing a capella groups (Home Free & Voice Play are the 2 biggest & I think you'd enjoy both very much! Mick Fleetwood was known for opening his mouth while drumming. Paul McCartney took him off in his music video for the song “coming up”.

I didn’t care for them when I was young but I appreciate them now in my 60’s!

When you say that they ridiculed Stevie’s voice, I would be very interested to learn who “they” were. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸

Stevie Nicks is the 1st Female to be Twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Fleetwood Mac & for her solo career . You'd recognize her song "Edge of Seventeen" from her solo career which has been sampled a lot . The Live version of that song from a HBO special from the 80's is classic . 😎

Back in the day, they had pure talent, no autotune, none of the stuff they have today to make those who have no singing talent and can't carry a tune in a bucket sound good just pure talent.

😊❤ Hi Guys! 😅 So, love the reactions! Here's a little memory jogger! 😉 Yes, I know you have most likely heard this song in stores. But there was a video that almost singlehandedly rebooted Fleetwood Mac! Do you remember "The Cranberry Guy"? His video went viral!! He was simply cruising on a skateboard, with a bottle of Ocean Spray Cranberry juice in his hand, and this is song is playing over it, apparently what he's listening to on his headphones!! It was such a big deal that Ocean Spray gave the guy a brand new 'Cranberry Red' pick up truck with the bed filled with their juice!! LOL 😂 I remember that Stevie and/or the band reached out too. I just can't remember the details! Love to all! 😊❤❤

There was some crazy stuff going on with this album. Lindsey Buckingham was with the one dude in the band. Then he and Stevie were hooking up. Then they wrote this album while a crazy affair going on. They are very good! Very big in the 70's ! Then again in the 2000's ! Stevie did some songs with Tom Petty too. She is an icon! This album that this song comes from is a classic! It was cool to see you and your son checking it out!

So quick bio i believe is largely correct. Fleetwood Mac was originally more of a blues band kicking around England. Mick Fleetwood and John MacVie being core members. At some point a young couple, Stevie Nicks and lead guitarist/writer Lindsey Buckingham join the group. Rumor is they wanted Stevie but her boyfriend was part of the package deal. Both of us or none of us type of deal. Hits soon followed along with a shift in music style and presentation with Stevie being a center piece and her boyfriends legendary playing style moving into the spotlight. Christine MacVie (Johns wife) becomes the keyboardist and 2nd female vocalist while being the lead in some releases. I believe John was out of the group at this point. Stevie and Lindsey eventually break up but the group marches on for a period of time. Rumor (maybe true, maybe not) is that this song is directed by Stevie at Lindsey after they broke up. Meanwhile, he plays lead guitar and backup vocals in a song that is basically trashing him. lol Eventually Stevie got too big for the group and went solo. Lindsey also had a succesful solo career ('Holiday Road', the theme song for the original movie "Vacation" with Chevy Chase is Lindsey playing and lead vocals as a solo act.) They have reunited at various points for reunion concerts. Stevie is considered to be one of the top 5 or 6 influential female "rock" vocalist of all time. There are 7 or 8 Fleetwood Mac songs that got a lot of play and 5 or 6 solo Stevie songs that got a lot of play. Many spanning decades of fans. Many female performers list Stevie pretty high with being a big influence. She broke some molds in the it was a very male dominated industry when she entered and sexism was a very big hurdle for women. Basically, sex sells so females would atruggle to succeed if they didnt take advantage of sex appeal in how they appeared and carried themselves. Nit gonna say Stevie wasnt loaded with sex appeal cuz millions and millions of teen and 20's boys/men crushed hard on her. (including me. lol) But she also had some control in her own destiny not many female singers of the time had. Sounds a bit harsh when the reality is that everybody in the group is/was really good with quality musicianship but one could argue Stevie's charisma, looks, presence and presentation basically stole Fleetwood Mac which then lead to a successful solo career, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and Legend status. Mr Fleetwood has never gone away. He's older and has some other business interests but has always remained in the music sceen as well. More recently his face popped up in the media quite a bit because he lives in that town in Hawaii that had the terrible brush fire a couple years ago. His successful trendy seafood resturant/bar called "Fleetwood on Front St" in Lahaina Hawaii burned down along with dozens of others and hundreds of homes. His face in the media helped get support for the plight of the area. As far as the music not being ultra technical. Sometime music is and sometimes it isnt. Many rock songs/groups go for "the feels". lol Its the emotion in the music that draws people in as much as technical savy. That is not to say many rock musicians CANT throw down technical playing. They aften times do. Its just not always built into every song. Sometimes a stripped down more basic sounding song makes it easier to convey an emotion. Playing with "the feels" is also a sign of good musicianship in that the musicians use the sounds to take the listener on an emotional journey. A great example of this would be "Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb, Pulse Live.". You should really react to that please. I have no doubt that hundreds of guitarist can nail every note of the 2 solos, but I doubt many can create the undeniable emotional journey David Gilmour takes the listener on. The entire group is orchestrating a 'feeling' as much as they are good sounds. Its not always the notes you play, its how you play the notes.

If you want to check out another track similar to this one from FleetwoodMac, I would recommend "Songbird." They also have a concert that they put on 97 called "The Dance" that is an absolute must see! Some of the highlights: "The Chain" (basically the band's anthem) "Big Love" "So Afraid" "Silver Springs" "Landslide" "Everywhere" "You Make Loving Fun" All showcase the various band members and you cant forget the grand finale, "Tusk" Encored by, "Don't Stop" I promise, you will not be disappointed! 😁

Stevie's real name is Stephanie. Her family nickname for her as a child was TeeDee. TeeDee became ''Stevie'' outside of her family as she got older. But, her mother still called her TeeDee until the day she died.

Mick Fleetwood is known for making all kinds of weird faces while drumming, but he is an amazing drummer. This song just happens to be a laid back groove. BTW, the group alternates lead singers based on who wrote each song.
