Help! I just installed the new switch but it constantly blinks. I have rewatched your great video 3 times. What did I do wrong?

Thank you, you may have wires that are slightly corroded. Take them off and make sure they are shiny copper, and you may have to strip them again to reveal clean copper. Then make sure to wrap the bare wires all the way around screw and tighten down properly. If that doesn’t work, the other end of the wire might not be tight in the garage door opener. If you have 2 switches sometimes the opener can’t supply enough voltage for them both. You may have a break in the wire somewhere. You can try reversing the polarity, that means just switch where you had each one connected, this might not work because I think this particular switch is polarity sensitive. Lastly, you could have a defective switch. Maybe get a new one and swap it out. If this doesn’t work, let me know if the one you had was lighted and if you have 2 switches or just this one. As of yesterday my button like this is now blinking 23 years later. What does that mean? My remotes do not work now. It did work for me 2 times yesterday afternoon but maybe it wasn't blinking then. Didn't realize til my final stay.

I don’t know what system you have. You can look at the model number on it, then download the owners manual online to tell you what that means for your particular opener.

I have the wires along side the garage door for the obstruction sensor. Can I wore the button into that wire or do I need to run a different wire? Thanks. Great video

Hi there, great video. When I install my button, the button start to smoke. I tried to reverse the wires as well. If I touch the two wires without the button, the opener works fine. Any thoughts?

If it started to smoke, there is a short in the switch. The smoke is from the resistance in the short where something inside the switch is grounding out, most likely a resistor. You will need to replace the switch. If it was a new one, then you got a bad switch, or accidentally shorted it out when you installed the wires. Also make sure when you connect the wires to the switch you don’t touch them to anything else metal on the back of it, very carefully wrap each exposed wire around the screw only and tighten the screws down. Watch the video again and make sure You only strip off as much wire as you need like I did and carefully connect it. If you don’t have steady hands, unplug the opener before you connect the wires, then plug it in when your done so you don’t short the new switch.

I now have a button at the garage door entrance, but would like to add a second button by the exit of the garage, next to when the door is closed, but inside. Would I connect the second set of wires to the same screw connections at the door opener, as the first set? I have a Craftsman... Great video...

Yes exactly! If you watch the video again right around 49 seconds you can see that I have 2 sets of wires for 2 different switches going to the same set of screws. Pay attention to polarity as I said in the video, and you have to use special wire as I recommend in the videos. Everything is in The description if you need it.

It will work on any system that requires a momentary push button which is almost all of them. Try calling the company and asking them.

Do you have to get new wire when replacing the push button?

No you don't if it is in good shape and the casing on the outside isn't starting to crack or feel brittle. I put new wiring because the one in our house was 40 years old and cracking from age, so I didn't want it to short. Thanks for the great question!

Thanks for video! My button died so I used your link to buy a new one but it wouldn’t work so I ended up buying a different button on Amazon. Anyway, the button worked atleast to get my garage door to go up! However the button isn’t working to close the garage door. Any ideas? Thank you

I already did! Thank you for the advice. I wish they would make things like they used to that simply work, with solid state electronics, and forget about all the digital microprocessors, WiFi and all the other nonsense.

How many volts the push button need to support 12v ? Can you test with a voltimeter there ?

Either the wires came loose in the back which is highly unlikely or it broke. You should replace it.
