Garage door opener only works sometimes. (Quick fix!)

I started having this problem with my remotes and keypad. I had not changed the bulb for years. I removed the old bulb and put in a regular bulb, and so far, so good. Thank you VERY much! So, this worked for one day! The next day, after backing out of the garage, I was unable to close the door again. I tried removing the bulb, and it works periodically. Back to the drawing board.

He has an older garage door because I can hear how noisy it is. If you have an older garage door, but a fairly new garage door opener then you will need to replace the rollers with new nylon rollers. OR, use a lithium spray and hit your old rollers and hinges (everything that moves) with that spray. Your door will become quieter and should remove the down-force resistance it is detecting. The first time you try to lower your door you might need to push on it a little to make it close. Get that lithium grease moved around!

I have (Had ) the same issue. The door will not close if the (motor unit) light is on . Like in this video if the light is turned off manually it will then close. I did have an issue initially with the bulb (LCD-type) and RF interference but that is not the case now with a replacement Incandescent bulb it still wouldn't open even with the bulbs removed (but the internal relay for the lights is switched on). My fix was to reset the unit . 1: unplug and re-connect. 2: erase all codes (Hold the button, red in my case, for 6 to 10 sec. then 3: re-program all remotes (press the (red) button briefly and within 30 sec. press the remote you want to program (synchronize with the motor unit). I believe there was an issue with the "lock button" (on my wired control) you may want to press that on or off if you have that feature . One other thing (not sure if necessary but...) The Door was down while programming & I made sure the Motor unit lights were also off. All is working fine now.

Thank you so much! YOUR solution is EXACTLY what I needed to fix the problem where the remotes wouldn't control the door if the (incandescent bulb) light was on. Goes to show - this problem isn't always caused by interference from an LED bulb. I still wonder what may have caused this problem - maybe a recent power failure? - but your reset instructions were just what I needed.

Removing and then readding all of my remotes fixed the issue on my Liftmaster 2.0, model 8550WLB (with incandescent bulbs). My thanks to the person who created this video, and to @StopAndGo1 for providing the solution.

Hoozah!! Damned thing was driving me crazy. Mine would work inside the garage fine but once I was outside a few feet it wouldn't work but if I was say 75 ft outside the garage it would work. I added to the antenna changed batteries I don't know how many times but being cheap and stubborn (deadly combination) I just lived with it until now. Opened up the light cover and shazzam! Yuppers there was an old style LED.! Make sure you hang onto a few of those old Edison bulbs for your door openers!

My remote worked fine in the beginning. After a few months. I was able to open it and not close. Since I moved in, there was never a bulb. After a while the remote just gave out. I changed the batteries. I put an led bulb specifically for garage door openers. Have pitches new remotes. And still they don’t work. I have a wall button. But there isn’t any other button in there to turn off the light. How to I go about making sure the light is off. It’s a older model craftsman 1/2 hp

Mine ended up working somehow even with the LED light, but your video helped me start messing around with it differently and trying to program at different times… finally it programmed correctly (even though it was when light was off) and worked. I had unplugged it and reset it before it worked for good though.

LED bulbs product 300 to 400 mhz radio signals that interfere with garage door opener signals. need to get receiving antenna away from the lights. I too live in a steel building. I had to use grounded coax cable extended to the outside of the building. I stripped away 9" of grounded exterior cable, mounted through insulated bracket not allowing the center 9" wire to touch ground. Use aluminum tape on antenna wire that is not covered by ground inside the building. solder connections. Antenna length is determined by wave length, only need 1/4 wave. Grounded exterior of the coax cable is what does the trick.

You problem solved my issue but it is not the bulb. My remotes don't work while that light socket is active. Once it shuts off it works again. With or without a light bulb. So not sure if their is a way to deactivate that light from going on.

Hi, just came across your video. Very informative and helpful. I am having the same issue and the fix of shutting the light off works but of course, the light turns back on when I drive out, and am then unable to close the garage door from the car. BEFORE YOU BUY THE OVERPRICED "GARAGE OPENER LED BULBS" READ THIS The more "modern" LED bulbs are made to work with dimmers, just like the old incandescent lights. In order to make that happen with LED bulbs, they put in the LED bulb a variable square pulse wave generator which is basically very close to a classical variable frequency oscillator. And that basically, is why SOME LED bulbs interfere with your garage door RF receiver. The solution to your problem is very simple and very cheap. Go to the nearest HOME DEPOT store and buy the CHEAP NON-DIMMABLE LED bulbs. TA DAH! Yes, the only "special" thing about the "special" garage LED bulbs is the huge price mark-up

Thanks for the video. Does cold weather affect the closing? In winter, the wall-mounted control closes the door but sometimes, the remote-control device will cause the door to start closing for a second then open as if there was something interfering with its closing. When this happens, the light blinks. Have you any ideas?

Sometimes mine does not close (seems like after installation of wifi door opener, mine is super old one, automatic doorman model 455) and I just plugged wireless plug between the power plug and the outlet. I will see if I can reset the power by turning on/off the wireless plug.

Do your Led on your ceiling interfere with your garage door. I have the same leds and I took them down because my garage works on and off. Ordered new remotes and still same thing. I ordered the smart remote. Worked for two days and now doesn’t connect. Idk what to do. Maybe the antenna? Or just buy another unit?
