I am very impressed that as a young person you seek peace, beauty and simple creature comforts. I smile when you arrive prepared with food items that are beautiful and you serve yourself on china and drink from a stemmed glass - it’s so very civilized. Treating yourself well is definitely a learned behavior for most of us. Stay positive and continue to see beauty in the simple things!

I learned years ago when planting flowers, especially when I lived out in the country, that it's so smart to buy the perennials that come back year after year. That and to grow flowers from seed and overwinter them. I love plants also, but I also love saving money. These days, I never buy annual flowers or plants. I remember admiring a garden set way back from the road that we used to drive buy out in the country. The colors of the plants these people had there were gorgeous. They had a garage sale once, and that's when I discovered that every plant this woman had was actually artificial! She certainly saved some money there, lol. Cracked me up.

It was literally a piece of concrete to stand on and a huge barrel mounted on some metal poles, with a shower head attached to it and a curtain around the whole construction to cover ourselves. We filled the barrel every two or three days from the garden hose and the sun warmed it. :) Just an idea.

Last season I also bought some of those flowers that look like little sunflower bushes. Here in the American southeast the little yellow birds love these plants for the seeds. I had a great time watching the little bright yellow birds -which we seldom see- flicking seeds all over my deck! When the plant blooms out for the season the seeds dry and what the birds left I collected. I will try and grow some myself next spring.

Then you flopped down and vanished into the plastic. 😁 That was an awful job. You deserved the ice cream. 🍦🍧Good idea, yes, paint the tools handles lilac. It will look lovely against the yellow wall. You can buy a tin of Shabby Chic spray paint. You could put up a tool holding rack instead of them lying on the ground. I need to do the same at home. Make the back area an arty tools vibe. Wall art.🎨🌞 Enjoy your sunny summer days and flowers. 💐☀️

I love the idea of painting the handles of your tools lavender to match your door! My local landscaper said when sowing grass seed, put some down, rake it in, put more over the top then add water with plant fertilizer like Miracle Gro. This will give it a faster start. If you have hay or straw to put over the top that will keep it from drying out and allow extra warmth for it to germinate.

I ❤️ your cottage the yellow is so much happier than the blue. I LOVE your idea of painting your tools lilac! You could also find a neat way to hang them up. I've also seen pallets used to store the tools that looks amazing. The trunk would look lovely lilac also! I agree dress it up w painted flowers on the outside to make it look you. Oh and an outside shower so ready to do. You have a hose. My hubs and I are adding on to my mom's homestead, dry cabin and we have a small camping hot water on demand system that either hooks up to the hose or rain catchment buckets. it's a GAME CHANGER!!!

Hi Elise, I am impressed. You worked so, so hard for two days. The outcome is simply stunning. I hope you can enjoy your cottage and garden for the rest of the summer. Here's an idea. Paint the wooden tool.handkes different, vibrant, happy colors, like your flowers. But that box, you can paint lilac. Ha, ha And, you can have an outdoor shower. You just need to have a circular curtain and you can use the garden hose. Well, maybe not. But still an outdoor shower would be great.

I'm not familiar with your area, but the sand your using is what we call "fill" here where I live. We don't grow anything in it really. First we put it down to build up an area, then we put at least 4 inches of soil on top of it for grass and such. We rake out the bigger stones if we plan on using the lawn for activities and so they don't rise to the top and we step on them or damage the blades of the lawn mower. We don't mix the soil into it like you did and we use A LOT more soil. But you have a green thumb from everything I have seen and could probably grow a flower on a rock😁. I'd just hate to see you do all that work to find the grass won't grow. We have a huge lawn and it's really beautiful and nice to walk over and children can run barefoot and it feels soft on their feet so I wanted to share how we do it.
