Great video Jane. Slugs in the garden and fungus gnats in the greenhouse were my horror stories. Too cold and wet to plant until late in the season, never known a year like it. Fingers crossed for next year, the triumph of hope over experience…!

Great video, Jane. Like your intro a lot. ❤ I grow in raised beds and containers in my little backgarden. I am lucky, i haven't got to deal with creepy crawlies and other animals a lot( now and than pigeons and cabbage whites), but the biggest nightmare was the weather this year for me.
@JanesGrowingGarden3 ай бұрын
I think the weather is changing so rapidly - we're really going to have to up our game if we're going to be able to keep growing successfully. Great that you're able to grow stuff in your back garden - can't get more convenient! Thank you.

Fabulous Jane. I sympathize with everyone. My nightmares are rats, which eat everything. They dig up my tulips and even when I put chicken wire over them, they nibble the tops as they come through. This year, the tulips have been doused with chilli powder and so far its worked!!! Childrens windmills solved my mole problem. We all have our problems but we can only smile through it!!!! I live in southern Scotland and the wind has been terrible all year. Worst I can remember.
@JanesGrowingGarden3 ай бұрын
I know we have rats around but as far as I'm aware they haven't affected us too badly - so far! Great idea with the chilli powder. I did have a lovely windmill a couple of years ago and it was great for the pigeons - not sure where it's got to now. Weather of one sort of another seems to be catching a lot of people out doesn't it - let's hope for a calmer 2025! Thanks Jenny.

My nightmare this year has to be SLUGS! So destructive. Many of my plants have been damaged or lost by these little blighters. I'm just glad we don't have gophers in the UK. Moles are bad enough.

We planted sweet corn and.....we brought something FORTH! CROWS!!! They pulled up the sprouts...they dug the seed kernels out with their beaks! Finally, we got some corn growing after planting fot the billionth time. Then....DROUGHT! Horrors! Thank goodness for rainwater catchment! We did manage to foil the plans of one garden demon...the cabbage moth! I netted the day Iplanted and we actually got a few cabbages this year! Happy Halloween!

Oh no - the crows probably thought you were very kind putting the corn out for them! Sometimes it’s a bonus to get anything isn’t it! Well done on defeating the cabbage moth though - at least you were able to harvest something! Thank you.

Hi Jane! I'm a California gardener with gophers. I have an exterminator that kills gophers using metal traps. Unless you've experienced a gopher eating 9 square feet of Oriental poppies in one day or watched as they pull a whole tomato plant underground, you can not understand how destructive they are! We've also had to rebuild a shed and pay to have contaminated shelves, paper products, and garden supplies removed after an outside rat infestation at a cost of thousands of dollars. We now have the exterminator bait rat traps in the yard with a non secondary kill poison that won't harm any scavengers. I'm all about bringing birds and butterflies into my garden, but no gophers or rats are allowed. Love watching your videos, even if I don't always agree with you. 😊
@JanesGrowingGarden3 ай бұрын
Honestly I don't know how we'd cope if we had gophers - I'm sure there would be a lot less people trying to grow things - they sound so destructive! Hope your defences are working! Thanks Susan.

Zombies in the garden are my biggest garden nightmare! 🧟♀️ Specifically a zombie gardener-they are quite common but not often spoken about….but very very dangerous in your garden 🧟♀️👻 How do you know if you have been infected? 🕷️🕸️ You will notice you slow down, almost to a crawl, weeds creep in, harvest stay on the vine, animals move in to the plot, plans are forgotten, best intentions are but a distant memory -the only thing that feels good to zombie gardeners are slow strolls thru the fading fall garden watching the spiders weave, the leaves drop and winter creep in……watching KZbin gardeners doing all the proper things at the proper times moaning a long zombie gardener moan 🧟♀️💀
@JanesGrowingGarden3 ай бұрын
Ha ha - in that case I'm definitely part zombie! Thanks for the giggle!
