This is great thank you. I’m taking on an existing concrete base and extending by a metre. I’m actually building on the site of an existing concrete shed. I’m having because of neighbours leave three sides of the existing walls, add a timber structure to the inside and insulate from there. In theory using the concrete walls as cladding. Fingers crossed I’ll be starting in April 2023!

This is great. I am just planning my build. What kind of paving slabs did you use beneath the frame? Worries that the ones I have seen would break when drilled into!

Hi Leia, we just used normal paving slabs but if it's something you're concerned about then you can get concrete or heavy duty paving slabs. However, if I was doing this again I'd consider something thicker like a concrete block to allow for more airflow. Good luck with your build!

@@richclifford4571 thanks. It’s hard isn’t it, trying to get it all to fit under the height restrictions!!

@@leiamonsoon4454 definitely! I'm 6ft2 and was really worried about the finished inside height but if it makes you feel any better, there's plenty of room and it doesn't feel low.

Only thing - I would put ground membrane under the floor frame, so the moisture from ground doesn't affect timber joists.

Living in a terrace house period isn’t ideal at all when it comes to building With the limited amount of space it be best to just buy one cause your creative ability is very limited in that small space. But overall it’s nice to see that hasn’t stopped you.

Thanks Alfred! You're right, building a garden office in a terrace house wasn't ideal (lots of moving materials through the house) but if I could go back in time I'd still build rather than buy. The main reason for this is that I was able to maximise the space I had. I could build right up to the fence lines, which for me was about 3.2m, rather than buying something off the shelf which would have dimensions that didn't perfectly fit my space. The other reason is that building it myself saved me a lot of money. Buying one would have cost 3x what I paid for my room. BUT it did take up a huge amount of my free time! So there are definitely lots of pros to buying one!
