This is exactly the same scenario that I will face next summer when I'll start building my garden room after purchasing your home build pack. Extremely glad to see this video today, I've seen most of your videos and your work is great. Liam and the team, thank you for everything you taught me so far

Hiya , why don't you put a length of drain pipe over the rod as a sleeve while filling with concrete , it might save time cleaning them off later. 🤔🤔🤔

I assume you can take your 2.5m off the pad? There were a few levels going on there. It’s a fantastic system that seem to overcome most problems. Nice one.

Is there any danger of the square plate washer rusting inside the concrete? Should I use stainless steel?
@thegardenroomguru2 жыл бұрын
It’ll be fine mate, if you Google rust rates you’ll know, you could always get a galvanised one or paint it if your worried
@solawoodart96092 жыл бұрын
Rust is a type of oxidation, if there is no contact with oxygen(air) there is no rust.

I'm not a builder, not even a diy-er so there's probably a simple answer. But why not run two string lines one near the base and one near the top, that way they'll be proper straight (plumb?) . No hate, love your stuff

Thanks for these amazing videos which have successfully helped me to build my own room which is brilliant. One question over the summer my p trim room trim has a wave in it due to the heat . Was thinking of pinning it down move to get rid of the wave but I know you suggest not to pin it to tight ? Any help would be appreciated 👍🏻

I am watching your videos and they are very good. I am using the rod system around the perimeter walls of a small storage bunker under my garden room. I have sacrificed some old marine plywood so I could level up the wall plate then simply dangelling the rods with square washer and nut. So that I can use a wet mix concerte to cast wall and floor.

Like all foundations it's not a one method fits all. All depends on ground conditions. Pilling is on certain grounds is fine but in certain ground a raft would be required. Joinery skills are fantastic btw.

Looks very messy but you can't fault the method, it's almost too simple for more people not to use it because everyone wants to have complicated stuff in order to show off his much they've spent on it 🤷

Very good system. Love watching these videos showing it even though I’ve seen hundreds of times
@Stewart_Bell2 жыл бұрын
Well done this is a really resilient system. What I Iike about it is the ability to put a low cost installation foundation in with 'visibility' on what is being excavated; visibility means being able to see what is going on, in this case underground. Ground screws = great but if that machine goes through services, that's a big bill from a utility supplier to put things right. There are many methods and each has their merits.

On the top 5 inch you could set in post create make the job faster and secure the level and straight until the concrete sets below and masking tape the threads save disturbing them with the brush scrubbing off

Do they have to be perfect lay level/plumb or is there a tolerance? Cheers

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! What do you think about reducing the thickness of the rods? 20mm are much more easy to get over here (and a good amount cheeper as well). Keep up the good work, stay healthy and safe ❤
@riptiz2 жыл бұрын
20mm should be fine. Lot of strength in that size. Don’t scrimp on the plate size as it’s used for not only holding the rod in the concrete but also for pulling the frame down.

You mention the red band around milwalkee drill is more powerful !! I was under the impression these are percussion drills and the most powerful milwalkee drill is the M18 Fuel.. had nothing to do with the red band. I could be wrong...that was my take. But thanks for the detailed video as usual. Very interesting. One tip as a carpenter I noticed when you was lining up the framing over the door, having Jen move the timber as you worked along it every 2ft or so..straightening... only correction you could possible make a difference is probably 6 ft.. you won't bend wood at 2 ft intervals.. so I would fix one end, move to middle.. Jen bend it so its right in middle, fix it, then final at Jens end. If the piece needs correction so much, I would disguard it. Not a critism, just hopefully help you. Great work. 👍

So, she’s not flexing the front trimmer , she’s lifting and dropping it so it’s in line with the rafters, everything is for a reason, she would have no chance of deflecting a 5x2 over 2foot, but what she’s doing is completely right, if you know what she’s doing, any crowning in the rafter will be rectified by what I’m asking her to do, meaning a straight front trimmer 👌
@davidguest6004 Жыл бұрын
@@thegardenroomguru its not a criticism. I admire you make these vids to help others...just a friendly view from a carpenters point of view when lining / straightening timber on edges. And Jen does great work..hats off to you. Keep up the good work.😀
