Hi Laura, love your videos. They are always a positive start to my day. Question-Would the roots that you cut off of the root-bound hostas grow? I have read about root cutting propagation. Would that be considered a root cutting?
@soccermom1245
@soccermom1245 2 сағат бұрын
I am not Laura, but I was interested in this idea, too. I can't find any information on growing hosta from the root material only. My own experience has been that hostas are propagated by dividing the crown with attached roots. Good luck with your garden!

I'll add my 2 cents of experience with them. You really wouldn't need to do that,. And I doubt they would grow. They've have really great bulbs that grow easy. Just divide them and plant the division with the bulb attached. I started with 3 plants about 10 yrs ago that are now at least 30 ft worth on hosta. And could be at least twice that if I divided them. They're easy care and a great filler.

I get what you’re saying. I lived many decades ( most of my life) in the intermountain west and pacific northwest. I really took evergreens for granted - spruce, pine, and fir. Now having been in Oklahoma for the last few years, I see how those trees struggle and just look sick for the most part. I wonder why folks here even bother. It’s like they don’t know how those trees SHOULD look if they were happy.

Why do they drill such tiny drain holes in concrete pots? For my pots, I cut a square of hardware cloth and top that with a piece of thin landscape fabric over the drain hole before I plant. That has worked really well to keep both the soil and the fabric from squeezing down the hole and plugging it. Plus it keeps the voles from burrowing into the pot through the drain hole. (I have a vole issue 😩)

I moved it 3 times. Now, it is big, I have limbed it up and have a shade garden of hostas, hellebores, and heuchera underneath. I loved watching Samantha just playing around you as you worked. The red Dahlia color is Carmine. It's a paint pigment color. It's a "cooler" red because it has more blue tones in it vs. yellow. That's probably why they sent it to you, knowing you're not a fan of bright red. Those beds look gorgeous 😍 Love the Carmine Dahlias. Though I love all reds.

The trees are beautiful. Question? The Sedums that you planted, we have a lot of deer pressure in my area. I have a lot of green sedum planted which the deer usually eat and I do spray it occasionally. The city has a bed on our corner and they have 2 sedum like what you planted and they’re beautiful. Do the deer not like that color because they’re dark red? I really don’t think the ladies spray them, because that would be too expensive for them. If that’s the case, I think I’ll get some next spring. Just wondering because I never get to see mine bloom, just a few times, if I get them sprayed enough.
