Douglas is just like my outdoor boy Jack. One of his nicknames is "crabby." He used to do the same thing- requested pets and then would grab your leg and run. Happy to report that he has grown out of it!

I have a bite scar from one of my moms crazy rescue cats. I walked up the stairs and one minute he was loving and then he jumped, put his paws around my calf and struck. Dang he got me good and that was enough for me to ever trust him again.

DOUGLAS…his “grabs” are defensive moves until he’s totally trusting of you…my personal opinion is if you show him that those don’t bother you and give extra ❤❤… he will RELAX around you more & eventually stop.

Laura introduced Douglas in December 2021 Garden Answer Dec 2, 2021 This is Douglas. Just like Cheddar, he showed up one day early this spring (curled up on the chaise lounge in the front sun porch to be exact) and just kind of stuck around. I honestly don't know if he belongs to someone else- he is very sweet and looks good- but he certainly spends the bulk of his time here (much to the dislike of Russell & Cheddar). Anyway, I thought I would make the introduction since he has made himself more and more of a presence. So, apparently we have 3 cats now...

The patio is just lovely. You know that I am the biggest fan of all those square trip hazards being gone. You can tell the way the kids are having fun that this space will be a nice family fun and gathering area. You might be able to save those rocks around your tree for your new pond area.😀😀

Douglas showed up a couple of years ago. Laura found him napping in the sun porch. I guess Russell accepted him too. There is also one black and white cat also that's there now also. Cheddar just showed up first a couple of years ago. Benjamin named the black and white one, but I don't remember his name. Goodness that's a lot of garden kitties!

Oh how I dream of random trucks just showing up with pallets full of plants! Have you thought of putting a raised lily garden in the center of the patio? That would be beautiful with the Hartley in the background and a stone walled lily pond with water lilies, water poppies, and water hyacinth (my favorite) floating on top. Kind of like the lily pond at New York Botanical Garden but on a much smaller scale. With the sound of a small fountain in the center, that would make for such a relaxing, serene place to just sit with a summer cocktail and stare across it at that beautiful Hartley!

Yes, a large sphere bubbler with a low basin would look amazing in the center of the patio area. It would mirror the curves & globes you already have around that area. Great idea! Love the cute neighboring fluff ball. He'll need to learn how to be nice to earn future closeups! BTW, we just ordered a Hoselink for our house! So excited to pull out & retract that hose for the first time. Now we need a piece of 4x6 wood to mount it on! Thanks for all your inspiration. :D

Think a great big bowl about 6' wide and 18" tall and water pump in the middle sending water up in sprouts up to about 4' high then just plant up around the basin. Very cooling to see jets of water. Love from England.

Love the combination of flowers in the circle planter in the brick patio. Seeing your children playing together as you work brings a smile to may face and joy to my soul.

Whole heartly agree about the shorter fountain. A nice bubbler type would suit that area perfectly, and no block your view. Like how many 3 tiered fountains does one garden need lol
