Thank you, Laura! I really appreciate this slowed down, 'show me how to do it' approach. It helps me so much! I didn't have great success the first time I tried winter sowing, but now I want go and try it again!!

Thank you for repeating the Winter sowing method. I didn't have much luck doing this last year but by you repeating your tutorial I realized that I may have used seed starting soil and may have not had big enough drainage holes and use masking tape instead of packing tape! So I need to try again! As a Gardner you never give up! Love Douglas and Russel! Russell is so funny. My cat sleeps on the arm of my leather couch straddling with a front and back leg on each side! Looking forward to what you do with your herbs that you planted.💚

I just watched your 10 year video! So amazing, and congratulations on 10 years! What I find amazing and fascinating is that I didn't realize, and probably most of us didn't, is that the "KZbin Channel" dream was Aaron's dream and not Laura's. I think we all assumed this was Laura's idea, and Aaron was the supportive spouse that got roped into being behind the camera and now in front of the camera sometimes too! ❤ love that you guys are so supportive of each other that we had no idea who was really the one behind the idea of "a KZbin channel " 😂❤

Milk jugs work great for perennials and shrub cuttings too 😊 Usually you just need one node above the soil and one below, but sometimes I have extra nodes to make sure roots take. I like to take cuttings in late fall. Although shrubs take lots of time to get big, I used it as an inexpensive way to start a boxwood and azalea hedge ❤

I use the winter sowing method for all the brassicas that I plant, like broccoli, cabbage, and brussel sprouts. Love this method. I was in town yesterday and picked up 3 new houseplants. An ivy, a begonia, and a beautiful wrinkly-leafed, purple plant that just says, "waffle plant" on the tag. I need to do some research on this one. My wintersowing is started, and I have my peppers stated in seed trays. I love this time of year.

Always look forward to your winter sowing of seeds to have a variety of plants ready to be planted out in the landscape after hopefully chances of frost is over. Seeds are for sure a lot less expensive than purchasing even small containers of plants at the garden centers. I for the first time did the milk jug containers for several varieties of flowers. Had over three hundred plants,counting the ones i did in trays with the plastic covers. All did very well. I had so many i could share with my daughters. I planted many that will self seed,so it's a wait and see thing this year and hope they will come up voluntarily. I've learned so much from watching your channel. Your Channel is number one when wanting to learn about gardening ,plus decorating an arrangements. I copy a lot of your container pots and landscaping ideas but on a much smaller scale. An it works.

Wanted to share that in November I had planted my leftover Amaryllis bulbs but was only growing green leaves even though I had put them in the refrigerator for about 6 weeks. So I ordered some new bulbs around Christmas time but was going to wait to plant them until the end of January but discovered that they were starting to grow even though I didn't have them in soil. In a few days they will be blooming which will be something to look forward to going through this cold season.

Thanks to you I have just completed my first ever winter sowing experiment 🤞. I always find the hardest part of gardening to understand is "watering", too much v to little. I live in south east England. Although most people think it always rains in England it seems to be changing. How long will the containers be ok for with no rain? Two weeks? Longer? If it rains for a couple of days in the month would that be enough? Thank you for all you do to help us beginner gardeners. If it wasn't for you my garden would still be a boring rectangle of grass with a few shrubs round the sides, now it has an array of borders that enclose the garden on all sides and even a small pond. Thank you for giving me the courage to just have a go! I always thought gardening was too complicated but turns out it's just a case of trial and error and an enormous amount of joy when it works.
@deelite235620 минут бұрын
You saw that in the jugs, she leaves the top open. You will notice that moisture will form on the inside. Once you see little to no moisture, it will be time to water. Also, feel the weight at first while watered. Afterwards, you can test the weight & if lighter...it needs water. If you use another container, be sure to put holes on the bottom for drainage & on the top to receive rain, snow or hand watering.

I, like you, enjoy putting my hands in the dirt, even in the winter. This planting season I am trying something new to me..... I am not going to use the cell containers in the trays. Plant seeds like your jug sowing method but in a tray, with the ease of transplanting when needed.

Will you be starting seeds for those areas? Are you going to use winter gem boxwood to line the walkway by the front yard fountain? Have you tried the seed starting method called a seed snail? You use a water permeable fabric (about 10-12 in. tall), add potting soil in a layer, sow seeds along one edge, then roll it up (jellyroll style) and tape the ends. Place the seed side up and water in. You put them outside like you would for winter sowing.
