Mackenzie’s acting is so good. His ability to play the insecurity and awkwardness of Gareth is incredible. Take a moment to try and replicate what he does without just looking like an awkward actor who can’t act. It’s actually a really difficult behaviour to act out and pull off so naturally.

@TheRealist 811 I wrote some after that but didn't stay there for some reason.I basically said that Brent reacts to group awkwardness in a different way. If you listen to his responses, he sounds more confused/WTF? If it was on speaker, I think Brent would have deflected it by bringing up himself to be the office comedian/entertainer, and how his employees are in a happier, more efficient workspace. 😄

I pretty sure that that guy doesn't know what planet he's on. He was attacking David Brent's ego even though it's a fucking comedy. Brent is funny because he is cripplingly insecure, and that is what causes him to be so big headed. His comment is so out of context and irrelevant, and the fact that so many thumbed it up really did give me that thought that people are encouraging stupidity. Most likely because they are dumb as well

The Detectorists is a masterpiece and the return of innocence to television, just great characters wrapped in an original story, and unlike most other TV series, nobody swears, gets murdered , abducted or torched by a dragon. The one word that could describe the whole thing would be the good C-Word: 'Charm' 😂🏆

@@focusaddiction3460 Agree with you completely on Michael, he was excellent to the very end... but Dwight... the writers let him get a little too wacky (and on far too grand a scale) toward the end. And back to Michael, definitely one of the best characters in American sitcom history, and a pretty interesting departure from the Gervais' original character, just as funny, just as cringy, but more depth IMHO.

a subtle thing I have noticed about the office is that every character is dislikeable in their own way. there are the obvious clowns (david, gareth, keith etc) who are unpleasant on the surface, but the others are quite off putting in more subtle ways. tim - clearly gets a kick out winding up gareth, to the point where it is actually bullying and indicative of an inferiority complex, possibly rooting from his unsuccessful life outside the office. dawn - causes tim a lot of unnecessary grief by staying in a relationship with someone she obviously doesnt like and strings him along for years before finally ending it with lee, when really she should have done it much sooner neil - not easy to notice but he clearly enjoys making david feel small, and often unnecessarily asserts his authority over david, hes a very subtle bully. rachel- as you said is very pushy and seems potentially quite aggressive. she also seems pushy with tim to move the relationship at an uncomfortable pace. the swindon office workers - are all quite slimy and deceitful. they seem nice enough on the surface but are actually really quite slippery as they often plot behind davids back. like when they gave him the nickname or reported him to jennifer. they have no respect for david yet they hide it from his face.

@@alexhamer8787 Excellent critical analysis of the characters. Personally I do think at times Tim does cross the ",bully" line. The only bit I slightly disagree with is Dawn and Lees relationship and her stringing Tim along. She's clearly unhappy but trapped, as much by external circumstances such as family pressure etc, but there is a genuine connection. It's not easy leaving an unhappy relationship and I do think that they nailed it with her performance. But everything else you said in my opinion is spot on.

They're equivalent in terms of comedy. The first three seasons of the US is as funny as the three seasons of the UK. People like the UK one because they knew when to stop before the creative juices expired.

@@grottphd9090 There weren't even 3 series. The original Office is pretty much perfect on all levels. The US version is just another comedy show with little substance.

MrKunt In the later seasons. If you can watch 1-4 and walk away thinking it was like "Friends", then there's no use in arguing about it.

@@grottphd9090 That makes no sense. My point was that the original Office didn't even have 3 series, and how on earth did you extrapolate from my comment that I was comparing it to Friends? The original could easily pass for real life: that's how subtle and perfect it is. The US version is obviously scripted and some of the situations are OTT, hence why I described it as "just another comedy show". Bits of it made me chuckle, but they're not hugely comparable due to how they cater for different audiences.

Think your forgetting the other 50 percent of what makes the office brilliant and that's Stephen merchant. He was as I'mportant if not at times more so with the writing which is what made the office a success. Yet people keep forgetting that lol just to prove it look st David Brent life of the road which had no involvement from merchant and it did terrible and was pretty bad and didn't cone close to the office. Was only a few funny parts in the whole movie. So goes to show how integral Steve was to the offices success. When Ricky and Steve work together they are magic. Shame they don't write any more new material and unfortunately went their own ways for particular reasons
