I saw this girl in the trumpet section and I just had to listen. And she was amazing like everyone else. We have many good bands in Norway but never heard someone swing like this before. This is swing on steroid taken to a new level. Amazing how they swing and back it up with sound and dynamic. Its like listen to contemporary music going swing and sound and fun. This teacher know what he is doing and they are lucky to have him around.

Actually, this song was written by Fletcher Henderson. A very significant composer, pianist, and arranger and one of those who created the structure of swing music.

Was it common with older bigbands for the entier sax sections to break out a clarinet and play it at the same time like at 5:15

That is some VERY clean and tight playing. If you laid it up against professionals, I'm not sure you would be able tell which was which.

ofcourse this sounds great, but is there any real improv or are the students just playing a solo they studied on?

Even if every friggin note was written out, if a person don't have the feel for it, you know it in an instant. It sounds corny. I didn't hear one tiny note in these three songs that sounded corny. An I played jazz in the old days.

I don't think there is a way to know unless you have inside information. Or have multiple performances you can listen to (such as in the case of the band in the "Swing Girls" movie where the solos were always note for note the same).

for sure but it just seems that they are reading the solo, nothing wrong with that ofcourse @@trainliker100
