I just realized after years of watching your channel, I've never seen you use a hot air station gun thingy. (Don't yell at me please 😂)

I have once or twice. I learned to solder and micro solder with an iron. I do have an air station and actually used it on the evs7000 to remove a few smd caps. Then i went back to cut and solder because it was faster.

Repairing a Garmin is why I am married. On the first date my to be wife was late and mentioned that her Garmin wouldn't come on and she couldn't find her way to our rendezvous. I offered to repair it and meet her again. I fixed it, It worked...and it worked - if you catch my drift. Ironically if I now spend too much time fixing things and not being with her I get threatened with divorce!

Nice fix sir! So whats your opinion on all these d**n surface mount connectors? Me personally I feel that through hole is much better, less risk for solder cracks or ripped pads.

Traffic unit cables have a "wart"on them that receives the traffic info. Plain cords worked for me but no traffic. Add the right cord and then traffic worked.

I’m having an issue with a toshiba crt where only when there’s white/bright colours on screen there’s vertical scrolling on composite/rf, on component the picture goes crazy, and s video no issues. Thanks to one of your previous videos I’ve recapped the vertical and power circuit when i was having vertical collapse issues. Do you have any advice?

I have a similar garmin nuvi that stopped picking up satellite signals, updating it never helped.

Nice fix but why not use the phone … so much more convenient and fast and integrated…
@12voltvids11 ай бұрын
The owner doesn't have a smart phone. He uses a flip phone. So that's not an option. Owner is a senior. Doesn't even text actually phones and speaks to you. Something the younger generation doesn't appear to know how to do LOL

Oh… that would explain it…

plus you don't need internet like on the phone
@dlarge650211 ай бұрын
Phones are too inconvenient as a satvav while driving. The screens are too small and glossy so you can barely see them. Plus as I'm in the car driving, the last thing I need is my GPS app to be covered up by notifications and advertising lol. Next to a proper satnav that is totally offline I use a good old paper map. I'm never without an ordinance survey map of the area in my car, only the OS app itself can be as detailed!

Why the hell you still using a stand alone gps would be my question. 😂
@12voltvids10 ай бұрын
Plenty still use stand alone GPS. The fellow that owns this is a senior and does not have a smartphone he has a flip phone. Even I use a standalone GPS in my work truck the reason is because I got a ticket for using an electronic device as I had my cell phone with the GPS giving me directions stuck on my dash. I wasn't touching it but the screen was lit up and because it was a cell phone I got $175 ticket. So I use a standalone GPS stuck to my window now and there's never an issue. That's why people still use standalone GPS plus the fact that there's no monthly cost to use it. If you use GPS a lot it's going to use a lot of data which means you need a big data plan.

GPS is fine. Your friend must buy a compatible power cable with an build in antenna.
@12voltvids11 ай бұрын
Were you not listening? My neighbor bought a new power cord with the antenna thinking it was the power cord that was at fault but it wasn't it was the GPS. The power connector the shield on it is what is used for the antenna and the solder had cracked at the board therefore the signal that the antenna was receiving was not being passed to the GPS. That was the fault it had nothing to do with the power cable and yes he is aware that it does require a special cable he had the cable he bought it brand new for $50 thinking it was the cable that was bad but it wasn't his original cable also works fine it was a connector that was broken on the inside of the GPS which is what I fixed and made my 20 bucks so I'm happy and my neighbors happy.
