Thanks for these videos. I just tested out my unit that came with the kayak I bought used and wasn't trusting of the constant clouds of suspended mid column fish across all the lake. Well, fishing bottom and getting no bites, then finally jigging mid depth got bites. Wish I'd have known sooner. I started off using a deeper pro+ that I love, but this unit is superior in lots of ways.

I'm new to using a depth finder and this is what I've been doing with my Sriker 4.... I turn on the fish notification sound. I don't change the sonar display though. This way... I get a little beep when the striker sees a fish... then I can look down at my sonar and try to figure out what the garmin is interpreting as a fish. So I get an audible alert but no visual... other than my standard sonar display. Time will tell if I learn anything. haha. Thanks for sharing.

Very simple and easy to understand... thanks man! Your videos remind me of being in science class watching one of those VHS tape videos that breakdown the earth, other planets, the solar system, and the universe, etc. Or an after school Bill Nigh the Science Guy show or something. Lol, it's great! I REALLY REALLY want to get the striker 4 plus at some point... with the down imaging, ya know?! I actually bought this one thinking that I could upgrade the transducer at some point, which I ended up doing. I bought the new 4 pin transducer, set it all up (ran my cables and all), and went to set it up on the screen... and I'll be damned if the new transducer wasn't listed on this unit 😫 I was so bummed! But it was my fault for not reading more in depth to find out that the "plus" models were the only ones that could do the down imaging. Oh well 😕 Anyway, I've been using this unit for about 10 months now, but evidently I didn't understand fully what I was doing with it. I just kind of winged it as I learned how to use it. I wasn't too far off, but your videos definitely helped me understand the basics much better. What I don't understand is how a fish appears if it's on the very outskirts of the cone... if it doesn't pass directly under the transducer. Is the arch longer, or more "stretched out"... almost like just a line? I use the fish symbols 99% of the time. I was playing with it the other day, and I got to a place where a bunch of symbols were there. So I switched the symbols off to see if they were defined arches, but they weren't really. It was almost like a long thin line. So much so that I thought to myself that it might be a thin branch or grass or something. But I was in relatively open and deep water... far removed from any cover like that. I don't know. I guess I just need to play with it more. Anyway, thanks again brother 🙏 🎣🐟👊💪💯
@1Cast1Fish4 жыл бұрын
Glad you find these videos helpful...and the Plus and CV models are awesome. If you saw a straight line...that's great news it means the fish is staying in the transducer cone...so its nearby still. The Fish ID will not show this very well.

Now if I could just figure out what the streaks are that I see. Just some blue, but others red and yellow. Long and straight streaks, not curved like fish are supposed to look. I am in a float tube. I wonder how being essentially stagnant effects the return?
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
Could be something in your settings, but normally when you see a "streak" what you are seeing is a fish that is rapidly changing depth. Arches are formed when the fish is staying at a pretty constant depth...the streak is the fish "arch" just accounting for a rapid depth change of the target. Many times if you are vertical jigging you can watch a fish streak to your bait.

I am new to sonar fish identification. I'm not clear on your video the fish images between the 3rd & 4th fish ID settings. Are the 2D sonar images green markings behind the fish icons?
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
Yes the info you see behind the fish icons is what you would be seeing with the 2D sonar

I fish in shallower lakes. If a fish shows 5ft deep, where is that fish in conjunction with the kayak? Right below or how far out in front?
@1Cast1Fish4 жыл бұрын
If the lake is only 5ft deep the cone size from your transducer is super small ….the fish you see would be pretty much directly under where your transducer is

I fish off a bridge - it is 500 feet long and it is about 10 feet from top of guardrail to top of water and it is closed to traffic. I was thinking of mounting the transducer to a a lightweight pole and secure the pole/transducer to a device (to the guardrail) that I can l move up and down the bridge (the Crappie are under this bridge) I would also secure the Striker 4 to a cart for portability. Do you think this is feasible would it work in your opinion? Deeper lake depths off this bridge range from 14ft -32ft. thanks
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
I am all for some engineering to get things to work for your situation. Honestly I don't see why it would not work under some assumed circumstances. 1st you have a 17ft transducer cable (I think...can't remember off the top of my head) but it should be ok in your situation with 10ft of distance. Next any mounting you design must keep the transducer flat with the water....not tilted. I think you have a cool idea give it a try and let us know what you think.

Hi , cracking film .. i fish with bait on the bottom ,for Thornbacks , Huss and Dabs . lots of different species .. i use the fish icon and depth gauge on my finder ... i never see a symbol on the bottom .. can you help .... thank you
@1Cast1Fish5 жыл бұрын
You know I rarely see the ID feature pick anything up on the bottom either...probably just a shortcoming of the ID feature. If you use the straight 2d sonar, you will see the arches on the bottom.

Hi thinking about upgrading my old Mark4 finder which mistaken debris as fish all the time, is this unit better in distinguishing between fish and floating debris? Thanks!
@1Cast1Fish2 жыл бұрын
I think so, but most issues people have when they say similar is that when using fish ID no fish finder will be 100% accurate as it is using any return fish or debris and thinks it is a fish. The best way to avoid this is keep practicing with interpreting and understanding your sonar screen without the fish ID.

@@1Cast1Fish Thank You!! I can get the reveal triple shot or the garmin 7sv at the same price…. Which one would u recommend? Which one is better for side scan? Thanks!

I have only used Garmin, Lowrance, and Humminbird, so that's all I can vouch for as far as quality. I have no experience with the reveal.

By the way I'm hunting for bait fish (mackerel) and they congregate in big schools/piles so really curios how the sonar or fish symbol would appear if theres a big school of bait fish? Be nice if you can show what that would look like. Thanks again

Actually if you look at the thumbnail for this video you will see a school of bait on the left and the same bait school on the right with icons on. Hope that helps a bit

Still learning my garmin vivid 4cv and with the fish Id on it's shows different sizes and colors of fish like red yellow orange and I can't tell if that's representing crappie or blue gill or bass ect.... any info on this?
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
The color indicates how strong the return is, not the fish size.
@adammadrid84293 жыл бұрын
@@1Cast1Fish so the fish id dose not 100% mean there's there's fish? At times there could be 5 to 10 fish in a row which I'd assume could be a school but so I'm understanding correctly on garmin 4 the color is specific to a species
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
Fish ID is not 100% perfect, that's why learning to read and interpret your sonar is so important. Fish ID is a great tool, but not perfect. As for color, color does not identify fish species.

my garmins image don't look anything like yours, l don't have the smaller display split screen and l have a solid line that is always there that changes when l am at different depths, is this a thermocline line? maybe l might have to do a factory reset :(
@1Cast1Fish2 жыл бұрын
Just some guesses since it's hard to tell without seeing it, but .... 1. the split screen is split frequency mode, or a combo screen that has to be setup 2. If the solid line is black and perfectly straight, it is likely the depth line feature is turned on

I’m wondering why when I put fish ID on, I see fish icons on the history screen but none on the A scope screen, it also seems to show fish icons simply wherever I move my jig. It’s lit the unit thinks my ice jig is fish or multiple fish, but I don’t see them on the A scope. Is there something wrong with it?
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
Well great news, everything is working great. So A-scope is real time like a flasher...no fish icons. Next the fish finder thinks your jig is a fish...since the icons feature can not determine a fish or your jig, it just sees a return and assumes fish. The good news is that your settings must be right on since the fish finders picking up your jig.

Great videos. Very helpful for a novice like me. Quick question. Is what I'm seeing on my Striker 4 screen coming from in front of the transducer? For example, if I see fish on the screen are they ahead of me, directly under me, or another direction?
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
Could be any...the reason is what you have is a 3D sonar cone, being depicted on a 2D sonar screen. This makes it somewhat difficult to reliably target things in a directional sense. The best to do is enable the A-Scope (shows info in real time) and when you see the arch you will know that the fish is within the sonar cone radius. (Close to the boat)

First and foremost, your videos are the ONLY reason I was able to realize my dream of mounting a fishfinder to my kayak; I never knew a transducer could blast sonar through the hull, and had no previous knowledge of the Nocqua battery :) That being said, do the visible fish icons appear when the GS4 is in Clearvu mode, or only in traditional mode? Thanks again for all your help!!

Glad you have enjoyed the videos and learned alot, the fish icons are only for traditional mode. In CV fish will mostly look like little white dots (It;s there swim bladders...air) that you see
