All you have to do is look at the current draw on the unit, it's listed in the specs. You can do this with any unit. I think the striker 4 is .180ah. Divide your lithium battery's AH rating by .18 and that will tell you how long it will run.
@1Cast1Fish
@1Cast1Fish 4 жыл бұрын
That would give you about 55 hours on my 10 amp hour battery...but that would be 100% drained. You do not want to drain them 100%.
@raducrv1
@raducrv1 2 жыл бұрын
producer will specify max current in the specs. for example, on my lowrance elite fs9 it is specified 2A, but when i measured it, only with the sonar function it was around 0.3 A, huge difference. So in the end, as usual, it depends :))

Ok... but it’s going to draw a lot more if you’re running the transducer and activity using it. But I imagine if it can statically last for 33 hours on a 10ah then it can probably manage an 8-10 hour day with a 5ah
@1Cast1Fish

5 will definitely last a long while and get your through the day. I did have transducer active for this test, so it made it as realistic as I could given the circumstances. I was shocked how long it lasted, it still had juice left, I just set 10V as my limit.

listen, I have been using this fish finder for years ice fishing and kayak fishing, fresh and salt water. My $20 12V 7AH lead acid battery lasts at least 12 hours. Eventually they get corroded or loose their capacity. I fish alot and i have had my current battery for 2 years and it lasted running almost constantly for 12+ hours in 10-20F air temps today. And it will probably be due for replacement soon. I dont think you can justify the high cost of using a lithium battery for this...they dont weigh that much... not sure if it is different for boats and whatnot. Just my 2 cents

@@1Cast1Fish thanks! i got the yak attack one (10 amp hrs) with charger and bag because i had NO idea how much id need looks like way overkill and pretty pricey at $129 but i guess ill only need to charge it every few trips and maybe ill add usb poets or running lights some day. what im actually worried about is ill have to unplug the transducer and power cables every time for storage outside (upside down on a wood frame under two tarps- just no room at all in the garage) - will all that plugging and unplugging cause a problem?

No just be carful with the pins and I recommend some dielectric grease at the Connections...it helps make them slide together easier and keeps corrosion and moisture out. @@raknin I would be a bit worried with the 11.2V only, the fish finder is designed to run above 10V, so 11.2V does not leave much room as it drains, especially with only 2.2ah. I would look for a 12V battery, this will help better protect the fish finder from low voltage.
@SilverShadow2LWB
@SilverShadow2LWB 5 жыл бұрын
Just so that you understand the chemistry of your lithium iron phosphate battery, 10 volts is the absolute minimum voltage you want to take it down to. You will start decreasing the battery life by doing this on a regular basis. All the various lithium chemistrys to not like to be discharged regularly to below 20% capacity nor do they like to be charged to more than 90% full charge. You can prolong the life and the total number of charging cycles by not overworking your battery. They also do not like to be fast charged. An overnight slow charge is healthy for them. I would not recommend that you take SLA batteries down lower than 40% charge or else suffer a decreased life of the battery.

@@1Cast1Fish Just bought the garmin as well as ordered the battery pack you like.....but the 4 not the 10 a/hr to save $ and since amazn doesn't have any 10's available. Myself and many other locals close to the 'hotspot' on the lake go to lake Simcoe here in Ontario Canada for whitefish which opens Jan 1st. No ice yet but past experience is most fish outside when word gets out re safe 1st ice. Staying mobile and the 2 fish limit has many catching and releasing many (one guy got 23 one day). So 1st ice will bring guys out in droves going as light as possible (no snowmobiles/atvs but on foot with back packs or pull sleds for gear. That's why it would be great to know battery life since for sure it'll be somewhere under freezing temps on the ice. Oh and BTW I'm getting old and crouching down viewing the finder at ice level is tough so I got my inexpensive old camera tripod with those adjustable legs and made the Garmin attachable to the tripod platform. Now I can sit in a folding chair watching the screen or simply turn the tripod crank to raise it should I want to stand and fish.

Yeah, I didn't really know what I was looking for when I got my Garmin striker 4, so I got one of the lead acid types. I never let it get below 12.3v so I really don't know how long it would've lasted. I got a good 12 hours out of it usually before it got around 12.3v though. Especially with my idea which is more of a two battery charger that is gutted and hacked to be a power supply with two batteries ran in series to 36v with voltage buck down converters set to supply a constant 12v supply to various output connectors. Such as a usb and 12v banana style clips. My Ryobi batteries are basically free to use... I have a crapped out charger... I only need the buck converters which are 3 for $10. 1Cast 1Fish I was too, our Lowrance is hard wired to an Exide 12 volt marine battery lol but originally bought an SLA for it but will now use for a head light going in to the marina

I chose the lithium Ion for the kayak because space and weight are important on a kayak...the footprint is very small.

1Cast 1Fish awesome, I bought the SLA thinking of not running down the starting battery but installed 2 batteries one for starting and second for electronics so Sla just sitting there and do need a head light and have a 1000000 candle power light I can use with it instead of wiring a head light. Yes for a yak you'd want to keep it light as possible

Trust me I know...I got some good gear since then, so no more crappy audio. I hope to redo this test at some point.

But lithium battery costs more than the garmin itself!

You are right...but there is a lot more to it for me and most others. Some examples are as follows...I can use the battery with splitters to run 2 or more devices at once...such as fish finder and GoPro. I can also use it to charge my phone, charge GoPro batteries, or run any USB devices. It is extremely versatile.

Did you have the transducer on the striker and having the transducer working. If not then your video was useless as all it showed was the power consumption of just the LED screen. So most likely a useless video.
