Six months ago I bought a factory reconditions Vivoactive 4 from the ‘Factory Outlet Store’ for around $125. Has a 1 year warranty, arrived without a scratch, in perfect condition and has functioned flawlessly. Started walking 100 yds a day and now up to 4.7 miles 4 days a week. Love that I can keep track of my heart rate, pace (miles per minute), total miles per week etc. So glad I bought it.

I have to say I have only had experiences with Fitbit. I picked one of these up for Christmas and I am loving it. The steps and heartrate are very active. It is easy to use and I find that I don't even feel it on my wrist when I am sleeping. I get about 5 days of batter use and that is with notifications and Pulse O2 on.

I haven't read the whole review yet but here are a few things I hate: - no hike by default and even by adding a custom workout you cannot rename it. (you can download some 3rd party apps like BF Hiker) - no resume menu (with resume later or save later) - more annoyingly an auto or manual paused activity will be ended after 15 minutes without prompting you - barometer is only for stairs climbed - if you turn out 24hr HR monitoring it'll be turned off for activities so you'd have to turn it back on every time Other than that a great watch on the edge of sports and everyday lifestyle.

Yeah, definitely some purposeful feature differentiation there (as hike and resume are offered on higher end units). That said, the barometer is used for workouts too.

Great review. One thing worth mentioning for Vivoactive3 users is that (as far as I can tell from the documentation) the Vivoactive4 requires a button press to go into the settings menu. This may seem like a small point but my current Vivoactive3 only requires a long SCREEN press, the watch went into settings mode by accident and watch faces etc changed so often that I had to use the lock function instead. Which is almost worse as any button or screen touch then puts a padlock symbol right in the middle of the screen usually obscuring the time!!! This makes the 3 very annoying to use and probably that change alone makes the 4 a worthwhile upgrade.

As long as you modify existing animated trainings, you will still have the animations afterwards... Just duplicate an existing training, add your own favourite positions and dlelete the others after...

I just can't get past the touch screens. I'm not into it so much, and wish they would have provided their usual 5 button layout as an additional option. It's the reason I've yet to ever consider to  Watch as well. I love the quick button workflow. And I don't care for music so much - which is a hugely popular feature. Thank you for the review. Very informative. I've had a vivoactive HR that has suited me well for the last handful of years. One thing I didn't like for cycling was that it didn't have audible alerts like the edge device that I had before it. I didn't see audible alerts in the specs. Are the only alerts on the vivoactive 4 still vibration?

I find the reliance on Spotify & WiFi annoying. Can any competitor allow me to download a Podcast and send it to the watch without the need to use WIFI or Spotify directly via Bluetooth? I find I can only update my watch at home because the WiFi setup is quite clunky

I can't seem to get an accurate HR reading whilst fast walking. I've tried using Cardio and it will give me 170bpm which is inaccurate. I then try the Walk activity and its 88ish. Any pointers on getting an accurate HR reading? I'm considering another watch if this is a common problem with this watch.

Yeah, the biggest things I'd do is: A) Ensure the strap is tight, though not wrist-blood-restricting tight. B) Ensure that the watch has a 1cm gap between your wrist bone, you definitely don't want it on that. C) Try the other wrist, but also try the inside of the wrist. Sometimes that makes a difference. Sometimes, at the end of the day optical just doesn't work well on certain folks. :-/ Good luck!

For instance, for cardio can I simply press start and then stop when I finished my workout, however, I don't seem able to do so with strengths. when I press start, it gives me a series of exercises to follow. Bought one of these for xmas. Not so sure the battery is preforming as it should, I blame the dam flashlight which I would love to delete if possible. This video needs to be broken done in to smaller pieces with a bit more detail on each section. Especially on how to set it up to get the best battery life... Maybe you've already done that. Haven't looked through the rest of your vids yet.

I was about to go out and buy this watch however just saw news reports that the garmin connect app and backend data management has suffered some pretty major issues in the last couple of weeks, and that has put me off a bit. have these problems been resolved and how concerned are garmin users going forward? Yup, you can just hit regular pause. There isn't a 'resume later' button (like for an overnight stay), but for 20-30 mins, regular pause is all good.

For your needs the best product will be forerunner 945.. Vivoactive and venu have almost the same battery performance as galaxywatch 2 and slightly better than galaxywatch 3.

I have this watch and wanted this model so that I could exercise without my smartphone and enjoy music. I don't like the music feature on this device at all. Slow, buggy syncing. Playback controls that frequently stop working entirely. Convoluted connection controls for pairing with phone and wifi. All the other features seem great as an entry level fitness watch but it feels like the music function still needs a lot of work to be a user friendly experience and is just not worth the headache as it currently stands.
