Garnt likes good concept shows, not how good the show is. I can kinda relate, going back to his Re:Creators video, the concept was super fun and interesting but not executed perfectly. I still found it fun and hype when those moments happen, especially near the end with those fights.

Oh man, that's exactly how I felt about Re:Creators. However, instead of liking shows that have interesting ideas and but don't execute them well, more often than not, I end up disliking them more because of "what could have been". Re:Creators was particularly bad for me, because the show sucks real hard and barely explores the initial concept and the meta-narrative is more of a gimmick and a very weak attempt at emotional manipulation with the main villain.

The books are definitelly better explained, and have more ideas that are explored far better, and are more consistent in their sci-fi elements. HOWEVER, all the characters in the books are all dry as hell. Not to say that the show characters are amazing, but at least they have some substance. What we have in the books alone would not make for a good viewing experience for the general audience.

I like how Garnt says he won't spoil the show and straight up jumps to the BIGGEST TWIST in the narrative. 'What' is The Dark Forest is a concept that is only revealed at the end of book two. As someone who read all three books, I think the show did a good job at adapting the concepts introduced in the novels and implant into a more hollywoodian story with hollywoodian characters. The chinese novels have very poor characterization that would not translate well into a high budget international TV show. They messed up some of the larger ideas, but overall, I think it's exploring the larger concepts of the novel quite well even if it's not being a faithful adaptation. The best part of the novels are the ideas and concepts explored, rather than character journeys we follow.

The big look up at the sky scene was terribly translated to the show, the entire show is a travesty of an adaptation of a very smart book. It’s also the culturally appropriated and most white washed adaptation I’ve seen in some time.

The problem with 3 body problem, is that the source material heavily relies on knowledge of chinese history, in order to make sense of the VR elements and people's decisions in time. The show changed the main plot location to suit a western audience, and it suffered as a result

@grantlauzon523711 күн бұрын
The 3 Body show has bad pacing because it tries to setup the plots of the other 2 books in the trilogy at the end of the first season. The first book ends shortly after the boat scene. Book 2 and 3 start at the end of the first book then have hundred year time skips. The pacing in the books is slow and nothing makes sense until the very end of each book. That, and books 2 and 3 are twice as long as the first book are why they setup their stories which killed the pacing at the end of season 1. Many people will say the Netflix show is a bad adaptation of the book. I would say it's a bad adaptation of the first book but a great adaptation of the series.

Three Body Problem was such an ungrounded, high-concept, kinda goofy what-if scifi idea that wanted to take itself super dramatic and seriously when it could've benefited from a bit of levity in its narrative approach. Trying to tie communist China to space aliens sending puzzle-solving VR goggles to scientists was not the eureka moment that the show thought it was.
