Even when you are bummed out or frustrated there is still a deep positivity that runs right through your videos. I think your fundamentally positive spirit is part of what makes the new videos all so enjoyable.

Ive had a perfectionist attitude since i was a kid thats recently turned into a fear of trying anything new as i knew i wouldnt IMMEDIATELY get it perfectly. You're helping me realize failures are a part of life and are what we learn from. I dont fingerboard or skate, but these look dope! Once i get paid if there's still a rail left I'm definitely buying one. Just to have as a reminder that even if i think i messed up other people could find it awesome.

*welder here. Especially for TIG, use that tiger disc to clean the material, get it nice and shiny. Also pull what you “ruined” out of the trash. It’s metal. You have a grinder and welding machine. It can be fixed!
@diegoley77004 ай бұрын
This* never Tig weld without cleaning the material first. If you want to be sure after the tiger/flap disc hit it with a wire wheel and some acetone to get any lingering debris out. But you may not need to do that depending on the use case.

You didn't clean the metal. That's why it didn't weld. Yes plasma cutter doesn't need massive cleanup but surface of metal should always be sanded or grinder back to get the oxidized oily surface off the metal for nice welds. Prep everything

Yes take off the mill scale. (Black coating on steel)
@GarrettGinner4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice dude! I actually did use the angle grinder to properly prep some of them to see if that was the issue, and oddly enough it wasn’t (which I really thought it would be). It turns out I was using the wrong cup size, so I switched from a 4 to an 8 and that solved all my problems. Bummed I didn’t think to try that sooner.

I know you've figured out what was causing the issue but as a just-in-case idea I was thinking since you're painting them anyway you could use some automotive body filler (the type where you mix two parts together and it dries as hard as a vicars...) that stuff should fill any little issues and with a coat of paint it would just blend in.

I would say add some “graffiti” to the blemished ones. Then with the chipped paint they would be considered “weathered” Also each one would be unique and people might like that too. I totally understand getting frustrated when a project doesn’t go how you planned. Wish I could give you a hug 🤗. I’m glad you shared this though, it will help others. 🧡🖤🧡

I think you can improve your quality by getting a better Solution for the painting part. If you hang the rails e.g. on little wires, you can paint them without flipping and reach every section. If you want to go further, you can start an actual little paint booth and use your compressor to spray on paint. This should be cheaper than using spray cans, too. Another improvment could be using primer and a clear coat.
