Hello 👋 great video as always. My mother gifted me this expensive knife set and cookware over 20 years ago, I still have and use daily. I won’t ever get rid of it, the down fall is that there’s so many new and nice one’s out there that, I get tempted to buy new ones, but nope got to stay strong and not replace what doesn’t need replacing.

I saw a pedestal vase I wanted on a home tour video. Reverse image search found it on Etsy, but sold already. So I went to a pottery studio and made it! Now it's got a story.

Very inspiring! Thrift shops, antique shops and estate sales have helped me decorate this house with fine midcentury and Arts and Crafts ceramics, paintings, lamps and furniture. It’s amazing what people donate - or what families don’t want to inherit!

Good evening Garrett, Thank you so much for the very sensible vlog. Your choice of words are commendable, so much to learn from you every time. I totally agree with sofa, bed, drapery and kitchen things to be of quality at any time. Rest all we can cut the corners here or there. I had educated and worked extensively almost like 16/18 hours a day reading, researching all about interiors to put this house together, which yields so many compliments from different generations. However I totally agree to take the consultation from a designer which I took from 2 different people one exclusively for drapery and other for the internal and external paint choice and the floor choice, always the worth. PS : I haven’t met you then:( I met you when almost all of the house was done and I have learned so so much from you and had applied almost everything that you spoke about lamps and artwork. So a big thank you for that🙏 Arden 😍 You have a lovely weekend and see you soon🥰

Really solid advice….ty! I love art myself….a very long time ago when I lived at home, my mom had a way of renting (!) art. I thought it was from a museum, but I’m not sure 🤔. They were relatively large (3x4) pieces and impressionist types. I wish I had paid more attention.

Definitely don't skimp too much on the bed. Especially as you get older, your back will not like you if go cheap on that. As for the sofa, you may be able to find that at a quality thrift store, just keep in mind not all thrift stores in all locations are created equal. For example, I'm lucky enough to live close to a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, so I was able to get some furniture there. (My living room is small, so I can get by with a two seater sofa, aka, love seat, and was able to get a good quality leather one there.)

Agreed! Quality mattresses and bed linen are very important as well as having a high quality sofa.

HomeGoods is worth skimming for lamps. There's a lot of whack stuff in there, but the lighting section is usually pretty sane and has some gems around $40-60 USD.

My goal is to do a consultation with you this year. But I’ve got to get my house organized and put together a little bit better. I have an extremely modest small house, but I think that’s OK. Not all of us can live in luxury.

We did end up doing a cheap version of a seating arrangement for one room, knowing that we are going to have to replace it eventually. But that was for two reasons: (1) we weren’t sure our plan would actually work for the space (it’s a weird shape, and the scale sketches weren’t doing it justice), and (2) the better version will require something quite expensive and custom that just isn’t in the budget right now. So we currently have an imperfect but inexpensive alternative that’s going to last us for a few years while we work on the rest of the house instead.

😮 Yes love reverse image search. I'm building a house and up to lighting stage and i love quality chandeliers. i was gritting my teeth knowing what i wanted was sort of out of my budget. I reverse image searched the classified ads photo, the ad had little detail at all and no measurements. There were 2 x big two layer 19 globe maria theresa smoke chandeliers and 4 matching wall chandeliers by then finding them I worked out the exact measurements of what was being sold, as the guy selling was not answering. I got 8 thousand dollars of currently still available designer chandeliers from a high end brand for just AUD 400 total. The wife changed her mind after installing them just a year ago. When I realised what quality and brand name it was through a reverse image search, I moved quickly to purchase. Wow my purchase of 2024. You see the too low 400 dollar price tag seemed to point to that the 6 lights were acrylic not real crystal. I nearly missed my deal of the century! I've got them, and I'm tickled pink!!!

I love your videos but when it comes to carpets we are not on the same page. The real Persian rugs are so durable even the silk on silk ones and the best thing is if you vacuum them they look like new. You will not see that with cheap ones...at least not in Europe.
@GarrettLeChic12 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! I have always appreciated your support and respect your opinions. In terms of fine rugs, I’m all for them, I have some in my home. I am merely suggesting that people might want to consider what lifestyle the rugs might encounter. Even fine Persians while strong rugs won’t hold up well to kids spilling things on them regularly or dogs having accidents on them regularly. While they are durable, I think it’s fine for people to determine whether they want to expose expensive rugs to excessive wear and tear vs having something that might be a bit less less durable, but more cost effective while they are in phases of life where fine carpets might easily be damaged, stained or ruined. That would indeed be sad to see happen.
