S&box is pretty good for a game that is yet to release and probably won't until mid 2023 or later. Just hope people know that S&box is not a game that is finished and things can change in the process of it's development, and that Garry's Mod is basically a finished game.

I'd say late 2023 or early 2024, s&box needs a lot of polishing and that could take a good bit. Performance is horrible and considering how well optimized default Source 2 is it's slightly worrying, then again Garry has never been good with optimization so I'm not sure why I'm surprised.

S&box looks bad since it doesnt have valve assets to use (Except HLA), also S&box will be easier to code mods, so it will get ultra-realism animations, weapons ripped from other games, huds, etc... Very fast when it comes out.

I'm excited for what S&box has to offer in the future with the source 2 upgrade. I just wish it and the tools wasn't so exclusive still. Garry's mod by itself is fun but it's biggest strength is its community mods. Sandbox needs those if they want to really be Gmod2. And it really feels like they need more people with the mod tools in there to behind growing its future workshop so when it does come whenever it may be it can hit the ground running with a nice list of ready mods.

Knowing S&Box ins't planed to be like GMod (yes it uses the base concept), S&Box is meant to be a devtool like Unity or UE, also S&Box's Source 2 fork is in heavy development, we need to wait some more time to make a more fair comparison. I think S&Box would really start moving when Garry swaps Rubikon with Jolt physics or something else, so it would break free from the _Valve time_ XD

Judging from a few tutorials, porting things to Source 2 isn't that hard, S&Box still supports Lua as well. I get that he doesn't want a Garry's Mod 2, but Garry's Mod without the limitations of Source 1 would be a dream, why not take advantage of how well known Garry's Mod is? Otherwise it will take a miracle to surpass it.

In case people are concerned, sandbox is still in alpha/early beta. Sandbox is barely even complete, it's super buggy all around. I was able to get beta access and found that some game modes were super polished while others were bare bones. Keep that in mind as the game will likely not be released until very late next year.

i love Gmod, and i love the community as well, we are all used to it. and those memories, and that is why gmod can compete with S&Box. so lets face it, regarding the technology, source is old. the community is what is keeping it alive. everyone here is just complimenting Gmod, not much about S&Box. and im afraid of it turning into some sort of false sense of superiority, 'back in my days' 'no OG gmod feeling, its bad.' if you dont wanna move on, that is fine. and honestly i am not sure if i will play S&Box too. but dont degrade it like that, other people will be playing it. it is still not complete too. dont push away new technologies, new people, new platform, just because of nostalgia and community. please.

S&box is still in early development, comparing it to the latest version of gmod doesn't do it justice, maybe comparing it to early gmod versions would give a better perspective. But still a good video.

Gmod’s basic physics and destruction seems better to me. Even the particles. Altough graphics are more advanced on s&box
