The Garuda Purana describes the consequences of a person's actions and what happens after death. It says that those who follow the Garuda Purana's teachings achieve successful lives and find a place at the divine feet of Shrihari Vishnu even after death. The text also emphasizes that those who perform benevolent deeds attain salvation in the afterlife, while those who commit wicked acts are consigned to hell and subjected to various torments.
The Garuda Purana also states that for seven days, the soul moves about its places of interest, such as its favorite joint, morning walk garden, or office. For example, if the soul is possessive of its money, it will stay near its cupboard, or if it is possessive of its children, it will just be in their room, clinging on to them.
Given the profound significance of death and the afterlife in Hindu philosophy, funeral rites and rituals, known as ‘Antyesti’ or ‘Antim Sanskar’, are conducted with great care and reverence. One should ensure a dignified farewell to your loved ones. These customs aim to honour the departed soul, facilitate its transition to the next phase of existence, and support the grieving family.
In Hindu traditions, cremation is the most common method of disposing of the physical body after death. Cremation is a symbolic ritual that signifies the soul’s liberation from its earthly body and its transitioning journey into the spiritual world.
The element of fire, represented by ‘Agni’, the god of fire, plays a crucial role in this process. It is believed that Agni acts as a messenger, carrying the soul from the mortal realm back to its origin in the earth, thus facilitating its onward journey.
An essential aspect of Hindu funeral rituals involves the practice of Pinda Daan, the offering of rice balls to ancestors. These offerings are believed to nourish and satisfy the departed souls, ensuring their well-being in the afterlife. Ancestor worship is deeply rooted in Hindu culture, and that is reflected in our customs and traditions.
According to Hindu culture, the departed soul travels to the deity of death, The Yama, who is in charge of the last judgement. In this space, past actions and the ‘karma’ of the soul are evaluated, determining its fate in the afterlife. Based on the judgment, the soul may experience rewards or punishments in various realms, ranging from heaven (svarga) to hell (naraka). Once the soul has paid its karmic debts and experienced the implications of its acts, it is ready for reincarnation in a new bodily state, thereby continuing the cycle.
The observance of Pitru Paksha and Shraddha Paksha rituals for a year brings several benefits to the individual and the family. These include:
1. Financial Stability and Progress: The Shraddha rites are believed to enhance financial stability and prosperity in the lives of the descendants.
2. Acquisition of Wealth and Assets: Performing the Shraddha rituals is believed to facilitate the acquisition of immovable property and assets.
3. Smooth Business Operations: The Shraddha ceremonies are said to bless business ventures, ensuring smoothness in operations and progress in endeavours.
4. Worldly Lessons: The Shraddha rituals provide valuable lessons and guidance for navigating worldly affairs, leading to wisdom and success.
5. Spiritual Enlightenment: The observance of Shraddha fosters spiritual growth and enlightenment, allowing individuals to deepen their connection with the divine.
6. Education and Knowledge: The rituals are believed to bestow blessings for educational pursuits, enhance knowledge, and promote learning.

మన హైందవ సాంప్రదాయాలలోనే చాలా మందిని గమనించానండీ, వాళ్ళు శిరోమండనం,క్షవరప్రక్రియ చేస్తారు గానీ పిండప్రదానం చేయడం మా వంశంలో లేదంటారు. నాదో సందేహమండీ? పుత్ర సంతానం లేని నాలాంటి వాళ్ళకు కూతుళ్ళు కర్మకాండ జరుపుకోవచ్చునని విన్నాను, అలా చేయడం కూడా చూసాను కానీ.. ఒకవేళ అలా చేయలేని పరిస్థితుల్లో (అన్య మతస్థులై) వారు ఉంటే, మన సొంత బంధువర్గం వారు ఈ ప్రక్రియను చేయడంవల్ల గతించిన ఆత్మకు పూర్తి ముక్తి లభించదని వింటుంటాం ఇది ఎంతవరకు నిజమంటారు ? పాత రోజులలో గుర్తు పెట్టుకుని ప్రతి సంవత్సరం పూర్వీకులకు సంవత్సరీకాలు చేస్తూ ఉండే ఆచారాలు ఉండేవి ఇప్పుడు అవన్నీ పోయాయి. ఒక కుటుంబానికి ఉండే వారసులు గాని బిడ్డలు కూతుర్లు కొడుకులు మనవళ్లు ఎవరైనా కానీ ఎక్కడో ఉంటూ రాని పరిస్థితిలో కూడా ఉన్నాయి అప్పుడు ఎవరో ఒకరు కర్మకాండ చేస్తుంటారు నామమాత్రంగా. ఇంటి పేరు వారు సేమ్ కులగోత్రాల వారు కాకుండా వేరే వారు కూడా కొంతమందికి చేస్తుంటారు. కరోనా టైం లో కొన్ని బాడీలను ఎక్కడో పడవేశారు కొన్ని దేశాలలో కానీ మన ఇండియాలో కానీ అప్పుడు ఆ ఆత్మ ప్రయత్న లోకానికి వెళ్తుందా లేక భూమ్మీది తిరుగుతుందా ఇలాంటి అనేక రకాల అంశాలతో చనిపోయిన తర్వాత సరిగా జరగన టువంటి కర్మకాండలు సంవత్సరీకాలు జరగనప్పుడు ఆత్మల పరిస్థితి గురించి తెలియజేయండిమన పుణ్యమే సత్కర్మలు దానాలు మంచి కర్మలు మాత్రమే ఆ వ్యక్తిని మంచి లోకాలకు తీసుకువెళ్తాయి కేవలం
