The good die young, I was good mates with Wurzel, (Micheal Burston) from Motorhead, we grew up together, then he made it. I still remember him round at my parents place and my ma saying, "I like Michael, he's a lovely boy". Wurzel playing accoustic and me and Julian, building motorbikes, and my ma serving tea.

Both Moore (from East Belfast) and Lynott (A Dubliner, although born in England) were vehemently against the IRA, who at the time were murdering innocents left right and centre. The song does not take sides, but to claim its a Republican song is like suggesting God Save the Queen is the Irish national anthem.

I remember when I was younger growing up on the streets of Belfast I know we were fighting a war but this was our anthem, along with Jackie Charlton's anthem lol good times.
