Gary wasn't my first influence, but he was my biggest one as a (semi-pro!) guitar. He had a huge amount of soul. He influenced me with his passion and his tone - however his technique was beyond me. A truly iconic performance. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. Note the great Don Airey on keyboards, who is now Jon Lord's replacement in Deep Purple. Yes, I believe the guitar in the video is 'Greeny', the Les Paul that used to be owned by Peter Green. Gary sadly had to sell it when he was down on his luck. It's now in the hands of Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Gary is a great loss. I've also covered 'The Bluest Blues'... Oh yes, and I love Life of Brian, too! "She has a wife, you know..."

The best thing about this song is that the guitar is telling a story. She speaks, screams, cries and in the end she dies. And I think there's no one better in the world to do that on a guitar than Gary Moore. Not only in this song, but also the Prophet is another display of feeling and many other solos that he has in his career.

“The messiah” Is a synonym for hope. The song charts struggles and hardships from birth until death, with hope being the theme that ties everything together and pulls through all the pain. By the end, death awaits. All the disappointments in life are over. It is replaced by expectance and comfort in that the end arrives and that your struggles defined you. The Messiah came. It was you all along. It is everyone.

Gary Moore had more grit, passion, and emotion in his guitar playing than anyone has ever had. The fact that rolling stone magazine doesn't even have Gary Moore in the top 100 for guitar players is a complete joke! Gary is better than anyone on the top 100 list. They also totally blow it by ranking SRV at 12th and even more absurd is ranking Rory Gallagher at 57th. Gary, Rory, and Stevie are all no worse than top 5 all-time!

This was scintillating guitar work. @@TheThamesmen The essence of the guitar led instrumental are similar. Roy plays a Telecaster while Gary is playing a Les Paul. The Tele has thinner sound and lacks the heaviness and depth of a Les Paul. Roy's solo is mostly based in the melody and lacks the dynamics and soulfulness/feel displayed by Gary. Don't get me wrong Roy is no slouch on the guitar, but Gary's chops, arrangement, and soulfulness just takes the song to another level where only eagles fly.
