32:52 evidence of this is when MLP Salt Lake City happened at The Picklr. Most of the people watching didn’t even know who the players were on the Utah Black Diamonds, but when their matches were going the building was SO LOUD because people just like to have that connection to a “home team”

I've watched more pro pickleball than just about anyone on the planet, and I play quite regularly. Here are the ways I think PPA/APP/MLP can make pickleball look better 1) Different/close up court angles Other than the main camera and kitchen cam, there's not many coverages and angle. Having a ground level camera behind the baseline slightly zoomed will make pickleball look much more impressive, as well as cameras (not from the side like kitchen cam) but from a diagonal angle. The closer the camera view, the more impressive it looks. 2) During replays after a good point, have a zoomed out/drone shot of the crowd going wild 3) Having on court microphones to hear the trash talk and to hear what they're saying at the bench

As a guy from Jersey, can one of these marketing genuises explain why a team ostensibly representing New Jersey is named the "5's" and has a clown as its mascot?
@ZagadaDink
@ZagadaDink 4 ай бұрын
The “five” pays homage to team-owner Gary V’s favorite number 5. As for the clown, Gary “unveiled the official logo of The 5s, featuring Competitive Clown, one of the recently unveiled 15 new VeeFriends Series 2 characters.” VeeFriends are essentially NFTs curated by Gary and his team.

@@ZagadaDink thanks for the info. Kinda like the 76ers or 49ers without the historical significance or geographical connection. "VeeFriends" now that is funny. So bottom line, neither the team name nor it's logo have anything to do with New Jersey.

Looking at the NothingMajor podcast, it's 4 friends who recount stories, and it lets you see their lives and personalities. It's extremely entertaining and endearing. Pickleball still hasn't done anything like that. Granted these guys are mostly reminiscing, but if I went off of pickleball player posts, they are all boring AF.

If you want to translate watching the event live vs broadcasting it then hire a real sports DP and a sports director. I'm sure Boxcar are all nice people but it's not the same as the crew that films the Olympics or any other mainstream sports event. We have really bad directors who clearly don't understand the sport or maybe they don't know how to use the tools they have. Often we can't see the player serve or return because they are out of frame, we often don't see the point finish because the ball has travelled out of the frame. I don't think we have the right cameras and lenses. The lenses used are too wide angle and the image looks distorted and kind of fisheye. Hire some real pros and give them a budget that makes sense. It won't be cheap but if you are really hanging your future on media rights then how can you not invest in this kind of sports storytelling expertise ?? I think the current production reflects the fact that you are getting what you paid for.

Well written. I agree. The production leaves much to be desired. In addition to your critiques, my pet peeve is the fascination with changing angles from baseline to sideline midpoint. I wonder sometimes whether the folks producing these broadcasts actually watch, and listen, to what they produce.

I have a question…I’ve been playing seriously for about 6 months. A very athletic 65 year old. I was recently rated a 4.0. I’ve played with Selkirk Luxx elongated, Perseus, Mod TA 15, Scorpeus 14mm, Mach 2 Forza. Play best with the Mach 2. I want a little more power and pop. My strong suite is drives and drops. Any recommendations. I like lighter paddles.

question for the Picklepod: Did I read that each team has to release one player after this season? Or was it that they could only release one player maximum? The 5's look to be DOMINANT with those 4 clowns!🤡!!!
@DanCerveny
@DanCerveny 4 ай бұрын
It is my current understanding that each team must drop one player (or more if they want) at the end of the season. These players will form a new draft pool. There will be a new auction draft, just like the original draft before this season. As each draft slot comes up, teams can bid as much real money as they want for it. A real good team like the 5s, who may want to keep all their players, could drop Will Howells and then spend the money to redraft him. Another team might need improvement and try to draft a better player than the one (or more) they dropped. Another team could drop their original top pick because they don't want to spend the big $ (half of what they originally paid for them) to keep them. It should be pretty interesting.

Why don’t the pickleball tours keep the money they pay the players and have bigger payouts. That way it’s player based vs tour based. Just like tennis.

Too bad no swear jar. Coulda funded a cure for ALZ. Great pod all around. No talk on paddle restrictions, testing, how power limits impact the sport. Please don't do the WWE pyrotechnics intro crap!!! Ease of viewing is the key. I watch LIVE, then watch the re-play, and watch the edited re-cap. Pro jerseys will start looking like NASCAR

Pickleball is growing, I love playing. But, I stopped watching , it’s not a good product. Many problems…. Poor; production (video,announcers,referees,) all bad. Serving rules that can’t be enforced. Good cameras finally used but only on one court. Limited challenges, once you are out of challenges, the other team starts cheating ( AL & CP) are the best at that ! Salaried players who don’t care. Unprofessional league that will be bankrupt in 2 years. But the amateur game will get bigger & younger.
