This 2014 Dodge Pro-master transmission has 500,000 miles om it, and the problem was really just the converter. I open and teardown the unit. The vehicle was brought to me from upstate NY. All went well with the rebuild

@@randy1izationjust use a proper hardened impact rated bit with an impact gun. You are far more likely to strip out screws and bits doing it by hand with a ratchet. Also make sure to keep the bit aligned perfectly straight while doing it and apply some downwards pressure. Obviously if not use an impact for taking them out use a torque wrench to put them back in to proper spec.

No noise came from the transmission. It has park and neutral and no codes. I’m thinking maybe the splines in the torque converter may have stripped out. Do you think I’m on the right idea with the torque converter? And do you think I should do a rebuild right away? Or do you have any other ideas of what it could be? P0740 replaced the solenoid guessing. Made no difference. Whether code is reset or not has been working perfectly for 30,000 miles one year and 3 months. Noticed leaking lines. From KZbin used oil dipstick and showed fluid at bottom of safe zone. Just replace lines and filled to top of safe zone on oil dipstick. Was only slightly leaking on driveway. Expect code to return. P0740 calling around pretty much everybody went straight to average $4,000 rebuilt. Still maintaining 20 miles per gallon average that it always has got. Any input?

Dear Gary , great videos - Please keep sharing your knowledge. I traded in my 89,000 mi 2500 Promaster just after the Dealer rebuilt existing transmission. I tend to carry a lot of weight , all the time, but I creep up to 65 -70 mph and drive highway all day long. Is this transmission strong enough to purchase another promaster? This video gives me hope.

I had my transmission replaced with a remanufactured 62 te on a 2012 caravan 3.6. The line blew off and all fluid came out then it stopped. He replaced the lines then said was good. Now warranty is up but lines are leaking and since he did it ive been asking but basically ignoring me. I got new lines and clips going to replace this weekend but have a question. When going slow in traffic it feels like a manual. Like someone kinda slightly shifting wrong ( clutch to fast or slow ) why would it feel like its a manual taking off?

There are o-rings in the fittings, if the o-rings are bad the lines will still leak. After the fluid was filled back up, trans may need to be quick learned with a scan tool

@@GaryFerraro yea I had a Chrysler buddy to the transmission re learn. I'll be replacing the fittings this weekend, I test fitted the fittings on the new lines I have here and they click in and seem to seal tight with the o ring inside. Maybe tomorrow I can post a video on my KZbin of how loose my trans lines are before and after kinda thing.

You the MAN ! Really appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share it. Bless you. Question; I recently got a 2011 Caravan with 335K miles - amazing condition. TCC solenoid was bad, replaced it with filter and fluid. Old fluid look very good and magnet had a light coat of fuzz (looked good). It seemed to me that the pan seals were factory (never serviced?) After solenoid replacement, the TC chatters on engagement. I added friction mods with limited improvement. In the last 2k-3k mile the chatter has increased and now I detect slip w/ chatter at high load in 5 and 6th. I suspect TC clutch. I'm satisfied with not changing the trans but plan on a TC replace. The question is should I change the pump? I hear a light whine even with the new filter in neutral and light rev - sometime I'm not sure I can hear it. I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

I believe what your saying is when the car gets hot it stops moving, you shut it off for a few minutes and restart you can move til it happens again. If this is the case your filter is clogging up probably because something is coming apart which may be the torque converter

get new pump o-ring and gasket, new OE filter and gasket. If it's an empty case you will have to switch over the low piston and apply plate, the apply plate takes a gasket inbetween the case and plate. do not over tighten those 3 bolts, 40 inch pounds. Have you ever worked on a transmission before?

Hi Gary great vids! i made the mistake and didnt bring my 2016 PM into a local Indy shop and brought it to Dealer for a trans replacement. The factory replacement has been a nightmare. within the first 500 miles I needed a new Trans cooler, and After about 2000 miles it started to have a problem were it shifts from 1st into 2nd very hard, and then gets suck in 2nd gear and will not upshift. Sometime pulling over and turning van on and off seems to reset things but recently on a pretty hot day this technique didnt work. I got it towed back to dealer and 2 hours later i started it up and it shifted and drove normally around the block. I left it with dealer. They claim its possibly valve body? does this seem right to you? thanks Travis

Limit 62TE to 4 when in town traffic, good or bad idea ? intuitively I assume that the gearbox wears out with every gear change. is the converter less used if I choose that ? Manufacturers prefer a computer model where the car shifts 200 times and consumes one thimble less on a test run to show good results on paper. Not me. I prefer a simple gearbox that holds 250 miles. is doing 4-> 1 at each stop less violent for the gear box than doing 5-> 1? is there any way to find out which gear is engaged ? Thank's Gary for sharing your knwoledge :-) !

you may be using a little more gas and generating a little more heat, lock-up comes in after 4th i believe. In 4th gear the overdrive clutch is applied and it stays on for 5th and 6th gear
