Thanks Mark, I’ll be in touch. This winter’s project is to make my sailing yacht off-griddable and it looks like this unit is probably what I need.

Good video, but you could neaten up the install under the bonnet by using the spare fuse slot in the fuse box on top of the battery rather than going to the battery positive.

Fantastic video Mark! The more I see of this product, the more it makes sense! Quick question: in order to have a decent DC charging input, do you have to upgrade the stock vehicle alternator or is it good enough?
@ahoyleisure Жыл бұрын
Thanks Anthony. 🤙 Appreciate it. No there’s no upgrade needed. The inbuilt Clayton DCDC charger draws 45A or 500w. As you can see it tends to pull a bit more than that in general at just under 600w which is great. Here are the ratings of the different models. VW Transporter models. Great video Mark 👍🏼 An easier way to ground your DC OUT negative, would be to put a short link to your DC IN negative - saves you having to run 2 wires to the van chassis.

@MP66UKC What would be the benefits/drawbacks to this except for less cable used?

No drawbacks, just less cable and a neater install

Great video! Planning to purchase a vw transporter later in the year to convert and thinking this is the road I want to go down. Planning an induction hob rather than gas hob, more for space saving etc. Hopefully this unit can handle it. Was planning on having the ability for a couple of days off grid if need be and electrical hook up for any longer.
@ahoyleisure Жыл бұрын
Why thansk you. Glad people are enjoying it 🤙Yeah watch our test with a full days cooking - 3 hot meals with two induction hobs and it’s plenty. And if at a real push you are standstill in a spot for a few days and you need a top up you can just run your engine. It’s like driving around with a little generator in your van 😇

Hi Mark. Am just about ready to install the 2500 as supplied by yourselves. I'm struggling to get a definitive instruction on the C1 connection details. Ignition on and alternator running are not the same thing. Connecting to the ingintion on could enable charging of the Clayton battery prior to starting the engine. Access to an engine running/alternator running signal involves enabling a signal in the engine management system BCM code, I'm told.
@ahoyleisure8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the call Fraser. Yeah you are right, there is slight risk with ignition live over engine live but on the Transporter it’s a much easier install using ignition live. Note you do always have the jumpstart function in a Clayton if you ever did leave the ignition on. I’m going to do a bit more digging and come back to you.

Hey. Your videos were one part of taking the decision to get a LPS2. However, I got problems to start solar charging working. There's a parameter "self-learning start voltage" in the solar menu. It learns but only increasing the value. Now it is so high, solar charge never starts again. I can't change the value using the menu, so ... what is the trick here? Or is it just stupid software programming or maybe no-one uses solar with LPS2?
@ahoyleisure2 ай бұрын
If you go into solar and turn it off and back on it will reset it. Please note that it will need a minimum of 15v to start working.
@ThePan512 ай бұрын
@@ahoyleisure thanks for the quick answer, it worked. However that is a bit strange that it got so high that it doesn't start charging again. Would not be funny to reset C2 every day...
@ahoyleisure2 ай бұрын
It is self learning but it also has perimeters for protecting itself. So in the first few days as its learning or as its connected it may need resetting. As long as the watts are below 400w and the open circuit voltage is below 50v everything will work ok. Ive never had to reset mine other than after reconnecting wires etc and I've had mine for years now.

I ordered the power cable set from transporter hq. I have got it throught the firewall in to the cab and run it under the front seats. However, it is not long enough to reach the back of the van. Am i able to extend the cable, or will i need to rip out and purchase a longer cable? I have a swb t6.1.

I would to be safe Paul. Anything over 5m in length should be thicker than 16mm. It’s only the positive wire though Paul as the ground can go to a suitable place on the body work. Any questions at all give me a bell on 07905949435. I will let you off for not buying from me, you could have saved some 💰😉

Not sure this is a good instruction video. Not explaining cable size or better positioning of cables. Cables should be in conduit. This is why I see poor install burn down vans. Please if you don’t know how to install electrical don’t show others.
