Really appreciate how "go with the flow" you are in people's homes, no matter their situation. Obviously a very dangerous situation with a unit that hasn't been taken care of.

Did you turn off the gas to the furnace Theodore ? Here in Ontario we are obligated by code to turn off the gas supply to the appliance and make it inoperable. We must issue a violation tag, inform the residents and leave a copy of said tag with them. Send a copy of the tag to the utility company.
@bobboscarato1313Ай бұрын
I used to call Entex in Houston and report violations at once! They had someone come over within 1/2 an hour!

Not too often you see a cat who is that friendly. The dogs were happy to see a stranger too. That unit was so clean for being an older heater. Too bad the owner doesn't keep up with the filters for his renters. I'll bet the system and ducts are all filthy dirty by now as well. Ted Cook made a seasoned and quick diagnosis as to why the unit wasn't heating and lucky for the tenants and pets Ted discovered the CO rates are a bit too high.
@topher8634Ай бұрын
I've always called that limit the spill switch. I've seen them trip on real windy days, when no other problems are found. Given the shape of that filter though, I imagine it was running a little hot.
@bobboscarato1313Ай бұрын
All the dirt that bent filter was supposed to catch ended up all over the blower assembly; thorough vacuuming and cleaning to restore it to healthy life. Also have some wires accross return side of the furnace to prevent re-occurence!

Dumb place for the filter I had roof package units in Vegas. The filters were in the ceiling returns.

Enjoying your videos. Sure wish you were in my neck of the woods. It’s sometimes hard to find people who take their time and actually troubleshoot things and then have the knowledge to take the steps needed to solve the problem!

The place where I worked for 20 years had a furnace failure that was so bad that I could stick my hand through the holes in the heat exchangers. The boss had told me that he didn't think the heat exchangers were bad because there was no soot coming from the ductwork. The secretary had been complaining about headaches for about a week when I told the boss that I didn't care if the furnace wasn't blowing soot. I was going to check the heat exchangers because the secretary was showing classic symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. He was getting upset with me until I showed him a picture of my hand reaching inside the heat exchangers. Then he was nervous because he realized that he was only one severely cold day from possibly having a dead secretary on his hands. At that time of the year we only needed heat in the morning and she was already getting sick.

Good video. I just had to condemn my first furnace two days ago. Exact same situation, tripped limit, CO detected in supply. 30 year old furnace. I also went outside to make sure my detector cleared and tested again.

I bet that heat exchanger had a crack for a long time! Some horizontal furnaces made by Premier (they also sold under other brands) were notorious for cracks in their heat exchangers. Once I got a brand new replacement heat exchanger and when I got it out of the box It had a crack accross all four bays! Enraged was I.!!!

A new heat exchanger. (if available) The unit looked fairly clean. Most heat exchangers have a decent warranty, but do not include labor.
@danwittels5542Ай бұрын
First you need to find the leak. It will most likely be the heat exchanger. If that's the case, you could replace the heat exchanger if it's available for purchase.
@kevincampbell7276Ай бұрын
I know most of my customers are lacking common sense none of them hardly changed their filter and the ones that do stick a high efficient filter in there which is tight pleated and burns up the direct drive motor and a loose pleated one works perfectly like a true blue from Menards and the fiberglass ones are junk like having no filter you can see cars going down the road through them
