All languages, big and small, have their embarrassing secrets. Gaston Dorren, linguistic muckraker and author of Lingo, will reveal them mercilessly. He will show you how inefficient Spanish is, how immature French and how confused Dutch. He will explain why Norwegian was unneeded and German unlikely. There’s just one that he’ll praise, spoken by Europe’s most polyglot nation and not taken too seriously even by them.

Although the circumflex in "château" does have etymological value, its first purpose is actually phonological and indicates vowel length. The A in that case is slightly longer than a regular one as an effect of the phonetic reduction. It's more obvious in "âne" compared to the name Anne.

As an American: Thank you! We've seen nursing mothers before, but not nursing teenagers, and I'd really not want to have to look at that.

A bunch of boring deeply rooted bullshit. Not a single word about the Kartvelian origin of the world's etymologies. French - Gaelic, blablabla... What about the Basque endings in every second French toponym? Don't waste your time.
