Wrong wrong wrong, never use the "barrels" or any other mid part of your post as reference for your string level, always run your level across the top of your first post and then move your second post up or down as needed, if your "barrels" are off even 1/8 of an inch, your posts are going to be uneven, the wider your gate the bigger the problem.

my barrel was 1" off from the other post. I read your message prior to installing my gate but I forgot. no i have to lower the high post because gate won't latch. Doh!

IF and i mean IF you attach a post to a CMU wall, you ought to use epoxy and all thread. Those cheap ass wedge anchors will wear out in about a year
