how do you play with a ball in your team ? because every time one is in my team and dont outright carry i find the "missing" tank to really be challenging to compensate for, all the more when the other isnt a rein or sigma or orisa

In my experience, you either play dive or need really good call outs so the ball can finish off kills and let the team know to push while they are disrupting the backline.

So if what you're saying is you can't survive without a shield, maybe you can work on your positioning. Use cover: walls, corners, highground, other geometry. Don't stand in the open. If possible, play around a health pack. Another option is to play a mobile, self sufficient character.

I reckon lot of lower ranked tank players don’t really understand how to play without their other tank. In the same vein I imagine a lot of lower ranked balls aren’t the greatest at positioning or coordinating with their team, so there are probably a ton of reasons

As a dps u just wait and try and convert de pile drives that ball lands, as a healer u just forget about ball until he comes right next to you for heals, since ball is a pretty self sufficient tank. If ur balls feeds too much then it’s ggs go next :)

1. PLAY CORNERS AND HIGH GROUND IF U HAVE NO SHIELD. Pretty much every dive lineup is trash in low ranks (really on ladder in general) because the squishies try to peek shield comps and take unfavorable duels (or stand in main waiting to get run over) before their tanks go in. Its fine to spread out, mobile heros are great for peeling. High ground is especially powerful in low ranks because nobody uses it so u can solo carry if nobody clears u off, and if they do try to clear u off, now u gave your dive tanks an advantage where they can use their mobility to excel in a spread out teamfight instead of slowly but surely dying to a death ball faceoff. 2. Kind of an extension of 1, but coordinate your engagements with the ball. Slam does 100 damage and misplaced targets will not be able to hit u in most ranks. If u have no shield, then don't peek until ur tanks go in so that u can save your abilities and aim your shots for when they count, without getting focused down. Dive tanks are good at applying short bursts of pressure in specific places. U make space by confirming those eliminations. In and out; until you don't have to get out anymore. Stay alive. If ur ball slams or boops a target look to finish them off. A good ball will only displace targets in a way that his teammates can follow up on it, but u can work with a bad ball by looking for aggressive angles and high ground that allows you to follow up regardless of who or when your ball slams. *The key is not to peek too early. Teammates have wall hacks. If u peek from an aggressive angle too early u will waste abilities, die or get low hp, and maybe get forced/peeled out of your position before the ball serves you ur free kill(s). I know it sounds complicated but think like this: a widow that only body shots but that peeks after ball slams can probably earn a quick double kill. One dynamite slam combo and the whole team is dead with a little pressure. If u peek without teamwork, u have to hit the headshot to even get one kill, and then everyone looks at you and your screwed because u have no shield. The enemy is just about at full strength. U either relocate or repeek and die. 3. TAKE THAT DAMN SPACE I have watched unranked to gms where the ball is being chased all the way to the enemy spawn room by both DPS and an off tank. Only for his teammates to go "What the hell is our ball doing? Tank diff GG." Reins shield doesn't zap you if u walk through it people. Recognize when the enemy doesn't have the pressure to hold their space and try to push them out if it. Basically - walk forward. Same with monkey. If he dives Anubis point A he's making space for you to walk through the gates. Go find a position where u can actually get kills from on his next dive. Don't just stay there like u have an orisa. TL, DR. Play cover, preferably high ground, be safe and patient. Peek when the ball goes in, either to run to a good aggressive position while he distracts the enemy or to lay some damage/debuffs into his dive targets once u find said position. Rinse and repeat until u have a decent advantage and can free farm the rest of the enemies.
