It's really incredible that the entire show has such a coherent story considering how many times they intended to "end" it
@MindCaged

Yes, the writers were very good about consistency, I've read quite a few fanfictions that crossover with SG-1 and it's noticeable how hard it is to change earlier episodes without messing with later events, as they use experiences from earlier episodes to solve problems later. Like the episode where they learned that a power surge to the gate makes the wormhole jump to a different destination gate. Which was used several times in later episodes to solve a problem. That same episode gave them access to a second stargate on earth which was also key to several other plots.

So many shows yoy can almost always go “they meant to end the show after this season” and then the next season that re started theyre having to either go crazy to get back going or have such a slowwww restart

@@frankgesuele6298 I think conflict-focused stories do better when they kill a character you have become attached to. It cements the feeling of risk. If the good guys always manage to escape, you lose the feeling that they're actually going into danger. When you know someone has died, each fight gets dangerous.

SG1 was the only show that spanned the entire Golden Decade of Sci Fi, starting at the beginning and its finale effectively marking the end of the era. It's also a show that defined that era of Sci Fi, one that never took itself too seriously whilst still providing some of the most gripping drama there was in Sci Fi. For me it's one of the best shows ever made.

My wife never watched the series when it originally aired, but we watched it together a couple of years back and when Daniel “died”/ascended, she teared up and asked me “is he really gone?” And I said yes and she genuinely got choked up about it. I think the studio was quite aware of Michael Shanks’ magnetic personality but even I was a little shocked how hard she took it! Actually, just the opposite. They take themselves very serious which is why I love the show so much. I could watch and enjoy immersion without the need to be puled out of the experience by analyzing all the discontinuities associate with lesser more poorly written plots. When they came up with a solution, it was one that made sense. And without the need to "pull a rabbit out of their hat", to solve it. There were even times where they didn't always win, and good people died -- the two doctors for example. They did, however, pause from all the seriousness to just relax, let off some steam, and do some comedy writing to take a break. Not my a favorite episodes, but I understood the need to have some fun with the show every now and then.

@@truthseeker6532 Break! Guys, every show have its own lovers and the army of a fans. The strong side of SGx series is the fact that its events happens at our time, not in distant future, and the personages are "real" people, like ones around us. They do not wear an extravagant clothes and insignia, do not own Earth-made plasma guns and pocket-size nukes. And the knock-out punch was the participation of some actual persons playing their selves - Generals, scientists and so on. Someone said that the good sci-fi novel must introduce just a few "pure fictitious" things, while rest of plot must be realistic enough. And the SGx follows that "canon".

Life, family and personal events got in the way though, so it wasn’t until this year that I started to watch them, as I say, for the very first time. The bonus, is that for whatever reason and unknown to me, my PVR went on to record the entire Atlantis series as well, which the TV company ran immediately after SG1 ended. When Amanda Tapping had one more year on her contract she was sent to Atlantis as base commander. In one episode with Tesla she asks Colonel Carter if she has any romantic interests. Sam responds yes, but it’s complicated. This is owing to the fact, Jack, now a three star General and heading Homeworld Security after General Hammond finally retires and passes, is essentially her commanding officer. While most likely the President, the Joint Chiefs and a very few powerful Senators were aware of their relationship, O’Neill and Carter were both national heroes and vital to the safety of the planet, all was overlooked. If they did marry it was likely kept secret as to not interfere with the vital work they were both doing.

Still waiting with anticipation for the next stories in the franchise. My all time favorite Science Fiction series, bar none. I generally see Television as a worthless waste of life and time. Why not give Star Trek DS9 a go. Yes tge first few seasons are a bit of a slog but from season 3 on it picks up and all the characters in it develop and grow including many of the excellent secondary charaters. All Star Trek Series from the 60s, 80s and 90s are good but DS9 is the best. Strange New Worlds is very good too but its only had 1 season so far but its had the best first season of any Star Trek show. Normally they take a while to find there feet or like poor Enterprise they are just finding it when they are cancelled.

Regardless of the fact that SG-1 ended, they made it seem like there was no end, which is like what a circle (the gate) symbolizes: *infinity,* and the cycle of life due to its continuous nature, lacking a beginning or end; representing the interconnectedness of all things like cosmic consciousness, perfection, and the divine order of the universe.

One of the episodes in season 10 Cam Mitchell says all he needs is a good time travel story, and I have the sG1 trifecta. It was cool that Mitchell got that time travel story in continuum. This is a good video , concise and informative. It made me realise how much I miss the entire SG franchise. I've been lucky enough to lived through tremendous scfi stories from Dr Who, Blake's 7, all of the Gerry Anderson and Gene Roddenberry franchises. Loved Babylon 5 and Farscape, and many others. But none of them compare to Stargate SG 1 and Atlantis. For me, it's the development of the characters that is key to its success. While the scfi elements and story line were fantastic, I came to love the interactions that the characters had with each other , it's was just pure fun to watch. I have a deep and longing respect for the actors who portrayed them, and congrats to all the writers and production staff who made this the most wonderful television experience in my life.

I still think we were robbed the outcome of several SGU plot endings, and the series was highly underrated. Not many Sci-fi shows that broadcast on the Sci-fi Network last more than 2 or 3 seasons, especially after SGU's ending. Which was ironically unfortunate, considering the network had several really great shows produced and broadcasted in the early to mid 2010s.

Always liked how Unending had them stuck on a ship of course they solve it, but with Ben Browder being the one who "wants to get off" no matter what. A nice play on his character being stranded on the far side of the galaxy like he was in Farscape. This is both the joy and the curse of sci-fi and magic-based shows. Often the writers can't keep their own rules clear or precise and so eventually, nothing ever sticks. With alternate realities, time travel, and abilities that are too ambiguous to nail down, no one stays dead, and no true risk exists, except when they don't want to be bothered. They kill off Janet and it's "The End" but it only leaves the fans who love her pulled from the story knowing the only real reason they can't bring her back isn't because of the rules of that universe, but because the RL won't allow for it. So it gets ignored except by those who were never happy about the way it happened anyway. Same with Weir and Beckett and Daniel's wife and so many other deaths that stayed "dead" when others were lucky enough to be brought back using time travel and AU's.

Interesting, I've not realized this. Well this is a problem series have to address, unlike a movie where it has a start and an end a Serie depends on the ratings polls. The writters have to struggle with the narrative every season and make it coherent. In this case I think they (writters) addressed it perfectly. I would say that Startgate writters are among the best in TV history. Great video..!!

Like a lot of other fans, back when SG1 was very popular, I was on a few Stargate Yahoo!Groups. This was, for the most part, the only way, being in the UK, that we could get up to date information as it was happening. I remember several campaigns that the fans launched, one was trying to get Michael Shanks to reprise his role as Daniel Jackson after he "Died", and the other was when it was announced that SG1 was ending. I remember it being announced on a group that the SCI-FI channel had decided that after 10 years of Stargate SG1, they'd decided to "go out on a high with the show." That they were going to renew Stargate Atlantis for one more season, but they were going to concentrate on Battlestar Galactica from now on. Obviously, their latest baby, at the time. Which, as I was raised on the original, and because I was annoyed with how they'd messed with the characters and the show, and on hearing this news, being more than a bit ticked off about it, I didn't see it then, and I still have never seen an episode of Battlestar Glactica! But I do remember word going out that some woman at the SCI-FI channel was responsible to SG1's fate. The fans had found this out and had spread her work address amongst the SG1 fan base. The message went out to send her empty tissue/Kleenex boxes with Daniel's original message, "Thanks. Please send more!" In the hope that they would renew the series. I also remember hearing that despite the actors and crew being happy to continue filming and making a weekly show, the SCI-FI Channel said that they couldn't. Even though MGM had the movie rights to make the show, they didn't have the rights to sell the show to another channel. I even heard that the writers had asked The SCI-FI Channel if they could give them some time to tie up the loose ends for the fans, and they again said no. As The SCI-FI owned distribution rights and refused to either sell or show the series, even if MGM had continued to make the series. So, for various reasons, including to tie up loose ends for the fans, MGM made the movies, which The SCI-FI channel had no control over. But I also remember with smug satisfaction after cancelling both SG1 and Atlantis, their "baby" only lasted another season or so. It didn't have the longevity of SG1 or the potential that Atlantis might have gained after SG1 fans like myself started watching Atlantis when SG1 finished. It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since it started. My daughter was nearly two when it did. And I can honestly say thank God for this show and for SG1 fan fiction! Lol. As crazy as it sounds, SG1 Fan Fic helped me cope for a year when I nursed my Mum through bowel cancer, which, despite some setbacks, she survived. And funnily enough, more than 15 years later, it's helping me cope with her passing last year.

They definitely should've ended SG1 with season eight, it was a perfect ending for the show proper (the main enemies were defeated and the main-est character Jack retiring). They should've spun off the Ori story into a new show. That way, people would have been more willing to watch a "new show" rather than ignore it because they feel like they're too far behind on eight seasons to bother trying to catch up. 🤦 If they'd done that, the new show might have gone more than two seasons, and could have bolstered Atlantis to last a couple of more seasons, and maybe even helped the blech Universe last a little longer, and possibly even allow the franchise to survive until another spin-off. But alas, we'll never know, that reality is in a parallel universe we'd need sci-fi tech to find out…

I'm right there with you. The Ori could've worked as antagonists for SG:U (which while panned at the time, is still worth more of a rewatch than SG1 S9 and 10), yet not at the "power level" they had. The Tau'ri were so powerful after the Goa'uld and Replicators were defeated, there was no sane way to give them a worthy adversary. Instead we got the Ori whose power was so ludicruous, it was just pure magic. If an organiszation like the Ori had populated the vicinity of SG:U, they would've gotten away with being a lot weaker and more grounded.
