Gavin Creel, Tony Award-Winning Actor, Dead at 48

Gavin Creel, known for his roles in 'Hello, Dolly!' and 'Hair' on Broadway, has died following a short battle with a rare form of cancer called metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma. He was 48 years old. Bette Midler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Kristen Bell and more stars paid tribute to the late actor on social media, reflecting on the mark he made in the theater community.

This is so incredibly sad and resonant for me. I had cancer (also a sarcoma) in 2017, and I used to listen to the Hair soundtrack a lot during that time to raise my spirits when I felt exhausted and depressed. His voice got me through some very tough times when I was convinced I wasn't going to make it through. I grew really fond of him, and when I got the opportunity to see him onstage in Waitress in 2019, I felt so complete. I really wish I had the opportunity to tell him what his talent and career meant to me.
