In today's episode, Becket takes a look at an article by Rod Dreher in The American Conservative which alerts Christians to a new phenomenon of gay activists infiltrating the church in an attempt to destroy it. We as Christians need to be aware of wolves in sheep's clothing who attempt to destabilize the church in the name of love and acceptance. Will these activists succeed in destroying the Evangelical Church in America?

ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from Austin College in Texas, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.

I’m Hungarian and I lived in China for more than 5 years. It’s great to gather in house churches. Not so formal, genuine fellowship, people showed so much hospitality, an amazing hunger to know Christ and grow spiritually. Of course the police was after us so we always had a birthday cake ready, in each meeting just in case they would show up. My family and I returned home before the pandemic because I got pregnant with my third baby but the other missionaries were caught and kicked out of the country in spring of 2021. Our people there are surveyed and followed but they have so much joy and faith because of persecution.

My husband and I just became members of a new church. The process involved a class, an application, an interview by an elder, and our signing a statement committing to abstain from immoral behavior (including sex outside of marriage, etc) and giving permission for church discipline if we do sin in a big or ongoing way. The pastor is also saying he would rather be sued than compromise on the Word of God.

Wow, this is some next level spiritual warfare. It's just so ironic to me that (at least in my personal experience) the same types of people who are out here trying to persecute Christianity because of it's disagreement on homosexuality...are simultaneously posting in "solidarity" for the Muslim community who is being "discriminated" against. Guess how that religion feels about homosexuality too? People are lost and broken and confused. It's sad.

The problem with churches in the west in general is that they are preparing their flocks for the rapture rather than persecution. The idea is that God will not allow His bride to suffer. Many are going to fall like a house of cards once real persecution hits because they will not be prepared to defend our faith and/or suffer for the truth. I can’t imagine suffering as the persecuted church around the world is currently experiencing. I pray for courage daily and pray for true revival among believers.

I pray for the same! We must not live in fear! I grew up in one of those churches and believed it for a long time! When I tried to tell someone who I was talking to from the church I grew up in. He was so rude! He claimed I was not living in faith! Then he said I had wasted the time they spent on me!??! Really? What Christian says that? I told him that it's in the Bible and the truth is the truth! I do not live in fear! I know what is coming and I still keep my eyes on Jesus! The storm is roiling all around us we must take this stand. Btw this is a man I hadn't seen in 25 years and he was trying to say that he was a good man of God who read the Bible and I should trust him?!? NOPE! The Bible tells us otherwise! He was just rude and wrong! I still couldn't believe what he said to me and how he treated me. If all of them act that way! Wow! We are going thru Persecution even now! It's just going to keep getting worse! Keep the faith in Jesus alive! He gave so much for us! We must not let the fears of our death make us run. The PHysical death is nothing! Because if we turn from God's only begotten Son then we will damn ourselves to hell! We must keep the faith!

I don't think most churches in 'the West' are preparing for the rapture. That's a particularly American theology and only became a theology relatively recently in church history. The issue is, most Christians don't have a theology of suffering that allows for the Holocaust, for the number of church members that are child abusers and engage in domestic violence, are viewing pornography etc. Christians generally ignore the horrific things going on in their midst.

Truly appreciate this show. I love how you base everything biblically. My friend who believed himself to be a gay Christian, and even said he knows so much about how the Bible verses people use against homosexuality are incorrect use. That he has examined the meanings in Greek and Hebrew and claims that what we read in the Bible today is wrong because the translation means differently. And that always rubbed me the wrong way to say that God has some secret revelation that only people who can read Greek can understand? He touted himself the authority of the subject. For a while, we always "agreed to disagree" and we stayed friends. However, this changed in January 2021. We had a spirited debate about a lot of things. He even said he appreciated our friendship because we could be real with each other, even when we disagreed. I am not sure why suddenly when I decided to engage the topic of his homosexual beliefs and life that suddenly I was this horrible, evil person to him. The point that in a completely different subject, he threatened me. Well, I have two young children, and I had to stop the friendship there because I couldn't risk whatever his threats could mean. My husband also agreed it was the right move. I still pray for him and wonder about him. I don't believe in coincidences with God, so I do think I must have hit a "nerve" with him on our last discussion over his lifestyle. I always tried to say things in love to him, but this time he was unwilling to hear it. All that to say, I know people who claim Christianity and claim to be homosexual and that you can live that life and have both. I also remember your discussion about how that is impossible. I even tried sending him links to your discussions. He said he knew about you, but he essentially believed it was destructive thinking. At any rate, just know you are appreciated for all you are doing. And I do believe the persecution is happening even now. I am sad about my friendship and what was, but it became too dangerous to keep that friendship with his threats. I hope I am not wrong in that thinking.

There was this gay couple that started coming to our church a few years ago. We're a methodist church. Pretty conservative, but when they wanted to be involved in things like drama and music, we were excited to welcome them. We wanted the extra people. They only lasted a few weeks. Apparently one of them didn't think we were bigoted enough, and they couldn't cause a ruckus or rift. That's the grapevine story, any way.

Also remember we are a light in the dark world and they hate to have their perversions shown in the light! They prefer darkness! They prefer immoral people like them! The fact is Jesus called us to show love to our enemies! No matter what they say you are not the problem or evil one. They claim they want tolerance. Yet they won't give us that? Why? I was raised Roman Catholic and after many years away from the church, I began to attend an Episcopal church in my area. I enjoyed the fellowship and became an active member (note, I use the word active, not activist). Once again, circumstances began to change and I took a "break." Several years later, I returned and suddenly the term "social justice" was everywhere. Also, the idea that any and everyone was free and entitled to receive communion. I questioned this on the basis of this marginalizing one of the seven sacraments but I was quickly dismissed and I could feel the chill in the air. This particular church became a center of left wing political beliefs; older members left for more conservative churches and my husband decided to dig in and accept a vestry position to exact change. It was horrific; our lives were made miserable and we left feeling very discouraged. Several years later, I was born again and we are seeking a new church home now that the pandemic is waning. I think these disruptors weave a web of sin over a long period of time and they cater to and bring in like minded members. We have to stand strong; the world is a scary mess and Jesus is the only Light that will lead us out of it. Thank you, Becket.

I would like to share a brief testimony. Last year, one day after spending a long time in intercessory prayer, I was attacked with something like sleep paralysis at night, but I kept going in and out of consciousness against my will. Something was sitting on my chest and my phone light kept flashing. It was truly horrible and terrifying.I called out to the Lord, but nothing changed. It kept going on for a while. Finally, it let up enough for me to turn on my bedside lamp. I’m sorry to say that I was so hurt that the Lord allowed that to happen to me that I was angry at Him and kept saying” How could you let that happen to me?!” ( I did apologize for my attitude when I calmed down) So finally He explained this to me recently. He said “The time when I toyed with your affections, you called out to me, but I didn’t call back. I wanted to see what you would do if I wasn’t available as I always had been.” I said, “ I got hurt and angry because my need for you was desperate and you didn’t show up” He said “I showed up when you thought you were going too deep to return. Because you need to understand that in this life there will be times when you won’t see me or feel me, but I am there. You must rely on me at ALL times, even when I seem far away. Even to the point of death. Then my glory will be displayed in your life. The wickedness of this world is great, but you must stand firm in my love, if not you will never know my greatness for what it truly is.” The scriptures He gave me are Proverbs 8:20,21-“I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the path of justice. That I may cause those that love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries.” And Proverbs 4:18-“But the path of the just is like the shining sun- that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.”

Thank you for sharing this testimony! I went through similar experiences. Each time were various circumstances with different settings, people involved, time span, etc. All of them were life lessons I needed to go through to truly understand the message He was giving at the time. Yes some were HORRIBLE and I would get very emotional, depending on how long it lasted. We serve such an awesome God, He knows us so well! What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for others. I was a very stubborn, arrogant person for a long time until the Lord "worked on me". I can honestly say I am a better person because of all the mess I endured. It humbled me GREATLY! I used to have it ALL together(so I thought), looking back I don't know how people put up with me!! It's all a process and as long as we listen, learn, obey and spread the Good news of salvation (even our testimonies) we are on our way to becoming what God originally had in mind. And all things DO work out for His glory! God bless you in your continued walk with our Lord

I am still in a liberal church which flies the rainbow flag proudly, however I am so glad I can recieve strong teaching here. I am looking for another church at the moment, which is difficult, I am based in Cambridge UK and I would say 99% of the Church Of England Churches are gay affirming here, I am having a meeting with a Romanian Orthodox priest next week, as I know they are more traditional. Becket- you are my hero because you have been persecuted for your faith and the joy of Christ is evident! I’ve been reading the four accounts in the four Gospels where Peter says he will go to prison and even lay down his life for Jesus minutes before he denied knowing Jesus three times. My prayer is I too will not deny Jesus for fear of losing my comfortable lifestyle.

I left my women’s study because a woman started to attend a few years ago. Her partner attended the Sunday church service. Although our pastor clearly speaks out against all sin including same sex marriage. She admitted her struggle the group one time when I was not there. I specifically ask the leader should we talk with her. She told me we are all sinners. What shocked me is when our small group leader had her lead our group. This small group leader is a former missionary. I talked to her and her husband about my concern after this woman justified her lifestyle a few times during the study. My small group leader basically called me homophobic. I contacted a pastor of the church who was alarmed and confronted the the leader of the entire group. The church leaders didn’t know what to do and looked the other way. I eventually left the group. The person just recently moved due to a job advancement. Some of the ladies wonder why I left and my small group leader has gone to another church now. The women’s leader doesn’t really talk to me anymore. The Lord has moved despite the fear of our leadership.

Thank you Becket for doing another great job. Even though I'm a Christian I am still frightened by all of this. Anybody remember singer Anita Bryant? She was basically blacklisted for her Christian beliefs. And there is a interview on KZbin with singer Debby Boone. She says regarding homosexuality for years she thought the "old" way but now thinks the "new" way. Of course she is wrong because the bible is the same yesterday today and forever. Praying the church's never waver and come up with ways to protect themselves.

You can usually tell that something is off. We had a transgendered person ( male to female) that started coming to my little church in Burbank. It was pretty obvious that that person was a transgender. We moved during early covid so I don’t know what happened. However, that was an extremely conservative church. ( pastor from masters university).

Hi! Jane here. Thank you for this informative program. What a sad situation that the church is being tricked by the "community". Of course there will be friction between those who turn their backs on God with their lifestyle, and those who love God. I feel like the gentleman with the cake shop might want to sell good quality, freshly baked sweet rolls and donuts so that he can continue his witness to the community, but then decorate cakes for word of mouth customers that he knows, from his home. I think you said that Gen Z is less likely to attend church? I pray they will seek the Lord, none the less. I am 64 years old, and fell in love with Jesus at 5, and heard God call my name at 6. I have always loved church but I miss the hymns that I have sung my whole life, and the music can get very loud, and because i am having health struggles right now my husband and I stay home. We fellowship with other believers as we can, and worship the Lord daily with our lives. Yes, things are complicated right now, but let's all stay close to the Lord, and in His word.

Thanks for discussing this important topic, Becket. Our church addressed this issue over 10 years ago after our pastor saw the tea leaves and got legal counsel on how to protect the church. We had to update the church Constitution to spell out EVERY SINGLE BELIEF that our church held (along with scripture verses) so that in the event of an incident as you are describing, the church Constitution would be our legal protection. Too many pastors are not engaging in these cultural issues and as a result, they fail to protect the flock which is one of their main responsibilities. Also, you mentioned a well known pastor who has become gay affirming. Wouldn't it be wise to share who this is especially if he has publicized his position? We need to call out heretics, especially when they announce their heresy. As always, I greatly appreciate your ministry. 😊
