I'm surprised that no one in the comments seems to know that the gay-hating church was based on the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, and the old preacher on its pastor, Fred Phelps. The actor even looked like him. Phelps allegedly had a change of heart in 2013, was excommunicated by his church, and died in 2014.

I doubt that sob had a change of heart... He was likely kicked out because his kids wanted the cash and couldn't wait for him to drop dead

Cheering at the funeral of a six year old kid who died of AIDS?! The hell is wrong with people? 😡 (I know this is fictional, but I'm guessing that's based on something that actually happened.) The AIDS crisis was sad all round. I read an article written by a gay man who lost most of his friends to this disease. Then you had people being infected by contaminated blood transfusions, another layer of tragedy. It did scare people, my mum grew up in the 80s and has talked about it. It's less of a death sentence these days, thankfully, it can be controlled.

The reverend infuriated me, but wisdom with age (or maybe it's just apathy) people like him, it just saddens me to see someone poison themselves willingly. Leviticus 18:22 ~ You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination Leviticus 20:13 ~ If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. Jude 1:7 ~ Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Romans 1:26-28 ~ For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. Mark 10:6-9 ~ But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” He is just some bible verses completely dismanteling your point.

@@emilfrederiksen.1622 the Bible has been notoriously known to be poorly translated. Considering English is not an old language at all, it probably has been through hundreds of translations if not thousands over the last 2000 years. Some of those times being even orally and scribed into text. Makes total sense that the Bible isnt word for word of what some Godly figure or Holy Spirit is morally guided by.
