The hike begins in a car park just before the Dam but beyond the main Ben lawers car park and is on a fantastic path all the way to the summit. Camped 20 metres off the summit and spent the night in the Southern Cross 1!

Hope you all enjoy this one folks. Revisited a Munro called Meall nan Tarmachan on this trip. Unfortunately never had much luck with the weather but had fun cooking the meal. As I’ve said recently there will be more cooking in the winter months once the snow starts coming down on the Munros again. As you will see on the video I had a nightmare while cooking this meal.

Next time use food bags, then put the meat in the bag to coat it. Definitely less messy. But this was a great video, funny and interesting. I like chicken stir fry so you could try that. It’s an easy cheap meal and you can do all the prep at home and put it in food bags ♥️👍

Thanks for your comment Rosie, Someone else suggested chicken stir fry and it is a meal I have made in the house before so will probably do a better job of it. I’ve learned the hard way to use food bags in the future and glad it had been brought up in the comments. ATB Gaz

What an epic video! I really felt for you with the wind blowing everything around, your frustration was palpable as well as audile. Well done fir persevering through and delivering your meal... I guess you need to when you are hungry. End result looked pretty good to be fair, much better that it was shaping up to be at a few points. That was a super ambitions dish to cook on the hill. I guess one pot meals would be good? Sausages and onion gravy maybe? Rice, with vegetables and spicy sausage? Please, please keep up the cooking though... practice makes perfect

Another brilliant vid, I quite like the clag all around, makes it very atmospheric. As for the cooking segment...erm yeah, think that was a bit ambitious, given your resources. I suggest that you make spag bol, you can get all the stuff in morrisons, and to make it easy you can get a pack of pre chopped onions and mushrooms, small pack of mince, some ready cooked spaghetti and a small jar of bolognese sauce. fry the mushrooms and onions, then add the mince and cook it till it browns (another way of telling mince is cooked is that it will start to squeak during cooking..seriously) then add the jar of sauce and simmer for 20 mins, you could probably just heat up the spaghetti in the jet boil, the ready cooked stuff takes about 2 mins in hot water, so do that once the mince is cooked, then chuck the spaghetti in a bowl and chuck the mince over it..very tasty dinner, with very little faffing about in under 30 mins.

The food looks banging to be fair! I'm trying to do more at home and panic enough there, never mind on the hills. Only thing I'm brave enough to do is a sausage (frankfurter) and chorizo jambalaya, there's no uncooked meat so no chance of poisoning myself 😂

Uncooked meat is my worst fear but will probably do the harder meals when I’m nearer the car this winter. I only did the Schnitzel because I’m very familiar with the hill I camped on in this video. I will probably try and make more meals at home before attempting them on camping trips. ATB Gaz

Well done Gaz. Some effort making a schnitzel on the Lawers 👍🏼. You’ll never catch me beating my meat on the mountains 🤣. 10/10 for the cooking tho Gaz. Very ambitious effort. I’d only cook beef on the mountain just because the risk of undercooking the meat. I did steak and poached duck egg on lawer summit camp.

@@GazTheExplorer I’m looking into liquid stoves like the whisperlite or Polaris for winter cooking on the mountains. I found the jet boil to struggle with Butane. I like cooking all the time even more so when I’m sat infront of my tent. Take care Gaz. Loving the new cooking side to the channel 👍🏼

Wow really enjoying these wild cooking Vlogs they are well entertaining and it brings out your fun side, don't give up you will get much more expert at this with experience. May I make a suggestion of steak and trimmings with garlic bread, it shouldn't take to long to fry up a steak if you do the food prep at home before then this should go really well with a wee bottle of Red! just sayin!. Another well known wild camper Bushman and Blue did a wild camp Steak dinner on one of his Vlogs and it turned out really good. I think there is going to be a nice late summer and warm autumn, so hopefully opportunities to do some more wild cooking's before the winter sets in🥩

Thanks for watching Allan, Hilleberg Soulo is still part of my tent list but it will feature again at some point this winter. I prefer the Soulo over the Southern Cross 1 but the Southern Cross 1 is a lot more lightweight and easier to pitch. Might do a comparison video on them one day. ATB Gaz.
