Heavy Pouring Rain Wild Camping! - Getting SOAKED In MISERABLE WEATHER While Out Camping And Hiking!

On this little adventure I set off from the Ben Ledi Car park to climb Ben Ledi and camp on its slopes once again.
The hike was clear and good to begin with but as I quickly gained height it got much colder and the visibility was extremely poor. I managed to pitch the tent up before any heavy rain came and although it was not frequent to begin with when it did rain it was HEAVY!
Throughout the night remained fairly changeable but from 1AM until I reached the car later on it was constant rain and heavy at times. Condensation was also a huge issue due to being in the cloud the entire time. I packed up earlier than planned due to the forecast getting worse. The descent was wet and as you'll see, by the end of the video my waterproofs were soaked right through. Overall a good trip away!

Hi Folks, Unfortunately this will be my last video for a while. I’m unwell with COVID and that combined with my history of Asthma could potentially slow down the recovery a little.. Hopefully I’m wrong though. I was really enjoying making the youtube videos again! If anyone has had covid and is happy to share in the comments then let me know how long it took for you to recover. Anyway, enjoy the video it’s a long one!

Thanks Kevin, I was not really motivated to do this trip that day. It was the Comic relief film with Rylan Clark that motivated me to get out in the end. I knew it would be a hard trip but picking a mountain with an excellent path really helped. If I’m correct in saying Stob a’Choin is the mountain opposite Beinn Tulaichean. It looked an impressive mountain when I first saw it. Hope you and Robin get better weather for your next trip. Although bad weather is sometime good you can’t really beat a summit camp with sunsets and sunrises. As for covid, my Dad tested positive in July last year too. It took him 14 days to finally get a negative test. I’m hoping to get out again in the next two weeks but will need to play it by ear. Thanks for sharing your experience with covid mate. ATB Gaz

Nice not to have to carry in a ton of water. I did a coastal camp last week and was cooking from fresh, rather than my usual dehydrated dinner. I took in FOUR LITRES of water - and used the lot! My favourite Wayfayrer was Fruit Pudding in a Butterscotch Sauce. Sadly long discontinued... :(

I think I should have a go at making my own meals for camping. I’m sure it would make for interesting and entertaining content because I’m terrible at making meals. Still if Wandering Where can make good meals while he is car camping then I’m sure I’ll be good at it. Definitely the best part of making dehydrated meals is the lightweight side of it and how easy it is too. I will say the Wayfayrer desserts are good. Atb Gaz

@GazTheExplorer Жыл бұрын
The Southern Cross 1/2 is a good option if you’re not worried about space inside a tent. I agree with Paul Messner that something like a Nallo 2 is great for space in the winter months. Anyway, the main reason why I bought the Southern across 1 is for its strength while also being lightweight and simple to pitch. The inner design is not great but the outer fly is a brilliant design. I could type all night so I might talk about the tent in more detail in my next video. ATB Gaz

Hi Gaz. I’m thinking about getting a Southern Cross. You haven’t used the tent since this video and I wanted to hear your thoughts on it. How does it compare to your other tents? Do you prefer it over the soulo? Any feedback appreciated.
@GazTheExplorer
@GazTheExplorer 7 ай бұрын
The Southern Cross 1 is ideal in the winter and strong enough for most of the conditions I face in Scotland. From my experience the tent does let snow under the flysheet into the vestibule area. The main reason I’ve went back to Hilleberg recently is I prefer the inner design inside a Hilleberg tent. The Southern Cross 1 inner sags too much and the bathtub floor is not high enough in my opinion for dealing with any potential puddles forming. I also find the inner a little bit narrow too. If the weather is more settled in winter I usually take the Southern Cross 1 because it’s not too heavy but if there is any rain or wind forecasted then I usually take the Soulo or Nallo since I’ll spend more my time inside the inner. My conclusion is the Outer of the Southern Cross 1 is good but the inner of the tent needs massive improvement. I’m much more comfortable in a Hilleberg anyway. Hope I’ve helped. ATB Gaz
@mulreid
@mulreid 7 ай бұрын
@@GazTheExplorer Thanks for coming back to me. I may ring Terra Nova and see if they are planning to do anything about the inner. I have seen people do some mods to make the flysheet open wider using magnets. Cheers for the information. I really like the look of the tent due to the low 4 season weight and the small footprint.
