Another lovely adventure to share from my back patio. I grew up in eastern KY and now live in Knoxville, TN. Luke, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little cake for breakfast, and if it is reminiscent of cornbread, just that much more delicious. Growing up in Appalachia, cornbread and biscuits were our definition of bread. Be safe.

Here's a laugh for you. My husband's relatives came over to Canada. They went out camping for 5 days. Just to see how roughing was like in the wilderness. When they came back to our house they told us they had lobster tails, tenderloin steaks, wine etc. They had a great time roughing it. Guess it'll be a good story when they return home 😂 Good video Luke. Thanks so much.

Raising children at my age(63)has been a joy for me. I’m a grandmother alone raising grandchildren. Whatever situation, you just step up and do what you have to do to care for your family. We never know how life can change for us, but we keep living, giving of ourselves to the betterment of others. And yes, we do camp, grandmama getting them into the great outdoors. I thought about Abraham and Jacob in the Bible as you mentioned your brother-in-law and thought about how much more patience they had as they grew older and were able to give more in some ways than when they were younger. My grandchildren are the delight of my life! On Saturday’s after Band practice, and football band practice, Academic Team work, Beta Club, etc. all week, we enjoy watching your videos and just chill with you camping in the rain! We love your rain vids!

I'm not a people person either. That's why I love camping. Especially when you're out in the middle of nowhere. I have a portable solar panel, so if I need to charge something, I can, tho it does take forever. It's just a wee thing, backpack sized. But it works. Thanks for sharing all your adventures. I had to laugh over that comment too. Some ppl can be pretty judgemental. But I try not to let it bug me. 👍 Positive thinking, right?

I absolutely love giving myself permission to sit still and be quiet. I used to do that in my hunting days. Taught my kids to do it. We used to play a game of sitting quietly and identifying every sound. They loved it when they were little girls and do it with their kids too. It’s okay to be still and listen. I like thunderstorms too, except for the one where lightning struck a pine tree in a neighbor's back yard and then jumped to our next-door neighbor's gas meter, ran up the gas line and into her house and blew up her gas water heater and set her house on fire!!! All turned out well for her and she got a whole newly rebuilt front of their living area. She is in her 90s, but rallied because of the kindness of a couple of other neighbors. It seemed to take forever for the repairs, but the repairs are better than the original. My prayers now contain, not only a plea to keep us safe from tornadoes and hail, but from lightning strikes. The strike blasted a lot of the bark from the path of the lightning, all over our own back yard! I collected it and still have it to show anyone who might have needed it for an inspection as to what happened. The pine tree didn't even die, but we can see the path the lightning bolt took until it reached the gas meter it jumped to. It looks like the tree survived the strike--amazing, but it did get struck in a tropical T-storm and perhaps the rain saved it from burning up. I still love to watch the rain.

When I was 11, my step-dad packed my Mom and I up, and we took off from WI pulling a simple pop-up camper. We took 2 weeks traveling the WY Rocky Mts. It was my first ever camping. Every evening we set up in a rain squall. Every morning the rain returned for a good hour. Knowing no different, I thought that this was the way camping was supposed to be! To this day, it isn't camping without some sprinkles!

I always wonder why the tent isn't fully under the tarp. I know that sometimes you want to be sure it's waterproof or to maximize the free room for camping life. Me, I'd want max protection from the weather. You just described your night, dang, be under the tarp so you could have opened the door for ventilation and not gotten wet. Love your videos.

I live in a Canada city that takes pride in having walking and biking paths threw the woods. You can actually travel threw to different parts of the city threw these trails! Unfortunately this homeless group keep taking them over! They are mentally unstable or on drugs! A man donated and transformed a building into a apartment complex for the group! They destroyed it in a year! They stripped the walls of copper pipes and sold them for drugs! Because of freedom policies like the USA they can’t do anything with them! The building was shut down because they destroyed it so bad! I loved hiking and biking those trails! You could stealth camp! Society has to change! They need to put somewhere so there not destroying our city!

I like to go out onto our covered patio, or our carport (preferred) and just watch the rain, drinking in the fresh scent of the rain. There is enough shelter on the carport to protect me from wind-driven rain. Because of health constraints, I cannot actually go camping as I would need to be in a cabin of some sort and now, I am on medications that prohibit me from being in the sun. I'm all right with that because I'm old (77) and I get so much satisfaction out of seeing good camping videos. Thanks for taking us with you, Luke and Susie.🥰🥰

Just a quick comment on knots, be careful how you tie off a line when it may get wet. Many fibers, particularly natural fibers ,will swell when they get wet making the knots very difficult, if not impossible to untie especially when under tension.

Luke, how do you decide what gear to bring? Have you ever camped with all your favorite gear in one episode?

Six minutes into the video, you are making some great points. It is basically why I am totally against ultralight backpacking. By its very design, they are inviting UNPREPAREDNESS as an ultralight backpacker. They are leaving behind things that they might truly NEED... if certain unforeseen situations happen. These guys that hike into the wilderness with 15 pound backpacks are inherently UNPREPARED. Now, they might still do okay. Which is great and they can make videos of just how light their pack is. But the reality IS... that they might also end up on the news..... as a missing hiker.

About 21 minutes in, the use of a tarp really shows people the value. Your tent is nearby, and the tarp is a perfect shaded area of relaxation for you. I do not think tarps are EVER a replacement for a tent. I just don't see that. But Lordy how valuable they CAN be for a whole lot other things. For instance, and this might not come instinctively to some viewers;-- but withOUT that tarp? You're gonna be IN that bivy when it rains. Mighty small area, easily bored, perhaps not ready to sleep, and truly inconvenienced by the rain...maybe for HOURS. But WITH that tarp? You have another area to sit in, protected from wind and rain, and now you are totally enjoying the moment. That is what makes bringing that tarp so worth it. Also, if the storm moving in.... is really gonna be tough? Build the tent UNDER the tarp. Always an option, rarely needed; but it is sometimes needed. Goes back to preparedness. Great points you made and you are King of the Woods, dude.

Thought the gear list was wrong, Winterial instead of Mountainsmith tent, no biggie. You're pretty stingy with that moisture, could send some out my way in NM as it was 90F and bone dry here. I guess you were testing the tent, no reason not to have under the tarp. Great video and filming as always, thanks for the work. See ya soon.

Hi Luke and Susie. I was wanting to start a camping video, but not sure what kind ok camera to start with. I don’t know if the new smartphone is the way, or I do have a go-pro. I live in Colorful Colorado and I’m surrounded by beautiful scenery. What would you recommend for a beginner? Thank you and love all your helpful videos of gear review and camping. 🧡🎃

"TOGR idea of glamping"😆 My late husband had zero desire to camp with me because I sleep in a tent...on the ground lol. He once told me that his idea of roughing it was a Holiday Inn. Opposites really do attract lol

Laughing about being tired as a parent? I'm a single, full-time dad and have raised my daughter on my own since the day she was born. I was never tired. I never bitched about it. I worked, I raised my kid, and I made life fun. My daughter is my absolute best friend
