The play at the end of the frame isn’t an issue. Accuracy is more related to the barrel and slide lock up, and the actual frame rails. This model is super accurate.

I have this pistol (which I love) and you can feel the bullets screaming out of this thing faster than my compact pistols. I do also however own the p10s from CZ, that's by far the best striker fired trigger on the market and on part with my 229 Legion trigger in terms of the crispness of the break and short reset, it's phenomenal. I do love my PDP though and I'm glad I got the compact 5" because I can still conceal it and have the benefit of that added velocity. Also in terms of accuracy, this thing is on par with some of the best out there and is far more accurate than I can ever hope to be.

I appreciate your close-ups of the guns, so much. So many channels fail at that very important aspect of a gun review. I've been interested in this model; but was hesitant because of the looks, and the fact that I have too many polymer 9mm pistols. You have proven me wrong about the looks. That pistol is quite handsome. If I take the plunge, perhaps Walther will convince me that there is no such thing as having too many polymer 9mm pistols?

I'm eagerly awaiting the shooting video for this firearm. We have some archaic gun laws up here in Canada and so I just recently became able to use and purchase handguns. I was lucky enough to purchase the 5" compact PDP for my first handgun. Ammo being what it is right now I have been using Sellier & Bellot 115 gr with absolutely zero issues. I'll be interested to see how some of the other ones fare. Always enjoy your video's

Absolutely love the ergonomics of the PDP. It fits in my hand like a CZ and has a trigger that puts most aftermarket Glock triggers to shame. I just saw this model online for $489! Great price especially being optics ready. I have the PPQ with the 5” barrel. I have never experienced any excessive muzzle rise or high bore axis related performance issues with my PPQ. Follow up shots are always on par compared to my G34. Also I have larger hands and the texture on these Walther’s works well for me.

I’ve got a [4”] PPQ M2 and love it! I’d like to get into the RDO game, making me very interested in the PDP. I’d want to use my existing PPQ mags, (making them pull double duty, as they’re stupid expensive), so that means I’d go with a PDP Compact. I don’t want the same exact profile as the PPQ, (idk why), but this rules the 4” out. I recently handled the 5” Compact, and the 5” slide felt a little too long, especially with the shorter Compact grip. So, I’m hoping Walther will come out with the “Goldilocks”, a 4.5” Compact PDP. It’s not currently on their website, but as you demonstrated, you can absolutely put a 4.5” slide on a Compact frame... so here’s to hoping that Walther will make the “Goldilocks” PDP a reality!!!

Like the PDP vs. the PPQ when you put them side by side on the table. The PPQ grip speaks to me but the profile of the PDP gets me. PDP for the win. Good content, sir.

I just built a Polymer80 that has a G19 lower, and a G17 upper. Instead of the 19X they should have released this setup. You might lose 2 rounds, but get the benefit of the longer slide. Walther knocks it out of the park.....as always.....and these are no exception! Looking forward to some lead slinging Graham 😁

I have a 4.5 full size and I noticed this significant slide to frame play which impacts the zeroing of my rail attached laser with a laser bore sight. Imagine the gun laser is attached to the frame and the bore sight moves left to right freely... I messaged Walther customer service and they say it sounds normal. I think the reason they allow this much play is that this is a duty gun. It should work under very tough situation, dirt, mud, etc. Good play reduces malfunction I guess. It shouldn't impact accuracy too much because accuracy comes mostly from the slide itself. The sight is on the slide, the barrel is "with" the slide.

If recoil springs are the same for the 3 different barrel/slide lengths? How are the cases extracted, what distances are the cases landing from you the shooter 4"___, 4.5"___, 5"___. ? Thank you Graham for not mentioning the schlock brand in your comparison. This was excellent comparing the 3 different PDP's.👍

I haven't bothered to measure, but ejection is also ammo dependent. You can see it in our shoiting impressions videos during the What's For Dinner Tests. Toss an optic on top and you'll get a different pattern as well. It's a factor of how rapidly the slide is traveling; a result from recoil energy and slide weight.

I was hoping you were going to try a few more mix and matches of the slides and frames . . . :-) I have a 4" PPQ which I purchased just as Walther was transitioning to the PDP. I know the PDP is supposed to be ever so slightly better internally than a PPQ, but visually I like the more tapered look of the Q's slide than the blockier P's. So I had started to look for a 5" Q, but they are very scarce on the used market compared to the Q5 match variations. (I looked real hard at a low end Q5, but I do not like the rear blacked out/fiber optic front sights; I do like the 3 dot sights on my 4" Q. (Ok, I could replace the Q5's for another $100+ on top of the Q5's $950; compared to the 5" P's $650 with 3 dots.)) I also don't think that I'd ever want to put a red dot/reflex sight on a pistol, though the Canic and P would maintain that option at no additional cost. I like the 5" length for the reasons you indicated; increased sight radius and muzzle velocity. So, my choices seem to be to go to a Canic (and save a few $) or a PDP 5" compact; so I'd have the same mags/holster compatibility with my 4" Q. (A few $ there, comparing to having to buy new for the Canic.) So there is that. Geek-wise, I was surprised with the P's full picatinny rail. I find that extending that in conjunction with the small Olight I utilize will cause a very pronounced upper shadow in the illumination pattern. There would also be slightly more weight out front compared to utilizing a slightly longer recoil spring dust cover with a shorter rail. I was thinking that a compact short frame with a 5" slide would be pretty neat. (As I said, I was hoping that you would try that combination. Perhaps the existing dust cover would be adequated as is. (?)) Since you have now worked through the Canics, which option/path might you choose?

The APX series is really underrated and overlooked, especially for the price they’re going for....
@injuredoutdoorsman9011
@injuredoutdoorsman9011 3 жыл бұрын
@Ben Woodcock the Walther has by far a better trigger and ergonomics, but costs almost 2x as much as the Beretta. What you said about the APX being more rugged, bc it was made for the military trials, I believe is incorrect. They are equally as well made; look at the tack record of both these companies, German engineering & Italian craftsmanship... the PDP is made specifically as a duty pistol.
@injuredoutdoorsman9011
@injuredoutdoorsman9011 3 жыл бұрын
@Ben Woodcock Walther shares on their social media whenever an agency picks one of their guns for standard agency wide usage, but I personally know of several departments that have the PPQ & other Walthers on their list of approved duty guns, if the officer doesn’t want to run the standardized issued pistol. I worked for two departments that allowed us to carry personal approved pistols instead of the issued one, so long as we bought the approved holster and magazine pouches that matched retention standards, and the rest of our duty belt (for example black leather weave). Some people just shoot better with some guns than others: I qualified with classic Sigs & Glocks in the high 90s every time, but when I was issued one of the first, original M&P45s, I failed to qualify several times with it....
@injuredoutdoorsman9011
@injuredoutdoorsman9011 3 жыл бұрын
@Ben Woodcock It depends on the department, usually the bigger the agency, the stricter the policies and procedures, whereas the smaller agencies don’t necessarily have those strict regulations. Think of Walmart vs a mom and pop 10 employee business. Walmart is going to have a lot stricter rules and regulations to manage the million employees they have across the country, whereas the owners of the mom and pop companies have more direct contact with all their employees, and don’t necessarily have to have a list/booklet of rules, policies and procedures...
@injuredoutdoorsman9011
@injuredoutdoorsman9011 3 жыл бұрын
@Ben Woodcock totally depends on regulations, policies and procedures in place. Beyond that, it depends upon the budget, the firearms instructors, the brass (& if they listen to the firearms instructors...). For those agencies who allow officers carry other firearms than the issued ones, they’re personally owned by the officers who carry them, so budget doesn’t necessarily play a role in departments that allow other approved guns...

Because they're German I'm betting a lot of science and study goes into them.
