Some people really say titanium has a certain feel to the bike and that it is superiors riding experience then all other materials..... I don't know how to speak on that but there is something special about this bike, it is NOTICABLY more comfortable then a lot of the other bikes i ride but at the same does not lack the performance I thought it would compared to the high end aero bikes. Maybe its the dropped seat stays on the titanium for the added comfort or the internal cables ink the cockpit that added the extra aero to the bike but, I think this is my favorite go to bike right now, I will be riding this on A1A for a while.... Call it what you want but I would be extremely happy if I made the purchase on a bike like this just with the overall ride, checks all the boxes on how I would want a bike to perform and it is something different then what everyone else has and gives you some character to the bike your riding which I love :)..... stay tuned where I am going to take a blow torch to it to add some colors to it 😮😮😮

I ride Ti bikes and ai think the comfort thing is a bit of nonsense. If its well made it should be stronger than carbon and easier to see if there is damage, they also suit mounts/fittings for touring better and heavish loads. I built my falath evo this year and was surprised that its pretty much as comfortable as my Ti touring bike

Steel and Ti bikes absorb vibrations better than carbon, that is what you are feeling. Not being bounced up and down and rattled by your bike, enjoy.
@willspower3

@@thomasullmann7447 Probably more of an indictment of the Elves, Venge, and Winspace having awful compliance due to chunky aero seat posts rather than any inherent advantage in Ti. Ti having special comfort qualities is a false narrative, and unneeded. It's a great material for bike frames for other reasons that are actually valid.
@thomasullmann7447
@thomasullmann7447 Жыл бұрын
@@willspower3 Well Id say the difference between the two in terms of comfort is minimal, and given the different wheel sets and tyres I cant say the frame even has played a role in my experience. The main type of cycling I have done over the past 13 years has been riding with a tent and guitar, living in rain, snow and sun and going across various countries, some days up to 400km. When Ive arrived in cities I wanted to have a bike that is nimble and mobile. I've also wanted a bike that doesn't rust, is robust along the x y z axis, and that can hold a decent weight on the seatstays. Since my Armenia adventure setup (the background picture in my youtube profile) Ive built a dropbar Ti bike for added performance/positioning. Ti frames are great for various reasons that I think are underplayed with too much focus on the comfort issue which is more likely to come with seatpost material/shape and geometry.

I was riding by Venice CA and unfortunately got a puncture that took forever to seal. I pulled into a shop called Luft to just ask for some air so I could get home. Thanks, GC, and I think you have articulated what a lot of us are thinking, why pay 15-grand on a latest-and-greatest carbon bike which, as we see with designs and trends, will look like a dated bicycle before long and will not last as long as a frame in metal such as titanium. So I am all for a gorgeous titanium bike such as this, something to be enjoyed for years and then, perhaps, by a family member or someone who appreciates timeless bike tech and design.

I bought a Litespeed Ti bike in 2017 , all carbon parts. Sram Red. I sold the Felt and Cervello carbon bikes. Yes, the Ti litespeed is a bit slower than the Cervello R3 however the ride feel and lifetime durability outweighs everything else. The “cool” factor is another perk.. I’d go with Litespeed bikes. As an engineer I can say titanium is a very hard substance to work with. Litespeed has decades of experience with Ti dating back to the Lunar lander.

Love this bike! I’ve had Ti bikes in the past, Merlin road frame and a Lightspeed Mtn hardtail. You’re right to say Ti bikes don’t necessarily give you the performance of other materials, particularly Carbon Aero bikes, but what they do give you is a “magic” ride feel that is comfy, relatively light and very subtle road feel. Maybe not the best climbers in the world because of the sort of soft compliance (flex) but it is an all-day-ride comfort. The thing I loved most about having a ti bike is it’s durability, low maintenance, doesn’t corrode or scar like other frame materials, so you don’t really have to worry about little everyday scratches and nicks like you would a painted frame and just the exclusive feeling of having a (Simi) exclusive material between your legs. It’s a material that can literally last your lifetime and beyond. The aesthetics of this particular brand is awesome, especially for the price. Bringing modern tech like internal cable routing, slick graphics, dropped chain stays and mad flexibility in tire sizes is not something you see everyday in a disc wheeled Tianium bike these days. BIG 👍🏽 for Blackheart for bringing it the masses!

if you haven't taken the torch to the frame yet you might want to ask the engineers at black heat what they think about the idea the heat could change the structural integrity of the titanium. I am not a metallurgist but it's better to ask one before than after

That bike is really good looking. They did a great job. A touch chonky and of course no aero tubing, but I’ll bed that cockpit makes up for it. The welds are so clean and the raw titanium is badass. Wonder what it would weigh with Ultegra or DA. You should test a spare piece of titanium from them before you put any flames to that thing!

It's almost selection bias imo. He shits on the bikes because people bring shit bikes to him to fix. On the other hand, he gives glowing reviews to Look and Time frames, which I have seen other people praise as well, so I guess he shits on bikes that are manufactured poorly and praise bikes that are well made. I have seen enough from him and other reviewers to trust what he says on the manufacturing quality.

The 31.6 mm seatpost is an odd and outdated choice IMO. For a non-aero bike, 27.2 mm is a better choice both for weight savings and compliance. My 2015 Litespeed Ti Gravel also came with a 31.6 seatpost. Luckily the seatpost reducer from Problem Solver, allowed me to switch to a 27.2 seatpost.

I was checking out this brand and was definitely interested because of the UDH compatibility. I think if you could get a frameset for a bit under 3000, I would pick one up as a "bike for life". I think (for me) an ideal bike from them for me would be something inbetween the road ti and the all road ti as far as geometry goes, with the dropped stays of the road as well as the full cable integration, while having some extra mounting bolts and a little more tire clearance like 42mm. I'm also looking forward to more 3d printed titanium integration in ti bikes as they will allow for aero shapes in the head tube etc like a Falkenjagd Aristos R Gravel bike.

I love Ti bikes, hate 1x drivetrain. I am 70 and cannot get up the 20% grades like I used to. For me a 1x does not have a high enough top gear, and not low enough low gear, 1x is great on the flats though. I purchased my Ti bike from Walty in China, welds are perfect, got the same geometry as my 71 PX10. I have ridden modern aluminium frames, most of them broke. With the exception of the Conondale Slice, they all sucked compared to the PX10.

Yea I know. I’m still getting use to the lower pressure. I just don’t like the squish. I have now gone down to 85 psi or 80 but that’s it

@GCPerformance18 that sounds more like it 😊 I know what you mean it feels odd at first after rock hard 25mm but all the tests I've seen say that you don't loose any speed but gain more comfort, what's not to love 😉

Not using a Ti fork is a strange choice. The fork has as much if not more impact on the ride quality even than the fork. I have a Ti fork that has a fantastic ride, even though i dont have a Ti bike (yet)

There's an advantage to having internal cabling on Ti frames, less holes means less likely to crack. Titanium can be prone to cracks at stress points and is relatively common around holes put in the frame. Any intense heating of points of the frame, such as welding, increases the brittleness of the metal. That all said, for my touring bike I'm glad its external cabling so as to work on whilst on the road. I've toured on Ti for nearly 15 years, across battered roads in Ukraine, Balkans,Georgia etc. My dearest frame ended up being cracked after I was hit by a car, though my ankle was cracked too :/

Thanks for the feedback. Any routing holes in our bikes are reinforced with a welded plate. We haven't had any issues with our Ti frames, but offer a lifetime warranty for the original owner just in case.

Working with Ti is a real skill, I think it is likely unestimated the difference between a quality Ti frame and a poor one given how important the welding is. I certainly don't get the impression that your frames are being rushed, they look pretty amazing!@@blackheartbikeco I still think that it is nevertheless a good thing if routing holes are minimised as every weld has its risks. That said, personally my only cracked Ti frame was from being hit, the only other frame I've had crack on me was a 90's steel frame. Every material has potential weaknesses. Enjoy your bike building and riding, I have no doubt that what you are making is of real quality.

I seen a review where a 1970's bike was put up against a new carbon bike and they came in 45 seconds faster, just get an aluminum bike you will be fine.

How does this brand compare to Lynskey?? @GC Performance
@GCPerformance18

I have not rode that brand. But this brand literally has all the traits of a modern bike, internal cables, 1 piece bar and stem, t47bb, dropped seat stays and had the comfort of titanium. It’s a bike that could be the Sunday cruiser bike or really hold its own in a fast pace group ride. It’s a blast

Bike is wheels and groupset. Frame is just a stick that holds all together. Doesn't matter If It is made from carbon, bamboo or dog's shit. As long as It holds everything in 1 place, It is good. The only difference between frames when It comes to the price is weight and I figured It out when riding different bikes and different parts over many years.
@festerofest4374
@festerofest4374 Жыл бұрын
What? I couldn't disagree more. The geometry, design and how the materials are used around the frame COMPLETLEY dictate the ride feel and handling. The groupset has nothing to do with and the wheels, unless your're comparing low-end vs high-end there's not a ton of difference there. The frame creates most of the ride feel and there are HUGE differences.

I have always thought about ti being potentially the ultimate 'forever bike' if you took the time to get a quality, perhaps custom build and spec the bike out with quality components. Given that you would be sacrificing chasing the latest 'fad' and with carbon, but for the vast majority of riders (who are not chasing the last 1%) chasing the fads only benefits the vendors who are selling them.

The only issue with titanium bikes is that they are noticeably less comfortable than carbon ones, carbon can be made so crazily flexible with UD carbon in the upper half of frame it's insane, like a suspension, while still being much stiffer than titanium in the lower half of frame. Also it's even lighter at the same time, and much less prone to thermal expansion and therefore changes in density, carbon simply lasts longer. And titanium is not even cheaper lol! It can even cost a bit more

no lie I think with this new dropped seat stays like I mentioned before this bike was a dream to ride compared to my heavily aero bikes i am use to riding and i foyu know anything baout aero bikes, it is that the vertical compliancy of those bikes are shit and very stiff so this bike Like i said in the video was a super nice ride compared to what I was riding before, and I have to think its the seat stays that helped it out
