GDB500 - Thin G-Shock wants you to take more steps

A review of the new G-Shock GDB500 released in April 2024. The GDB500 is a new shape, thin G-Shock with smaller dimensions. It has a thickness of 11mm and a width of 41.5mm. It comes equipped with Bluetooth and a 3 axis accelerometer which will count your steps. The initial models released are GD-B500S-3 (Lime green), GD-B500-7 (white), GD-B500-1 (black) and GD-B500S-8 (light grey).

Once you had a MIP you really don't want to go back to simple negative displays. This with MIP would be a banger. Don't understand why Casio doesn't make these more standard.

I disagree personally. Why doesn't a single MIP display have hourly charm? Weird. Why do I have to depress the buttons to get the action on the display, as opposed to regular displays. As soon as you press the button the display responds. Both petty gripes I'd admit, but I'm crazy. No hourly charm (aka SIG) is a deal breaker for me. But I love how those MIP displays look, it is really a shame.

In what markets is the non inverted display gdb200 available in?

GBD 200 has a Memory In Pixel (MIP) display which is only in a negative format currently.

Yup, the MIP display is only available in the negative display. But that negative MIP display is actually much better than a normal positive display. My GBX-100 is much more legible than any of my positive display G-Shock squares, in any lighting condition.

Interesting, so it is a cheaper successor/alternative to the GBD-200 (thank you for comparing it). Imho: GBD 500 isn´t aswesome at all. Reason: Display. This model could have used the MIP display. Side by side the GBD 200 is absolutely superior.

The GBD200 is indeed the better watch. The GDB500 may suit those looking for a smaller form watch with step tracking plus at a lower cost.

If there was one with normal display, or a dot non inverted one. These have poor readability except for the green one.

The GDB500S-8 has a positive display, but there is a mirror effect over it.
