Don't forget to look at the float. I've found forks/ broken glass keeping that float in the "water full" position. Resulting in complete cycles with zero water in unit.

Not sure I understand. The float will keep water going into the basin until it reaches a certain level. If the water is slow it will continue to fill until it reaches that level. So was your diagnosis that the valve was failing completely and no water was coming into the dishwasher?

Dont forget to ask if anyone is watching the children as it sounds as if they were left with you to supervise and a ton of reconstruction is being done by children....back in my day...we were not to disturb or annoy or distract the repairman while they were working at repairing our electrical appliances. It is considered common courtesy to be quiet if you have a toddler 18 months to 3 years old they can understand quiet time or to read with them or show them this man has come to fix something broken we must be so quiet because it is dangerous, so we must use our quiet time or in the case of infants simply move the activities to their bedroom or go on the patio or out back and play pattycake or here is a novel idea. Schedule repairs during nap time. And btw...dont bother giving me any negative comments about thats not how raising kids works or obviously you dont have children comments...ive had 6 and when they were infants and fussy i left restaurants the moment they acted up, why should i subject diners to listen to my baby being fussy. Also, when they were toddlers i had games and activities to keep them busy even emergency really cool things like slim and fingerpaints and sequins and busy boards i made myself. I had a water table for the babies to pour water into spinning wheels and funnels. We made playdough and we made squishy plastic bags with paint and glitter inside...we did alot of really interesting things...if your toddler is getting into everything or screaming loudly then you are not doing your job...they need stimulation. Their brain is learning new things at such a rapid rate a computer couldnt keep up. And i had every one of my kids 2 yrs apart only one in diapers throughout 6 kids.,potty trained before next baby got here..potty trained and weaned..i breast fed every single one of them. And yes,,i am exhausted.
