GE front loader washer broken SOLVED. Door lock broken

Our front loader door won't open and won't go into service mode. I show the symptoms. Replacing the door lock fixed it.

I'm glad to see that you were able to fix the issue on your washer all the way back then! I'm sure it stayed reliable for many more years afterwards... Our 2003 top loader still runs to this day, but it's age shows. It sprung a leak not too long ago and my father has been trying to fix it although he hasn't had the time to. Our GE 2003 Front Loader dryer broke down like 8 years ago so it's it's a miracle we still have the 2003 top loader with us. Unfortunately though I believe it's on it's way out as it seems to be starting to make a horrible racket and squeaking noises as it goes into the spin cycle. It sound like as if it may blow up anytime and I get worried. (Edit: I just realized it's not from General Electric: it's from *Frigidaire.)*

Yup this machine worked well after this. I think we ended up selling it during a move. We've now moved onto a washer dryer combo lg which is insanely nice. When the warranty is up though I'll maybe be making repair videos of it also.

I had this problem as well. It turned out to be my drain pump and the door was locked because of this. You need to remove the bottom panel and locate the manual release for the door. It’s located to the right of the drain pump and just below where the lock is. It’s a black plastic loop. Pull on it to open.

I just had a similar problem with my Ge model WCVH4800K2WW front load washer. It was making the noise first heard in the video and would do nothing else. By placing your hand near the door lock you can feel the lock trying to activate. I removed the door lock and took the lock apart by lifting up on the tabs. Once apart I remove the contacts and l put a little lubrication on the moving parts ( be careful not to put too much ). I reassembled the switch and installed. The washer is now working. A little time and lubrication saved me a few dollars on a new door lock switch.

THANKS! My washer was having the same problem. Based on your video, I started taking apart the front end of the washer. When I started removing the door unit, I noticed the lock wires came undone from the door lock mechanism. Plugging it back in fix this problem, but in removing the locked door I dislodged the rubber seal and had to remove it and reinstall the seal so that the washer would not leak water. All is back in order. This video was a huge help.

I'm not sure if our problem was the same but it had the same symptoms. (Locked door, not washing) My solution was to go into the maintenance manual and what I did, was I unplugged and replugged-in the control panel. (Turns out I also had some stuff not plugged in from when we took it apart) Then I ran the signal-delay X2 and reset the programming. (reprogrammed) by selecting the kind of version it needs to be. Then the door unlocked as needed and the washing cycle worked. In other words, before you go replacing the lock as this video suggests, try unplugging the machine, taking apart the top and unplugging the control panel, then re-plugging it. The choose the appropriate software per your model as listed in the manual taped on the inside. Exit test mode and run.

That's awesome if that worked for you. So your'e unplugging the control panel on top then plugging the machine back in with the control panel un plugged? Then once it's on plug in the control panel and it will prompt for your model?

The sound from the front of the door is the lock trying to release. If you push and hold the door while it's doing that it will generally release....mine has been doing that for several years. The louder sound from the bottom is the pump trying to empty the washer, but dry. Not good for the pump motor I'm sure. Don't know why it's thinking there is water in there, probably a sensor bad is my guess, but just a guess... That's where I'd start looking anyway...

Yes this. Simply holding the door closed tighter when it's attempting to release the lock worked for me.

We had the same issue. Pulled the bottom panel and drained all the water in the drain pump. When all the water was drained we took out the filter and and cleaned it. The filter was clogged. We cleaned the filter, put it back in and put the bottom panel back on. Washer door opened and starting working again. Hope this helps.

I have exactly the same problem "It’s a black plastic loop. Pull on it to open". I did that get the door open. I replace the door lock, but the problem is remaining exactly same thing. I thought the pump, I fill up with water turn on and the pump work great. Can't figure out what is wrong with this issue.

Try to clean filter on bottom they’res small door latch take off just pull out it comes out then there’s other little plastic cover pull out too there should be filter twisted n clean it it should gets clog also when u take filter some water might come out so maybe put tray or towel this fixed my washer

I ended up unplugging it for 10 minutes (should wait at least 5 minutes to allow the machine to reset) and that is what allowed it to unlock and let me program it to another cycle to finish draining 😑
