I just heard GE QUIT offering the extended 3yr warranty on this model. One would assume because they have a high fail rate. Please see if you can confirm this info. Thanks for the content as always

I really love my circuit board free dump find washer and dryer. All parts available and surprisingly cheap compared to what I thought like the lint basket, center support bushing and belt tensioner pulley which I replaced with one from a snowblower as I needed it immediately.

I’m here on this video because I’ve just suffered Mine failing. I’ve owned my washer for about 7 months. Getting error 23 which is a door lock failure. When trying to start the cycle it locks then unlocks itself. I just had the warranty tech come out and look to tell me it’s the door lock. I don’t know why they don’t just order the part when I tell them exactly what is wrong before they show up to tell me what’s wrong. But hey I’m not the company doing it so I’m forced to not have a washing machine while they do their job. But depending on what they say the time frame is on a part I’ll probably just do it myself. I’m very mechanically sound for things like this so it doesn’t phase me to do the job myself

Question for owners who have had this since Aug/Sept of 2023. Our machine seems to be very loud when it starts to draw the water. Is everyone else’s loud? Also, we ended up taking it off the pedestal because it’s swayed a lot. Anyone else experience this and do the same? Did you build or buy a sturdier pedestal for it? TIA

Was hoping for some help woth a question i have about the drum and the gasket. I was curious if there is supposed to be any felt like material between the edge of the drum and the gasket itself? I only ask because i had to recently have my brand new machine replaced and upon looking at my new machine there is no material there whatsoever and i swear my previous machine did have something there because i specifically remember thinking it may have been lint or something stuck between the edge of the drum and the gasket but when i tried cleaning it out it looked as if the machine was made this way? Please if you cojld help me with this question that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and keep up the amazing video's!

Someday i hope i find someone as obsessed with me as Greg is with you lol. Kidding aside the wife and i are fascinated with this new GE Unit. Now that you have disassembled it and put it back together, do you predict there will be any significant design improvements or changes made by GE over the next couple of years? Thanks for preemptively making these videos!

@@Hellothere149able great question. I think one big improvement, and I'm going to make a video on this - is the filter that prevents lint from getting into the evap system. People are mentioning that lint is bypassing certain areas of the filter, and getting on the evap system. This needs modified, and there's a DIY way to modify it already to solve the issue. I think they'll HAVE to change that, or else you'll get "It wont dry clothes right" complaints in a few months. Other than that, I can't see more than minor revisions. Everything outside the heat pump system is just a GFW850 and that is actually a pretty mature platform by now, which is a good thing.

@@bensappliancesandjunk That's fantastic news! That lint getting past the filter on the front part was the one thing that kept popping up in videos, looking forward to your fix! I'm very rarely and early adopter of anything but this newfangled thing is pretty tempting. I'm a sucker for anything that's got enough modularity to replace parts in large chunks. There's a good chance it'll be in our shopping cart this black Friday.

Hey Ben I have a question. In your experience, are backside condenser coils, or the bottom condenser coils with the fan more reliable on a top freezer refrigerator. Please let me know, thanks! Love your channel btw.

Hey Ben, I have a Maytag Centennial top load washer. It’s showing an error code F7 E1. I can start a wash cycle and it washes all the way until it gets to the spin and stops. So then I have to cancel that cycle and turn the dial to spin and drain and it will spin and drain no problems. Do you have any ideas or recommendations on what would be causing it not to want to go into the spin cycle during it’s normal wash cycle. If you do, I would greatly appreciate it.

Truth. I only hand wash my clothes. I bring them down to the river and put them on boulders in the rushing water. While the water washes over the clothes, I hand scrub the clothes with soap I made from cow's milk. After 5 hours of doing this, I put all of my clothes on a wire I run from two oak trees. I then go inside. It's 4pm. I low out my candle and prepare for bed. I sleep. I wake up at 4am. I go outside to take my clothes down to begin folding. Unfortunately there was a murder of crows that defecates all over them. I sigh and take my clothes back up the river to start again.

It's really not. It's a GE front loader with a slightly tweaked refrigerator bolted to the top . Functionally, the washing machine part isn't doing anything different than it's always done other than the motor is going to have a lot more hours on it per load. GE is hopefully capable of understanding how a vapor cycle system works well enough to make the refrigeration part work at higher (but not extreme) temperature...it's basically a component sizing problem. If their front loaders are pretty good, and their basic refrigerators are pretty good, their combo unit should be pretty good. It's pretty clear this isn't built like a $200, slap a name your great grandma talked about being good on it, last for two years, piece of junk. It might actually end up lasting longer since there's going to be a whole lot less moisture floating around the unit when it's not being used.

@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk 11 ай бұрын
Hey, fantastic question. So here's the deal: According to GE, no. You can't. However, from what I see, everythings' there to do it EXCEPT for the fact the wiring has to go a bit further, and there's only enough room for it to open from the right. I think if you had some extra 14awg wiring, you probably could do it.

Hey Ben, I am really considering this GE combo unit, but I don't understand the math? If the heat pump busts, say at year 6, the replacement for the heat pump assembly looks to be like $1500+ from GE not including labor and a new holiday sale unit is about $2k. So what gives? Doesn't the risk there seem to be a real stretch? Especially since this unit doesn't have long term real world usability?
@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk 10 ай бұрын
IMHO, the real price of that assembly should drop precipitously as it gets closer to that 5-6yr mark. Something similar happened with GE control boards for their ultra-similar GFW-series washers. Initially, retail on those boards was $300-400 USD. However they were pretty common to have issues, to where they are now $150-200 from most retailers, rather affordable. Also, considering what can actually go wrong with that unit, I fully imagine it will be rather easy to just buy the components needed to do the swap for a fraction of the price if in case the entire assembly remains expensive. But again, in my opinion, it should drop by the time a replacement is needed. If not, 3rd parties could swoop in and offer a much cheaper system.

@@bensappliancesandjunk Thanks, that's a great point. Do you have any idea on the longevity of these heat pumps anyway based on your experience with other units or stand alone heat pumps? Also if you were in my shoes, would you be purchasing an extended warranty for this? Or how would you best look to insure your investment?

@bensappliancesandjunk

Not quite. Instead of waiting for things to fail, I took the whole thing apart and put it back together, filming all the various things to replace. I figured that I should put out at least 1 video right now on how to take the front off, and figured the door lock was probably the most likely thing to show case it. That or the pump.

@@richardbrant5728 Its really, really easy to just tear it down and put it back together 1-2 times, since you get access to all the parts. So for example in this video, its about the door lock. But in actuality, I took the inverter and drain pump off too when I shot all of this, because those 2 items are pretty frequently bad on the other GE units, so why not get those taken care of... Its not like taking the gasket/door/interface off will be any different on those videos, so making them is quite easy.

Mine did. “Door open” error. Lucky for me I have the bestbuy extended warranty. Unlucky for me: it took two weeks for the technician set a repair date, 1 weeks to confirm physically in my house and order the part that they could have ordered when I complained. 1 more week to double validate the board is on back order and they can’t get me one. I have now to wait 1 more week for the 15 days to pass so that the geeksquad technician can overwrite the repair process and let me order a new one for free. This is the second replacement. I used it just 4 times before the door open error. A bit frustrated with the experience.
