First 7 minutes of the video is what I needed, I would never have figured all of this out without breaking something so thank you. I am replacing the drain pump.

The top doesn't have to be removed and the door lock can stay also. You can get your hand behind the bellows and disconnect the door lock and also on the other side from behind the bellows. Just did my drain pump and control board so I know this machine better than I care to.

My GE front load washer had a leak around the seal -- but it really didn't! I never noticed the leaking when I was washing laundry, I would notice it later. And I would oddly find water in the drum. And if I left the door open I would find water on the floor. The water enters the drum along the upper inner edge of the opening. If the door is open it will run down the seal and out of the machine. The seal was not leaking in my washer. The water inlet valve -- where the hoses hook in -- was not closing absolutely fully after using the washer (It is a $25 part). You take off the top of the machine, unhook the electric wires that attach to the valve, and replace it.
