Thanks for posting was thinking about getting this for backpacking but after seeing the size of it packed and you talking about the weight I think I'm gonna look for something lighter and smaller.

I'm considering this as a replacement for a 2005 REI Half Dome 2, which weighs in at a little under 5lbs with a footprint. I'm a big dude at 6'6" and around 300lbs, so I need the biggest hammock I can, but if I'm getting it without any real reduction in weight or size, I don't know. I'd shave a few ounces, but once I start throwing things in like snakeskins and straps, and an underblanket, I might actually have more weight than my tent.
